Pretty good game, controls are OK with controller. It holds your hand a bit too much though imo, but it's still a fun experience (similar to danganronpa games). Seems like many of the negative reviews are complaining about bad controls (imo, fine with controller, apparently bad with mouse/keyboard, and price (has been reduced from 60 to 30 since). Keep that in mind when you see the game has mostly negative reviews. FYI, there will be times you will have to google for answers, since a few things are kinda hard to find yourself, especially if you are not japanese.
I wanted to like this game. I really did. Unfortunately, it has so very much potential and completely wastes it. The premise for the game is really good, and the actual gameplay loop of analysing evidence, including live action video and audio, is a brilliant concept. Unfortunately, the game lets itself down with the execution of its narrative, cases, character development, and gameplay. Throughout every single case, until the very last mystery, the game holds your hand, taking away your control multiple times during every investigation. This also blocks you from saving, and doing any of the other optional actions you can see on screen such as changing the BGM, using the door to explore the area (barely used at all with few opportunities to actually do this) or feeding the cat. It feels infantilising and takes away from the feeling that you are actually solving a mystery yourself. Some of the cases feel very incomplete. Case 2 in particular is exceptionally short and feels incredibly unsatisfying. I was left thinking "is that it? aren't we going to find who person X was talking to in the beginning?" I had hoped this would be revisited later, but whilst you do find out the identity, it is only casually mentioned in passing. Case 4, notoriously (given the forums) has one of the most frustrating logic leaps needed in the game, and is nearly impossible for non-Japanese players to solve naturally. The game presents a setup of a character who is incredibly interested in European classical music and steganography/cryptography. One evidence item even contains a table for decrypting a specific type of code... This table is never used. Instead the clue is to be taken literally, not decrypted, and the player is supposed to relate it to a piece of Japanese traditional music. The clear build up of hints towards a very obvious puzzle decryption step is just completely dropped and bypassed in a way that makes no logical sense. It almost feels like something must have been changed very late in development, it's that jarring. If you do play and get absolutely stuck in case 4, there is absolutely no shame in looking up the solution as you are almost guaranteed to never get it naturally.
The password is sakurasakura - the notes are literally a Japanese folk melody that if you talk to Tomona you will get a tool to play aloud, but good luck recognising it if you aren't already familiar with the tune.
The ending feels incredibly rushed and unsatisfying, and sets up a 'To be continued' whilst leaving many questions discarded and unanswered. The player, set up to have a potentially fascinating backstory (your memory has been partially lost due to time with the psychics cult, and you seem to have some sort of premonitions/psychic-related dreams at the start of several chapters) could essentially not be there and the game would play out just the same. This backstory is never explored or touched upon, and just left there with no resolution. I'd hoped there would be a bold and interesting twist in the last chapter relating to it, but... nothing. Again, I really, truly wanted to love this game, and it had all the elements for something I would love, being a huge fan of games like Zero Escape, Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, Your Turn To Die etc. The best way I can describe it is honestly 'so much wasted potential'. I must praise the quality of the English translation, however. I never once had an issue with a puzzle due to anything related to translation or localisation, and it was integrated into the evidence images etc. very well. Overall, I cannot in good faith recommend this game. I could live with the disappointing gameplay if the storytelling was tight and satisfying. I could live with a disappointing story if the gameplay was engaging and I actually felt like I was the one solving the mystery independently without railroading. But unfortunately both are disappointing. If you do want to experience it for yourself, wait until it is on a very steep sale discount.
The game is not suuper long but it was very fun! It took me one day to finish it. Honestly, I don't quite understand why the review is so negative?? What I like: - It really does test your deductions and most times, making you really analyze the details of things. The gameplay of using the Image analysis and audio was a nice touch too as it give it this almost realistic vibe. - The fact that they use real people for the videos and all makes the experience kinda creepy in some moments which I actually like a lot (tho I was creeped out lol) - The story was pretty good, although you can kind of guess who the main villain is, it doesn't really ruin it in my opinion. - Interesting Characters! - Voice acting of course www --- What could be improved: - There was one or two times where you NEED to know japanese or their culture to solve it, which is a bit unfair to be honest. Luckily walkthrough exists lmao - yes, they are nice but the Intro and Ending songs always appearing every Case was getting pretty annoying. I was glad I can skip the intros but not the ENDING?! I understand perhaps they wanted to give the game more of a "series" vibe but I would have like the option where I can skip it as well - The guidance was a bit too much for my taste. At EVERY start of the case, they will force you to press the option they want you to. At this point, I have already figure out how the mechanics work so, the constant helping was ruining the experience slightly. Aren't we suppose to be a big brain detective guy? I don't need my hand to be constantly held pls XD Overall I would give the game a 8/10 rating :DD
This is overall a good game, if a bit short (I finished it in <9 hours; maybe wait for a Steam sale to get your money's worth). A few positives:

Each of the cases are quite well-made with logical solutions to all the puzzles.
I like how the final case recontextualizes the previous four
I also enjoyed the overarching storyline between the cases
The art style is great
I would have said it's a great game if it weren't for many annoyances that pop up throughout the game:

The keyboard controls don't make much sense to start with and are sometimes inconsistent within the in-game devices; for example, will backspace exit out of the device entirely, or just out of the mode the device is currently in?
There are several instances where it feels like the game is just wasting your time. Every time you load up a new video, for example, you have to wait through a loading animation and then another "AI Scanning" animation before you can actually watch the video; the same applies to audio. There's another instance in Case 2 where you're expected to watch through 12 floors of video recordings, most of which have nothing happen (though you can kind of just skip through most of them once you get the pattern)
There are two instances where the localization needs improvement: Case 4 has an instance where you're expected to recognize the Japanese folk song "Sakura" (I did happen to know this on my own, though for non-musicians it may make sense to add another document to this case regarding Japanese folk songs) and Case 5 has an instance where you need to know that the Japanese word for "ethanol" is "エタノール" (frankly, if they'd just left the document on ethanol in Japanese instead of translating it to English, this part would have been fine)
There are times where you know the answer to a question in the investigation report, but can't figure out which piece of evidence the devs intended for you to submit for it. Luckily, you don't need 100% accuracy to pass a case, but this can be annoying if you're going for 100% achievements.
