Dear God, give someone else the TRON video game rights PLEASE. Every TRON game these people have made has been clunky, full of bad writing, a lousy plot, boring and repetitive "gameplay", I mean this is a joke. Actually, a joke would have some actual value
So... While I'm recommending this game, it's just barely. There's nothing really wrong with the game, there's just also nothing special about it either. Everything implemented in it has some sort of issue that brings it back to mediocrity. Examples: - The combat has multiple attack types for variety, BUT there's no challenge. Mashing normal attack will do the job almost always. For more difficult fights where normal attack is not enough, abusing the parry button is the easy win button. - There's an upgrade system, BUT it's the saddest skill tree ever. Handful of upgrades for each attach type that are barely noticeable as helpful. - Light Cycle vehicle is cool, BUT clunky controls and heavily limited use area makes me wonder why even include it. I know. I know. "Light Cycles are intrinsic to the whole TrON experience." ...not when it feels like a "Intel Inside" sticker slapped on the box. - Speaking of clunky controls: all controls are fluid enough, but are slow to respond; as if inertia/momentum is built into everything in the game. Including dialog... - The rewind feature is cool, BUT is only used to push the story forward. Almost like Disney decided they wanted the Prince of Persia rewind but without any of it's usefulness. There really needs to be a "Thumbs sideways" option for titles that you neither recommend or not recommend. Because I didn't hate this game, but I didn't particularly like it either. If you're a fan of the TrON aesthetic, buy this on a heavy sale day. Otherwise there are many other titles that do this far better.
I recommend it for Tron fans. Story is decent. Visuals stay true to the Tron Legacy/Evolution look, which I love. Voice acting wasn't great in my opinion. Gameplay is a bit on the boring side with a few annoying bugs like getting stuck between a bench and a car. I'd give it a 7/10 as a huge Tron fan, so possibly a lower rating for everyone.
Fun and enjoyable story. Movement and combat feel stiff at times. Gets a little monotonous towards the end. Would recommend 7/10.
If you’re a fan of the franchise, it’s a mediocre 5/10 experience. If you don’t care about Tron, skip the game entirely. The story and voice-acting is serviceable, but don’t except any satisfying outcomes to the plot. The hook is interesting, the starting ideas are nicely laid down, but it goes nowhere in the end. Gameplay wise - ultra basic combat, rudimentary exploration, bare-bones RPG mechanics. Parry/Riposte button will carry you through 90% of combat encounters without any effort. There’s no actual puzzles or challenging platforming. Tron 2.0 remains the best game in the franchise and I wholeheartedly recommend checking out that classic. Catalyst is just a shell of a game. Quick fix, if you’re a fan, but it leaves you hollow and numb.

i am writing this right after finishing the game and after looking up anything and everything i could on how to fix the literal game breaking problem im having. for one i started this after tron ares (i thought the movie was eh) but was excited to start this game anyway. and that excitement was draining consistently as i played. the game just hits a point where its backtracking and fetch quests until your "ready" to go take on the final boss. and for the final boss i hit the parry button once and then it was dialogue then he left. repeat that 5 more times and thats the end of the game. the main problem i have with this game is how hard it falls short right at the finish line. the difficulty could not go any higher it was way to easy. the story was eh all the characters are supposed to hold positions of power and be important but i did not feel or see that in the world. the "skill tree" is 12 upgrades that make no difference in the game at all. the looping and world status is a good idea on paper but is not taken advantage of. you loop if you mess up and that is where it ends. i feel like this game could have been so good but the story, characters, gameplay and non game breaking bugs drag this game down and leave no room for any pros in my opinion. the actual game breaking bug i have is after the credits roll at the very end of the game i cant start a new game. so now this game that i bought and paid for is now a one and done. even better the game is so bad and so unpopular there is no fix or workaround for it. which i am somewhat glad about because of how annoying it was just to get to the end. this game and tron ares just show that this franchise has so much potential but no one knows how to capitalize on it. or maybe the franchise is bad and just cursed to never be good
TLDR - Bithell Games created a fantastic story but delivers it halfbaked... You can find a video version of this review on YouTube: https://youtu.be/yMH6CI7mrso TRON: Catalyst begins with a compelling premise, casting you as Exo — a courier program whose routine delivery goes catastrophically wrong. The opening quickly launches you into a blend of beat ’em up action and a time-loop mystery where each failure resets the cycle. It’s an intriguing setup that fits well within the TRON universe, creating immediate narrative momentum as you push to break free from the loop and ultimately save the Grid. Visually, Catalyst stands out. The neon-drenched aesthetic and slightly cartoon-styled environments evoke the series TRON: Uprising, giving the world energy and personality. When the game is in motion, it looks fantastic. However, the 2D character portraits used during cutscenes clash heavily with the rest of the game. Bland and a bit uncanny, these portraits consistently undermine emotional beats and feel out of place against the otherwise strong presentation. Following the prologue, the game hands you a decently sized map to explore on your Light Cycle. At first, this open-ended structure feels exciting—finally, a TRON game with your own sandbox to roam in. But the novelty fades quickly. Light Cycle traversal often feels uncomfortable, and most buildings or zones contain little beyond repetitive layouts and minor loot. Exploration becomes more tedious than rewarding, and a world that initially looks expansive ends up feeling rather empty. Combat presents a similar contradiction. Early mechanics hint at a stylish, combo-driven system with creative disc-throwing options. But once you settle into the loop, combat devolves into constant parrying and evasion due to limited healing options. With enemy groups scattered densely across each area, battles begin to feel like obstacles rather than exciting encounters. The lack of incentive to fight drags down the overall pacing and makes traversal even more of a slog. The audio side of Catalyst fares no better. The soundtrack is serviceable but unremarkable, never reaching the iconic punch expected from the TRON name. Voice acting ranges from decent to stilted, though the static cutscene portraits once again drain performances of much of their emotional impact. Nothing is outright bad, but little ever stands out. Where TRON: Catalyst truly succeeds is in its story. Even with a somewhat plain delivery, the time-loop structure and optional lore files build a fascinating look into the Grid. Characters who begin as simple archetypes gradually reveal unexpected depth, turning into memorable allies by the end. The narrative is rich, well-considered, and easily the strongest reason to see the game through - any fans of TRON should give it a chance. If you’re drawn to games with a strong emphasis on storytelling, Catalyst is worth experiencing—but only with the understanding that its gameplay often struggles to support its narrative ambitions. I personally loved the story, but everything surrounding it feels like an unpolished gem that needed more time to mature. In the end, I’d recommend checking out this developer’s stronger work, particularly TRON: Identity, which delivers a far more refined and confident narrative-driven experience. For anyone wondering how long it may take to complete Catalyst, it may take roughly 20 to 30 hours for a first playthrough. My verdict is that you should skip Catalyst. If you are a big fan of TRON you may derive enjoyment from it - or not.
Greetings Users 11/10
