About
“A surreal journey into the afterlife. Can you survive the Thousand Hells?”
Four heroes risk their body and mind as they descend into the underworlds. Thousand Hells is a tactical narrative game where your choices determine your fate and change your party forever. Assemble a team that can handle the physical and mental trials of hell, or at least the demons, guardians, and gods in the one you’re visiting today.
In the underworlds, you and your team must fulfill your contract with the mysterious Ambassador, which changes with every mission. Planning helps, but no job ever goes according to plan...

Customize your character and build a party with unique skills and traits.
Dynamic Narrative Encounters: Choose the best option and use your party’s skills to advance with your body and mind intact.
Life or Death Choices: Multiple paths for every encounter. Take a risk for big payoffs or play it safe to keep your party healthy?
Highly Replayable: Create a new unique quest or retry failed missions. Your cast of helpers changes each time.
Experience Every Underworld: Whether you’re following in Orpheus’s footsteps to rescue a loved one or save the Eternal City from an insect plague, the underworld you visit and how you tackle its challenges will change the way the story plays out.
An anthology of mythic journeys imagined by 8 different writers, with hundreds of hand-painted illustrations.

Every heist needs a team but not all heroes get along! Before setting out you need to gather a party of skilled adventurers. Each hero has a profession and a unique set of skills. Make sure to choose a variety of skills and personalities so you’ll be ready no matter what comes crawling out...

The evil below has many weaknesses, your choices will affect your chances at surviving. Use the strengths of your party in over 280 unique dynamic narrative encounters. Skills will change depending on your team’s successes and failures. Avoid combat by sending your bard to calm the nerves of bandits. Hire a demonologist to communicate with a possessed book. Take the risk and reap the rewards, otherwise you’ll end up with a broken arm, or worse.

Thousand Hells is highly replayable, creating a new unique quest or letting you retry a failed mission. Your cast of helpers is different each time. One run takes about an hour, but automatic saving and a synopsis of the story so far lets you play when you only have a few minutes.

You reside in the Eternal City, a Byzantine-flavored fantasy world where untold demons lurk below your feet, with riches ready for the taking, if you dare. A client hires you for one last job, but you’ll need the right team to pull it off.
Thousand Hells takes place in a stand-alone fantasy world from the designers of King of Dragon Pass and the Six Ages series. This anthology narrative was pulled from the minds of 8 different writers such as Robin D. Laws and Aaron A. Reed and is supplemented by gorgeous hand-painted illustrations. Each hell is distinct, with its own palette and idiosyncratic threats to survive. No generative AI was used in the making of this game.

Stories and Game system are interesting! At first time, you will be confused- but slowly you will get it! Before the "combat" or "puzzle" start- you will decide who will do job. Face big locked safe? Send thief or lockpicker! Ghost challenge you to poem fight? Get singer or the face to talk them with poems! Honest, if you had play their games before- you would get a lot choices and paths the hard part is the plan would never go perfect. You gotta to make hard choices, watch your supply, and heck- make sure not touch or take something from people of hell! If you enjoys read and make decide, then this game is for you.
I am not entirely sure about the gameplay. At first I was very frustrated. But after a few runs I've started to come around on it a bit. Sort of got a feel for what to pick with what I have. It does feel like you need to be able to find joy in stumbling around in the dark to get anything from the game. That said, I think this game is worth it just for the writing. Even when a heist ends in failure it often produces an interesting story. Well sometimes. Other times its a bit of a wet thud. Hopefully they introduce some sort of "story mode" for people that don't enjoy grappling with their frustration as much.

First of all : THIS IS NOT KoDP or Six ages. Treat Thousand hells on its onw merit. Its a very different game. I am.. conflicted on this one.. so lets dissect thousand hells first : the good. art is good writing is pretty above average. but it can be hit and miss sometimes. the gameplay: thousand hells tries to capture the experience of a homebrew tabletop session. passing check can be infuriating but that's the point. you are delving into the world that doesn't work on sense alone. some fails are harmful, others aren't. it can seem you are blind and instruction are unclear but its not. it just needs some getting used to. its like playing the cultist simulator for the first time. the Bad: my main issue is the amount of content. by the time you unlock all the stories the event will repeat, especially in the pre-underworld. the game is named Thousand Hells looks inside: four. overall I would still recommend this one but would recommend waiting until its on sale. its not perfect but its definetly better than AI slot we are getting these days.
The replay value is real with this one. The stories are great. The characters have interesting quarks that influence the stories. To be honest, it is challenging. The decision you have to make have legs on them and I lost 2 times before I actually won a story. I'm hooked. I can't wait to dive into it deeper. There is so much I have not unlocked. Great job devs!
Incredibly captivating, with beautiful art and great writing to pair with it. The character writing is done so well that i found myself forgetting the characters were procedurally generated to begin with! I've seen complaints regarding difficulty, but I've only had one run so far and managed to beat it despite still not fully understanding how the challenge mechanic works yet. Maybe I'm just really lucky, or i've intuited something about the mechanics better than other people, but either way difficulty has not been a problem for me.
This is a visual gamebook with a lot of random elements, but also feels incredibly satisfying when you manage to win a run. Each run only takes at most an hour, so the value is in the replayability, and the way that the game makes you feel a sort of unifying narrative to each run. There is no meta-currency, so the main way to get ahead is to get a feel for what kinds of skills would be useful once you see the map. So far, I've lost my first run, then won my second run after planning better and getting more lucky.
Good punchy visualy rich writing, and an engaging yet simple game system - makes for a snappy (around an hour for each storie) interactive quest with alot of emergent story beats. Add to that impressive artwork and music (in which i want more of) and you get a pretty enjoyable game. Big fan of previous A Sharp projects, this one is an interesting direction of modular storytelling.
I've only done one run of this game so far, but can tell I'm going to be doing so many more. It's like a choose your path adventure story with more meat on the bones: challenges, choices in one area affecting another, the music and art are great. I can't wait to do plenty of more runs and see what all this has to offer. Works well on steam deck besides the tutorial tips not having a dedicated way to clear them (they go away with the next action but sometimes they're a bit in the way). Some people may not care for the fuzziness of some of the traits and how they would fare as an action, but I'm going to give that more time before I come to a conclusion on it myself.
amazing storytelling, lore, and writing.
I'm saying this after one complete run, but it already gave me one of the most unique adventures I've read, with some tough moments of choice and tension. I think it's a superbly written game with beautiful music and art. Worth it for even just one playthrough
