Gotta support indie creators. Theres a lot of great talent out there. A beautiful game.
The story was fantastic and how the characters developed was great. The retro feeling the game gives you really hit a sweet spot with me. The first forty minutes that is available right now as of 12/28 shows a lot of promise from the developer. Can't wait to see what else comes out! I'm glad I waited until after finals were done this semester because I would've been hooked on the game and been craving for the rest of the release.
TL;DR:
Simple sweet short early release rpg with captivating plot , easy to pick up combat system and absolutely gorgeous art. For a game made by just one sole person, it's definitely exceeded my expectations.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
-At first, I thought the screen for the game was way too small, however you can adjust it, (this is clearly mentioned in the game in an interesting way.) -Really great, detailed backgrounds -Lovely music track
Throughout gameplay
-Interesting Combat system -Engaging plot - Vibrant art
Plot
Since the game is still in early access, there are currently 4 chapters available. You play as a spirit warrior , and to become the greatest warrior, you need to pass the "three trials" (without spoiling ofc).
Gameplay
-Difficulty: The game is relatively simple and fun! -Energy: There is an energy/stamina gauge- controls the energy for both running and using skills during combat - Equipping and Using Items is simple (Right click, Left Click) - There's a combat system where you can attack and defend. Relatively straight forward , just make sure you press SPACEBAR to activate the "combat mode" other you are unable to fight back. -No bugs or glitches during combat mode witnessed! Job well done :) -Apparently your decisions influence the direction of the game? (Not to clear about this one) One thing to note is that the game is a little slow at times when it comes to loading or saving. You have to wait until everything loads (increased health etc) to be able to move. This also occurs with battling (you cannot battle straight away). There's also no menu so no options can be tweaked but maybe there will be one in the future. Overall, I can't wait for the release of the upcoming chapters! Definitely looks promising :)

TRANSCEND is an abandoned and incomplete Early Access 2D retro pixel "adventure" game that lamely rips off Avatar and Studio Ghibli themes (because being original is hard). The game was dumped onto Steam as a paid cash grab and abandoned 3 days after launch. Unethically, the developer sold keys for this game to Groupees and Indiegala where they knew it would be resold as a complete product, in an attempt to scam gamers into paying for an incomplete and abandoned product. Aside from the obvious abandoned incomplete nature of the game, it's also broken and doesn't launch properly. Pretending that it did launch properly, wasn't abandoned, and was complete, you wouldn't want to play it anyway. Derivative, lame theme ripping off the work of others aside, the game was made with the craptastic Byond engine, and as always using a poor quality game engine results in a poor quality game. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. Dead games on Steam aren't an uncommon occurrence, unfortunately. Let's go into a quick autopsy to understand why this failed, to help fellow gamers recognise the signs so they can avoid wasting time and money on similar, dead products. The core faults obviously are the woefully poor technical execution, the abandoned nature of the game and the unethical actions of the developer, and these all point back to the development team. Wait a second, there is no development team! This was made by a sole developer who seems proud of both trying to make a game without enough staff, and also seems proud of the fact they had no idea how to make a game but tried to do it anyway (and failed). Developing a game without adequate staff, resources, skills and knowledge can be done. Just like you can drive a car using only your feet. And it usually ends in disaster. Just because something can be done doesn't make it a good idea. Of course, developers all have to start somewhere... but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do to publish an incomplete product on Steam when you don't even know what you're doing and have no idea how to even finish what you started. Steam should not be a dumping ground for people's unfinished homework. Ultimately, this failed because the focus of the amateur developer here was never on gamers. The whole project was a self centred, self serving action with no thought for the gaming industry or most important people in that industry, the gamers. Gamers deserve better.
