CONTRADICTION ! The best way NOT to make a game : cute design with punitive mechanics EVERYWHERE : hidden main pathways from game start, strong enemies with 3 different mechanics on level one. I get the cryptic language choice, i think it is the best part of the game, with the art direction. Difficulty curve is why this game never blossomed to a larger audience (and never will) : Devs thoughts they were really bright. Elite. We are SO FAR WAY from why Nintendo is so good at making games.

Very peak game llike a zelda clone with souslike elemnts and very deep lore
Bastante entretenido y atrapante 8.5/10
This game is great! I can't believe I slept on it for so long. It's like classic Zelda (A Link to the Past) crossed with Outer Wilds. Wish I could experience it again for the first time.
Well worth the time. I normally don't like the amount of cryptic progression with puzzle games like Fez, but this felt perfect, imo. Like other reviewers have said, best played blind, so if you'd listen to me, I'd say use a guide incredibly minimally, maybe at the end if you feel like it. Otherwise, everything has a findable solution and it is incredibly satisfying. Ok, actual review. I had been waiting to post a review of Tunic since February 2026 (when I played), but I didn't feel like I spent enough time to give a useful opinion anyone else couldn't give. To me Tunic is clearly an homage to Zelda games, and specifically the old-retro style gameplay.
One of the collectables is literally the manual pages for the game.
I'll skip the strong/weak points and just say what I think is important, to me. Yes, the progression is incredibly obtuse. Yes, the controls actively fight you at first. But I don't believe it's difficult if proceeded patiently and with caution. Some puzzles I found more helpful writing out on paper, because then it made more sense seeing it than thinking it. You will probably get stuck on certain portions. Some solutions require information you don't yet know, and to me, that is precisely what I like about Tunic. Unlike Fez and other common puzzle staples, you don't need to know binary, morse code, traveling is not difficult... etc. I'd say the only real challenge is
the language, which as I did most the game without learning, I think is an additional cherry on the cake personally. Like, most things can be solved with the visuals in the manual or cross referencing pages. Very logical
When completed/finished, replaying also has another dimension to it, and things you figured out playing initially were always valid answers starting back over. One of the achievements, which I really liked, really plays with this concept. There is not a lot of gatekeeping/railroading like in other games. The experience, the things you learn ARE the railroads so to speak, and in that sense, it's genius to me. Cannot recommend completely blind enough, and apologies if I gave too much information, but I wanted to be sure people had some idea.
TUNIC instills a true sense of wonder. It's fantastic. Don't read around here for too long, I'm sure you'll spoil yourself in no time. This is another Outer Wilds situation. If the question "What if the Legend of Zelda had a deep sense of mystery to its world, that you can explore and solve entirely through engaging with the game" sounds at all appealing to you, then you should play TUNIC right now, before anyone can spoil those mysteries for you.
This is a game that makes you remember how it feels to fall in love with video games.
