Charming and fun game with gorgeous art and wonderful music. I love the premise and there's so many different ways to play.
This game was fun! I really like the character designs and the strength of their personalities, despite how little dialogue or story is here. All the moments where everyone betrays each other are very funny to me, but it also makes the rare moments where people team back up again stand out (even if it ends back in betrayal haha). I'm not very familiar with this type of turn based game, so it did take me an embarrassingly long amount of time to figure out some of the very basic mechanics, but once I did, the rest was very intuitive
Gorgeous art-style and clever narrative to justify the main mechanic of betrayal, but brutally hard to the point where it sucks all the fun and joy from the game. You could justify it being that it's trying to make itself worth the $10AUD price tag within the length of the main game, and that would be fine, IF THERE WERE SAVE STATES. Every time you die, you go right back to the beginning of the island, and you can't make quick saves either during or between battles. I got to the point where I could reliably get through the first two battles without being hit, get a few scrapes in the forest clearing fight, and then die at some point during the final confrontation only to be thrown back to the start. I tried changing who I chose in the tutorial chapter in case I happened to pick a really difficult character, but no the game felt like it was a very similar difficulty. Combine this with the fact the same battle music plays on repeat on the island, and I felt like I was going insane. The final battle feels like the ultimate slap in the face -
After fighting off waves of undead, your party disbands, and you defeat them. So far, so fine. But then every other character in the game descends onto the battle field from both sides, and you have to kill everyone, without dying once yourself, while either on your own or with one or two units that happen to still be aligned to you.
Did I also mention that unless you play as Eleanor, you cannot heal at all for the entire game? Yeah. Good luck with that. Also, the classes and levels mean nothing. You never level up, there is no skill tree. Each character has a unique gimmick to them with really arbitrary rules: Sylvester can attack from a small range but only if he has something between him and the enemy or if he's already moved (note that enemies have no such restriction on ranged attacks), Eleanor can heal but only by healing someone else at the same time (she can't just heal herself), and Joe is the only one who actually has a mechanic which isn't annoying - he has a gun that he can shoot from as far away as you want, but only in straight cardinal directions. This game desperately needed quick-saves, or a difficulty option, or just something to reduce how much it felt like I was replaying the same battles over and over again to just get to the showdown and fail again at the finish line. I can't in good conscience recommend this to anyone but the most masochistic.
Charming game, love the concept. Do yourself a favor and pick up the game. The mutinies consistently gave me a good chuckle.
Lags like you're trying to run Skyrim on a Commodore 64... Settings don't open... Bruh...
I was surprised at how clever you have to be to achieve the ending you want; the interactions look very simple but it feels a lot like solving a puzzle. Making a careful plan from the start, putting the pieces together as you go, and seeing it pay off at the end is super rewarding! The music is awesome and the characters are hilarious!!
Short and charming! A really impressive exploration of branching-path narrative mechanics. I'm looking forward to replaying and getting a few more endings. The game reacts VERY well to all my actions; there's the (many) mutinies that are narrative-driven, but if I choose to just start a mutiny mid-fight, the narrative reacts appropriately. That's an impressive level of flexibility. Basically my only complaint is that you lose a LOT of progress if you die in the final combat; hoping the devs add an optional checkpoint near the end. Last note: the whole game is low-key quite funny! I laughed out loud when Joe Boots first showed up and I realized that yes, this pirate heist team DOES have a lonesome cowboy, and nobody's going to say that's out of place. It's a quiet note of dry absurdism that really worked for me.
Clever and fun campaign! Great music. Plays perfect on Steam Deck with touchpad controls
A really solid tactics game! While a single run is a bit short, it packs a lot of replayability in that you can complete the game with different characters, each with their own quirks that keep the combats fresh. The art is solid, the soundtrack slaps, and its overall a good time!
Very cute little srpg! The constant betrayals were very funny and the battles, though small in scale, can have a surprising amount of depth. My main complaint is that the first 2 chapters are basically an extended tutorial that you have to replay each time, and you have very few "real" battles to contend with. But the final confrontation is worth the effort!
