It's a cute game, but if you're expecting a deep build-customizing strategy game, this isn't it. The upgrades you get are pretty much just stats, with little synergy available. It's fine, but the price tag is definitely on the high side for what you get. It reminds me, fondly, of similar old school flash games... but not much more than that.
“Soon there’ll only be 7 planets left, cause I’m gonna destroy Uranus” - Me, to the AI, as I proceed to capture their planets en masse.
📝 Main Pros, Cons, and Suggestions, followed by the Review:
🟩 Pros: + Planets have enjoyable facial expressions + Tutorial does a good job of explaining everything + 5 constellations, featuring a roguelike gameplay loop with 5 lives + 9 factions, each with different starting strength, speed, and abilities 🟥 Cons: - No mid-match restart - Tutorial planets could be reduced, with more elements being introduced in a single missing rather than one by one - The last section (battle) of the first constellation did not unlock during one of my runs (until I performed a full restart) 🏷️ Suggestions: ~ Enable a mid-match restart ~ Reduce the scope of the tutorial ~ Build upon the current ability/skill pool
A fast paced RTS experience without the complexity and mental fatigue
To the Stars follows a formula that will be familiar to anyone who enjoyed the Flash game ‘Little Stars for Little Wars’ – Start with a planet, build your fleet, and conquer the galaxy. The more planets you control, the faster your fleet grows – It’s a tried and tested formula. To the Stars adds a creative spin to this loop with strength (how many ships are produced and sent per attack), speed (how fast ships are generated), abilities, monuments (unique win conditions), and planet mass (a production cap that eventually causes planets to explode). I had a great time with the fast-paced, frantic action, and earning gems to unlock upgrades from the shop made for noticeable improvements. But the lack of depth, combined with planets eventually exploding, meant I never got to experience any truly massive, all-out battles. The upgrades mostly feel like stat boosts rather than meaningful improvements, and while the mechanics add variety, they don’t go far enough to make the game feel strategic. That’s not to say To the Stars is a bad game, far from it – It’s action packed, balanced, polished, and I enjoyed every minute. While the mechanics feel like a missed opportunity, that isn’t a fault of the game, rather my expectations of them. Ultimately, To the Stars is a solid choice for those seeking a fast paced RTS experience without the complexity and mental fatigue, especially now at 50% off! Really fun! I used to play Galcon Fusion back in the day and it's like that but with lot's more game-play mechanics. It also runs super smooth which feels nice.
The game so far feels very polished and reasonable balanced. The game Is beautiful and feels nice to play, with a simple but increasingly complex resource distribution. I feel like some things are oversimplified: The speed stat controls production AND ship speed, which in my games is just overwhelming. Enemies often cannot even make the first turns before I won the map. I would suggest it's split into ship speed (maybe reducing lane cost as well) and production speed. Some Ideas feel not fully explored(yet, (though I have not been testing all races) Like having ship upgrades, or having upgrades that are only active on certain conditions: - Having shooting other ships but weaker against planets - ships with shields tanking the fire - ships exploding on ship contact - ships doing extra dmg to neutral planets - ships returning immediately when a lane in being closed - Also having a huge planet or a planet on the collapse getting special stats/boons - Or having stats/boons only active when controlling one planet or a number, or a group of plannets Anyway, this one is a lighthearted and charming game, still having an interesting and sometimes surprising game flow. I can recommend it without hesitation.
Great little mission RTS roguelike, quick runs and quite unique. I could see it getting repetitive because of the simplicity but I'm having a lot of fun still 2 hours in.
Do you like....lets call it "real-time strategy puzzlers"? Then this might be a game for you. Its colorful, has a bit of humor, nice art direction and is very casual to play for a few battles in between. Fun!
It's fun for about an hour. I kept playing expecting a little more depth, but it isn't there. You can play every map the same way (just expanding fast) and win
Great execution of the core gameplay: dynamic games, more variety (even if it could even be larger)
You can play this on the side listening to a podcast, or pause often and really optimise your supply lines. And the planets have faces!
oh snap, this is a nice quick-play strategy game
