About
Thomas Was Alone. And then, well, he Wasn't.
Thomas Was Alone is an indie minimalist 2D platformer about friendship and jumping and floating and anti-gravity. Starting with Thomas, become acquainted with a group of rectangles-slash-sentient-AIs, learn their individual abilities, and navigate them through 120 levels of obstacles.
Listen to a critically acclaimed score by David Housden. Jump over blocks and barriers meticulously placed by Mike Bithell. Listen to a voiceover read wistfully, a bit amusingly, and BAFTA-winningly by Danny Wallace.
Thomas Was Alone tells the story of the world's first sentient artificial intelligences, and how they worked together to, well, not escape: Escape is a strong word. 'Emerge' might be better. 'Emerge' has an air of importance about it, while keeping the myriad plot twists and superhero origin stories you'll discover under wraps. We didn't even mention the bouncing. That'd be overkill.

Utilize the unique skills of 10+ characters to beat 120 levels.
Uncover the story of AIs becoming unexpectedly sentient.
Immerse yourself in David Housden's critically acclaimed procedural score.
Chuckle along to Danny Wallace's narration.
Thomas Was Alone, Then He Wasn't?
At first this felt like a strange game with mundane graphics. Then the narrator started talking and the graphics just didn't matter anymore. Danny definitely deserved his BAFTA. This game is a great platformer but the narrator steals the show here. I would never expect to get to attached to rectangles, but this game's narrative and the unique playfullness of it makes me jealous of this digital friend circle

Great minimalistic puzzle platformer with a nice narrative. Really enjoyed this game. Had just enough difficulty to make you think, but not so much that it was overly frustrating.
A fun little puzzle game that doesn't overstay it's welcome, as there's really only so much you can play of this type of game before it becomes repetitive. The game introduces new mechanics along the way but finds the right balance of not adding too much at once and letting you breathe as you learn.
I remember watching Zackscott play this years ago when I was in elementry school and finally decided to play it. Admittedly it's not a great platformer, not much challenge at all really, but it does have very good narration. The ending cutscene was a bit underwhelming and the cut to credits after is kinda jarring. I think this game would benefit from a level editer, there's some potential here. Since its fairly cheap, I don't think there's any harm in trying it if you're going in mostly blind.
played it for the first time when i was in highschool, and just finished it for the first time today, almost a decade later. It's very very good.
