There are a lot of good bones in this game, and I enjoyed the demo, but as of right now I can't recommend it, even though it's so close to being a game I'd really love. There is simply too much punishing RNG in the moment to be enjoyable. For example, far too often I've had a run where I reveal a tile and oops, without warning it's a volcano or a curse that spreads fire or disease across the entire colony, wiping it out without any way to stop it (there's technically a way to stop it, but it takes so many resources that trying to stop it will also kill you), or suddenly making your resources a -50 (which also results in a rapid death spiral unless you have extremely high yields, because the strict time limit to recover from missing resources is incredibly short). RNG can also ruin your run by giving you no reasonable places to build things you need (by only giving you water tiles or hordes of bears when you need to build houses at the start of the game), and those are only a few examples of the RNG issues. There are also some unfinished elements (for example, the game over screen has filler text that clearly was supposed to be replaced before launch). I'd love to get further into the game, explore the tech tree more, and see what interesting things can be built; it's a great concept, the art is lovely, and the idea of adding in more roguelike elements to a dorfromantik-like city builder absolutely appeals to me. Unfortunately, it's such an unsatisfying slog to fight against the RNG and the difficulty is far too overtuned right right now; it needs another balancing pass, especially for the early parts of the campaign. I do want to give it another chance if it does get an overhaul down the road, but it's not worth dealing with the RNG until that happens.
Great game, the tutorial explains the game clearly. The game itself is great, it puts you into thinking and it is not too dificult
Obnoxiously luck-based. You can get up to the point where the king demands over 140 population and food in spite of you having about 15 population and +4 per turn with 10 turns to go. You somehow manage to pull everything together so you'll make it with one turn to spare, and then a random event hits you with the choice between losing 80 population or -12 food for 10 turns. There's a campaign mode, but the game can give you an absolutely unplayable start, like if you have wolves two tiles away from your town hall that get revealed after you built the only housing you can afford, so you're now in an irrecoverable death spiral with no resources because all the other tiles are mountains or oceans so you have almost no population, no food, and no means of gaining any while your population is eaten by wolves. In skirmish mode, this just leads to frequent restarts until you get a good start, (which is already a plague on the Diet Civiilzation subgenre,) but in campaign mode, this ruins a run that you've played for hours. Add to this, the "Civpedia" of this game is blank until you actually build a building. (And you need to unlock the information on buildings for EACH FACTION, so starting a new faction sends you back to completely wandering blind.) Watering holes give you nothing if you look at them in the build menu, but they hint at having some "adjacency bonus." How much? Does it work with goat ranches or just farms? No way to know until you commit to a risk in your campaign run where being surprised by something will ruin all the progress you've made over the course of the entire game! The game is filled with events involving random ruin-type objects, and the results of interacting with them is just purely a matter of losing the game because of them until you memorize the right answers. The "riddles" make no sense, like "this obelisk flashes random elements, arrange the elements properly" with ZERO clue what order you're actually supposed to put them in, and you go to -30 faith with no churches if you guess wrong. It's a game with no good ideas on how to actually make interesting decisions, so they make the outcomes blind until you lose enough times you memorize the answers and the game apparently becomes easy, but then, there's nothing else to this game, so it's just boring. The only thing this game has to be "challenging" is to be absurdly cryptic and random in ways that ruin your run completely out of nowhere instead of giving you any fighting chance to actually reverse things. It's the worst kind of "strategy" game, one where you can't strategize to deal with the randomness, you just have to hope you have stockpiles enough to survive it while being completely up to the whims of RNGesus. Go play Hexarchy, instead - they know how to make a game that's random with the means for players to actually manipulate the odds.

Cool game, mechanics are well thought out and its pleasant to play
The game mechanics are decent. BUT. For mouse and keyboard the controls are horrendous. Sure they work, but there are SO MANY CLICKS. Want to build something? Klick the tile, click arrow keys until you find the building you want to build (a radial menu would have been a million times more convient), than click "build". Also if you have a controller plugged in the game will show it's hotkeys, even when you use mouse/keyboard (in this day and age games should auto-detect what inputs you actually use). You can do much better in the 4X-genre, especially on PC.
I've tried this game a few times and it is much more difficult than it might first appear. I have to admit that even though loosing feels frustrating, it also keeps drawing you in and telling you.... one more game, you can do it! In short, the GFX is nothing special. It looks indy, feels indy but that is OK. No high end PC needed for this. My first impression was that it had a large Carcassonne feel to it, but that is not true. The fun part is trying to uncover what is on the next undiscovered tile. Is it good, can you use it? Then you have the aspect of planning. Different factions use different things to progress. Once you know a bit how things work, it becomes a little easier. In all, would I recommend this? Perhaps so yes. It is a nice game you can play while doing other things and use for a distraction. There is no Real Time Strategy to it, so waiting will not ruin your game. But keep in mind you need to be strategic, plan ahead and keep an eye on the resources. I will check it out some times again. If you like puzzles, don't mind loosing every once and again, this is certainly a game for you. Do you like to rage quit? I suggest to leave it be, it will not be good for you, your gear and maybe the people around you ;)