Knock Knock. Who's There? Game. Game who? Exactly. This isn't a game; it's a paid demo... What the actual ♥♥♥♥? I'm assuming this game is still a work in progress and more stuff will come out for it in time, but the way the game is made now, it might not be worth it. I would hate spoiling this game, but unfortunately this game hasn't even gotten far enough for there to be anything to spoil CONSIDERING I was still playing the tutorial when the game decided to announce that the demo was over. Why else would I not recommend? Well the fighting was actual unrefined cancer. The controls seemed like a bad hybrid of WASD and point and click. I say this because the game explains that in order to use any equipped power (such as a speed dash or spear throw), you have to use the num keys at the top of the keyboard, which you can't hotkey change at all so lol ♥♥♥♥ you buddy. The game is so short right now that I could actually play the whole thing and STILL get a refund. Which I'm actually perplexed by. NOTE TO THE DEV: I figure that since I have made games in the past, however not to this extent, that I still have the qualification to give advice on how I think the game could be improved. Make the movement 100% WASD only, no influence from mouse clicks should move the character. Change the running mechanic to be when shift is held down, this is tradition in games and makes the controls feel more controllable. I do not quite understand the attack variety, it just seems to cycle through thrust, strike, and overhead. But I will say that it does not seem too important to emphasize which attack I am using, as the game never explains it but still has hud showing which one I'm using for some reason. Just scrap the idea and keep the animations whatever it is. Making it more simple would be better. Rather than hotkeying the powers to the AIDS numbers at the top of the keyboard, figure out a better way to implement the feature through the normal keyboard, or even just add a feature that lets me change the controls. Some suggestions for power controls would be making the spear throw a fire and forget method, rather than press 1, aim, fire and forget. You could just make the spear throw fire where the mouse is currently. As for the dash, it could definitely be a situational key, like double tap shift, or even pressing shift in battlemode. AS FOR BATTLEMODE AND RUNMODE, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY NEED TO BE A THING AS IT IS VERY CLEAR WHEN AND WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTACK AND NOT ATTACK, IT IS JUST AN EXTRA CONFUSING STEP TO BATTLING. Make the character look, strike, block, and shoot at mouse position as to emphasize the importance of using the mouse to do these things. THE WASD KEYS SHOULD NOT CHANGE THE WAY THE CHARACTER IS FACING. From there we should talk more about the story so far: Upa is our rival, but he feels more like a husk of a human being than an actual person that was resurrected like you. I feel like it was wasted to skip ACTUAL YEARS of training with this character and really dehumanizes this important character. Perhaps add a few dialogues with Upa between the text about training for years and have them talk about their past lives and how they don't understand why they have been chosen to come back to life as these people. Anyways that's all I plan on writing for now, please contact me if you want to know anything else, for now I'm gonna have to not recommend the game though.
Wow what a game!
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a major keeper on our hands here. TRANSCEND follows the story of a newly chosen Hero who is gifted with a spirit animal and the body of a human warrior in order to become the very best they can be. The provocative storyline clearly demonstrates a profound sense of realism mixed with the absolutely breathtaking visuals. The sounds are incredibly appropriate and as of the writing of this I've finished all there was to try. I'm here to tell you gamers. This game is an absolutely must have on the proverbial wishlist. Visuals: 10 out of 10. The artwork is absolutely breathtaking, There's so much color and vibrancy that I felt the urge to dance with glee. The visuals are incredible. Developer, you have done so much with these beautiful arrays of color patterns, choices of hue and shadings to make tears of joy come to my eyes. Sounds: Wonderfully crisp, perfectly executed sounds in regards to the specific patterns of when you engaged in combat. 10 out of 10. They were spot on for defense and offense. Game Mechanics: The mechanical aspect of controlling is just a tiny bit strange. You use WASD to move, space to enter combat, left mouse plus the number keys to do various feats such as spiritual spear, R for run and I for inventory, luckily a simple click of the r and you can run for a certain amount of time until your energy is used up. I give the control scheme a strong 9 out of 10 because i really didn't get hindered down while using it. Story: I am here to tell you, the story feel is terrific. I would have liked a little bit more of a quicker moving text base as that aspect is just a tiny bit on the slow side for my liking but I enjoyed the experience none the less. I played from the prologue all the way to chapter 4 which is just about all there is right now. And it left me wanting more. and more. and more. The story has the becomings of being a major hit and I feel like the game is going in the right direction so far. Overall it earns a solid 10 out of 10. Final Thoughts: I not only would recommend this to family and friends, I would recommend this game to neighbors, gamers of all ages, and to complete strangers at gaming events. My final thoughts as of now are, I really want to know what happens next. I would have liked it if the mode came with a wolf as a choice for spirit animal as right now there are only three choices available to me, but I was satisfied with my selection. (FYI I chose the Bear). The game really is splendidly done and I am completely blown away by how breathtaking everything looks. This very well could be my choice for Game of the Year.
I would like to play the game because it sounds interesting, but I can not play with W, A, S, D (need arrow keys to play) and the game does it every time I move Screenshots !!! so that you have tons of screenshots. The developer does not answer or does nothing, although the game is in early access.
Been wanting to play this for a long time now, I'm so disappointed... While the story and art are awesome, it's hard to like a game about combat where the fighting system is so horrible. You have to push a number to prepare for using a skill, then use the WASD keys to use it while aiming with the mouse. So using the any skill in reaction for something is pretty impossible, as you just don't have enough time / hands to use it fast enough to exploit the accurate timing required to do it successfully... I'm done with this, sadly.
