Bottom line up front: The game deserves recognition for covering the ancient era and introducing a variety of features that feel fresh and new. However, the AI operates so far away from constraints that you're left scratching your head over how a faction with only two settlements manages to field five armies of 10-20 units each. The campaign customisation is welcome, but functionally it does not introduce balancing at all. I tested two campaigns to see the effects of increasing or decreasing AI upkeep / recuitment slots and public order and between the two save files no difference was observed. Even outposts, a great feature, become isolated liabilities that are constantly razed or raided by an enemy which apparates out of nowhere - the campaign map is visually stunning but without substance in what the terrain actually enables or denies. The effect is ultimately one of boredom as you spend your time playing whack-a-mole against an infintie horde of tier 1 levies travelling across the whole map on the nile river. I'm left enjoying my time for a moment, until the points above rear their head anew.

Review for Dynasties and someone who has played a total war game before, if not try one. I purchased this on sale, and after it's been out for some time, so probably lots of patches have been done. This release is like your getting the game plus all the DLC's in one, which is great for the cost conscious gamer. This is a great game with some really good features being adopted that I haven't seen in total war before. It's really polished and user friendly. If you're a new player or a veteran buy it, it's worth it even at full price and if you have the money imho.

A very fun total war set in the bronze age.
Crashes after battles forcing me to replay significant gameplay time for no reason. Extremely frustrating and immersion breaking. I've played half a dozen total war games and this is the only one I've had issues with. After this fourth time with the game crashing I've accepted this game is not playable and need a refund. This is the only game I've ever requested a refund on so this was a very disheartening experience.
