Decent roguelite racing game for the younglings. Still wish the War for Cybtertron games and Devastation came back though :(.
When I first saw the trailer for Transformers: Galactic Trials, I thought, “Oh, a Mario Kart-style Transformers game? That could be interesting. ” Yeah… I was pretty wrong. When it got announced on Steam with a “coming soon” tag, I wondered how much it would cost. Now that it’s sitting at $40, I can say with total confidence: it’s absolutely not worth that price. Not even close. How did I end up playing it for 32 hours? Simple, I got a much cheaper key on Eneba for about 2500 Argentine pesos, which, with inflation and the current dollar rate, comes out to roughly 2 bucks. So yeah, I grabbed it, activated it, and jumped in. At first, it’s kind of fun, especially the local multiplayer. It’s easy to pick up, chaotic, and enjoyable with friends. The weapons, abilities, maps, and especially that classic G1 80s aesthetic are a real treat if you’re a Transformers fan. But here’s the problem: they cannot charge $40 for a game like this. It’s insane. The whole game boils down to the following: Single races Tournaments Local multiplayer That’s it. You race, collect relics, and… that’s the whole experience. Nothing beyond that. And to make things worse, the sense of speed is basically nonexistent until you fully upgrade the characters. Early on, the game feels slow and heavy. On top of that, it has issues it simply shouldn’t have, texture bugs, broken collisions, objects you clip through, and completely messed-up hitboxes where traps can hit you from absurd distances. The handling is also pretty awkward, and the difficulty is inconsistent depending on which character or vehicle type you use. It’s just not a well-polished game. It needed a lot more work. There are mods that improve the experience and make it more enjoyable, but needing mods just to make the game feel right is already a big red flag. So yeah… I can’t recommend it. And that’s coming from someone who’s been a hardcore Transformers fan his whole life. In its current state, and especially at that price, it's impossible to justify. For $2, sure, it’s fine. For $40? That’s straight-up robbery.
This should not exist :\ Bugged beyond belief! Every time you do the boost in the section change - prepare yourself to be either lunged into the wall or stopped in your boost and let others rubber band behind you and 'slingshot' them all in front. unfair. Cars: ugh...the way they control is just...weird, like a butter on the track...and this is not the compliment. sometimes you don't even know when you drift if you have enough velocity to do the turn! while those 'pushes' help to make the turns, but on some tracks you simply CAN'T slowdown, because of the 'rubber band' and 'slingshots'. The maps: The easy ones are fun, the mid challenging - can be fun, BUT! again...just like the hard ones can be VERY annoying! the enemies can throw you off the track, into the acid or simply go waaaaaay beyond you to chase them. the run & gun sections would've been fun...but on harder tracks you simply die for no reason. Every time you change into this mode - ALL your enemies get slingshotted to your location, no matter how far away you think you got away from them and then you get a barrage of bullets in your back...again - VERY UNFAIR to die for no reason! This is not a Mario Kart with random items, here everything is very clear...aaaaaaand...it's sad that we can't get a proper Transformers game for many years now...at least bring back Devastation or something? Graphics: omg...that's just a PRIME (lol) example what UE4 can do...you can't rely on blur and post-processing. Turn off blur and post to mid and you see that the game looks...VERY dated...some UE3 games look better than these textures and the lighting effects...the flowing acid looks like plastic goo... Overall, it would've been a great cellphone game, but for a PC Transformers game...this is a disgrace! Not worth even $16
A Transformers racing game and there isn't a single Stunticon. For a 40 dollar game, there sure are a lot of model reusage. The generic goons are all like 2-3 different models, then even with the main cast, Arcee, Flamewar, Nightbird, and Elita-1 are 4 characters that all use like 2 different models with some kibble alterations. The big unlockable Decepticon character is just an Optimus repaint. The game uses evergreen designs, cool! Except, they were too lazy to animate the spider tank shockwave, so they just gave him an alternate mode of a completely different shockwave, which is quite jarring when you know where his plane mode comes from, and looks kind of bad since it doesn't look like he actually transformed into/from the cybertronian plane (also for a character that turns into a plane he's kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥). The roguelike elements are also just okay, I like roguelikes, but a lot of the unlock challenges are actually atrocious, made worse by the fact that some characters are genuinely just bad (trying to win Prime mode as Megatron is like Sisyphus' boulder.) I can only recommend this game if you get it for like 10-15 dollars like I did, so wait for a big sale, otherwise, don't bother, this is just more shovelware slop coming out so Hasbro can act like they're actually giving their fans something.
I stopped at the "Clear Prime difficulty Galactic Trials using Megatron" task. I am not willing to continue playing this game for now. It's not fun, tedious and repetitive. However, I do plan to return to it when I'm more in the mood to grind it out because I like the nostalgic references. This is the first time I do a public review AND scrap the long list of cons and pros a game has in it. It's a shame because the game had a lot of potential.
The Game Is Good If You Are 8 Years Old If You 20 To 30 Trust Me Don't Play Itself Boring And Is More About Racing Not Combat I Mean What’s Kind Of Transformers Game Is Racing
This game is an ADHD Transformers/racing/arcade gamers dream. I'm someone who loves variety but also simple experiences (roguelites, metroidvanias, arcade shooters, racers), and as someone who grew up playing basically only those types of games, and especially combative racers like shrek racing, mario kart, cars, and being a psychopath in EA Nascar by always intentionally driving in the opposite direction to destroy the other racers - galactic trials simultaneously satisfies my giggity for a new transformers game + arcadey/combative racer. These types of games give me a nerdgasmic dopamine rush I JUST CAN'T EXPLAIN. Over the years I went from playing practically only RPG's and open world games to being bored or empty open worlds and racers with a singular core loop built on sports simulation. Galactic Trials doesn't have a ton of content but let's look at the facts - racing games and arcade shooters don't need much. These are games to pick up and play when you need a break and the almost constant switching between racing and combat satisfies my impulse to have a blend of both. The Cybertron games deserve to be on steam (although emulation exists for a reason so, just saying) but for now this feels like a nice in between for those of us that grew up on those games and racers, and want something that feels like a spinoff, which this does. Transformers One made me want a transformers racer with the same combat and intensity so this is a good start. Yes the gameplay can slow down but it's mostly on the easiest difficulty. On higher difficulties, this stuff gets intense especially if you're trying to take down the other autobots or decepticons and avoiding being shot by them. So give it a shot and definitely get it when its on sale. 20 is honestly still a bit too much for this but it's better than the honestly agregious 50 dollars.
a fun game but with only 10 tracks and 11 characters and only like 3 good weapons, once youve got those 11 characters the game can get boring with not much to do anymore. its a fun game but not worth 40 dollar. better to get it at a discount
For a driving game, the driving doesn't feel at all good, and the combat sections feel super clunky. It all sounds good on paper, but with the cheap execution, boring maps and only 8 characters to choose from it feels lack luster, even when you buy it on a sale.
I'm a transformers fan, but was skeptical about buying this for $40. Right now it's on sale for $13.00. I think that is about a fair price for this game. Game looks nice, I can run it at 244 fps. There's ocassional jank and bugs I've run into as well. But as you progress the handling gets better, and you get to try different guns. I would not recommend this for $40, but anything $20 or less is fair if you are a transformers fan.
