About

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.
This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny.

With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.
And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

Playtime: 8.2 hrs (100% of achievements, game completed twice). Grindy achievement(s): None. Difficult achievement(s): None.
Overview
This character-driven visual novel about two doctors who alter a dying man’s memories to fulfill his final wish will forever hold a special place in my heart. While the gameplay is minimal, the story more than makes up for it.
Should you buy this game?
Yes — if you enjoy narrative-focused games with emotional storytelling. However, it may not be for you if you prefer gameplay-heavy titles or a more traditional story structure.

In-Depth Review
To the Moon is a visual novel with a few light puzzle elements. There are no choices, and progression is entirely story-driven as you move backward through a man’s memories to understand his life and his desire to reach the moon. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758083484 The pacing can feel slow at the beginning. I even dropped the game about an hour in during my first attempt. It takes time before the story starts to connect, but once it does, you’re left with a deeply emotional, character-driven narrative. What makes the story unique is that it’s told in reverse, moving from later memories to earlier ones. It’s not a format you often see, and it can make the emotional context harder to grasp at times, since you’re constantly rebuilding meaning from fragments of a life you’re stepping backward through. That fragmentation is also part of what makes the ending hit as hard as it does (I cried). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758083636 The characters and their relationships are at the center of the story, with their personalities brought to life through strong dialogue. I also found the game funnier than expected in places, which helps balance out the heavier themes. The pixel art and music are another highlight. Both are beautiful and do a lot of emotional heavy lifting throughout the game. Combined, they give the story a distinct atmosphere that I can’t get enough of. My second playthrough hit harder than the first. Knowing where everything leads adds weight to earlier scenes, even if the structure still makes the timeline slightly difficult to fully process. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758083724

É difícil chamar To the Moon de apenas um jogo.
Very well-written and emotional story. I feel a little conflicted about the ending since I think it's meant to be happy but it feels very bittersweet to me. I like the game though and I recommend it.
