创造三国志 is an ambitious large-scale strategy title that seeks to reinterpret the familiar Three Kingdoms era through a blend of grand strategy planning and massive battlefield engagements. Developed by 瞬息万变工作室 and published by Moment HK, the game positions itself as a sandbox of historical possibility, where players are invited not only to reenact famous campaigns, but to reshape the fate of fractured China through their own strategic choices. From the outset, it is clear that the project aims high, prioritizing scale and systemic breadth over immediate polish. The strategic layer forms the backbone of the experience. Players choose a faction during key historical starting points and are tasked with managing territory, resources, officers, and diplomatic relationships. Cities must be developed to sustain armies, resources must be balanced between expansion and defense, and political decisions often carry long-term consequences. Diplomacy plays a meaningful role, allowing alliances, ceasefires, and betrayals that reflect the instability of the era. While these systems echo established Three Kingdoms strategy traditions, 创造三国志 emphasizes player agency, encouraging experimentation rather than rigid adherence to historical outcomes. Combat is where the game’s ambition becomes most apparent. Battles are designed to unfold on a massive scale, with enormous armies clashing simultaneously across wide terrain. The sense of commanding thousands of soldiers at once can feel impressive, especially when formations collide and the battlefield becomes a chaotic blend of movement, morale shifts, and tactical positioning. Terrain, unit composition, and timing all influence outcomes, rewarding players who plan carefully rather than relying solely on numerical superiority. At the same time, the sheer scale can occasionally reduce clarity, making it difficult to read engagements or issue precise commands in the heat of battle. The transition between strategic planning and real-time combat is central to the game’s identity. Decisions made on the campaign map—such as supply routes, recruitment priorities, and officer assignments—directly affect battlefield performance. Officers play a particularly important role, functioning as force multipliers whose placement and survival can dramatically change the flow of combat. This connection between macro-strategy and micro-execution is one of the game’s strongest conceptual elements, reinforcing the feeling that victories are earned through preparation rather than reflex alone. Visually, 创造三国志 presents a utilitarian but serviceable style. Unit models, environments, and interface elements prioritize functionality and scale over dramatic flair. While battles can look impressive from a distance due to the number of units involved, close-up detail and animation quality remain relatively modest. The interface, though information-dense, can feel overwhelming at first, especially for players new to complex strategy games. Over time, however, familiarity makes navigation smoother, and the emphasis on clarity over spectacle begins to feel intentional rather than lacking. As an Early Access title, the game’s rough edges are noticeable. Balance issues, inconsistent AI behavior, and limited onboarding can sometimes disrupt immersion. Some systems feel underexplained, requiring players to learn through trial and error rather than guided tutorials. That said, the underlying structure shows promise, and the developers’ willingness to iterate based on feedback suggests a long-term vision rather than a static release. For players accustomed to Early Access development cycles, these imperfections may feel like growing pains rather than fatal flaws. Community reception reflects this tension between potential and execution. Players who enjoy deep strategy systems and are willing to tolerate incomplete features often praise the game’s scale and ambition, while others express frustration with its current lack of refinement. This divide underscores the game’s identity as a passion project aimed at a niche audience that values systemic depth and historical context over immediate accessibility. Ultimately, 创造三国志 is a game driven by aspiration. It does not yet offer the polish or clarity of long-established Three Kingdoms franchises, but it compensates with scope, freedom, and a willingness to attempt something grand. For strategy enthusiasts fascinated by large-scale warfare and the political complexity of the Three Kingdoms period, it offers a compelling—if imperfect—framework to explore alternative histories. In its current form, it is best approached as an evolving strategy sandbox, one that rewards patience and curiosity while hinting at greater potential still to come. Rating: 6/10
