I was predisposed to like this first-person adventure because of the québécois setting, but I found it frustrating and somewhat primitive. Not a true 3d engine and only certain directions you could go. Not a total slide show like Myst because you could look around. Lots of invisible walls. Had to constantly consult a guide as, often, I didn't see objects that were in the dark or just not visible enough. A few puzzles were unfair and I would not have solved them without a guide. Constant loading screens going from 7 to 12 seconds. Worse on an external hard drive.
I'm really surprised this (currently, as of 10/2025) has a "Very Positive" overall review rating, considering that there are some SERIOUS flaws in the gameplay. Some minor spoilers ahead: ・The first chunk of the game is **DARK**. Like wtf-I-can't-see-anything-even-with-the-brightness-cranked-all-the-way-up-(ha!)-and-now-I-have-no-concept-of-direction-or-how-to-get-myself-out-of-this-or-that-area dark; Is-there-something-wrong-with-my-display dark; Who-designed-this-game-and-who-freaking-play-tested-and-signed-off-on-it dark; Please-dear-gods-let-there-be-light dark; Why-in-the-absolute-heck-is-there-multiple-candles-and-candelabras-and-lanterns-literally-everywhere-in-the-game-that-I-can't-pick-up-if-Light/Dark-is-a-core-element dark? I needed to resort to a walkthrough and had to be careful to avoid spoilers to find a light source as the first part of the game takes place during the night, and while I was lucky I was able to actually find the dang candle holder, the stupid candle needed to combine with it (which was maybe inches away from another clue that I did luck into picking up) made me waste about 20 minutes before I gave up and went back to the walkthrough. Unfortunately, once I combined those 2 items and could finally see what the heck I was doing, the second major flaw reared it's head: ・The interactive "hotspot" area to move forward or to pick up items, etc., is extremely small and there's often no hint or beacon or anything of the sort, so even if you know you're looking in the right area or in the right direction that's not good enough and you have to center the screen perfectly on certain things. Have fun spending 5 minutes in multiple spots moving the mouse around so you luck onto juuust the right spot to get the thing you need to move on to the next puzzle. Or to find the candle and candle holder ಠ_ಠ (Dude, are the designers just f*cking with me now? Why is the lantern not available until later in the game??). ・Oh you thought the accessibility issues were just vision based? Hahaha jokes on you, be prepared to pay *close* attention to some sounds in order to solve some puzzles too (back to the walkthrough for me)! Seriously, the "clue" for this part is a pretty big stretch and markedly different than the rest of the puzzles. ・What in the world is going on with these weird visions that are dark as all get out (again), super vague, and will leave you wondering if you missed something prior to each of them. And why are you having some of these barely lit nighttime flashbacks in the middle of the day when you step out of a house into the daylight? At least you can find some decent walkthroughs that explain *why* you're having them and then they sorta make sense, but also, were you just a witness in those memories or did you take an active part in them or what? Not a huge issue by any means, but they could have been a tad less vague in the delivery. Regardless of all the above, I *did* enjoy the game (I'm a masochist, what can I say), and it plays great on an M1 iMac with only 8GB memory, but the gameplay would have been a lot shorter (maybe 1/3 of the time I spent playing it was needless) and it would have been a fun little game at 2ish hours instead of the 3.7 it took me to complete it, but I got it on sale at a huge discount and I can't recommend it at full price ($11.99 at the time of this review). It's fun, but plays more like a demo or a game designers interactive application for a position at a large studio. ~Z
A tam i z powrotem będziemy zmuszeni iść trzy razy. The Whispering Valley mnie nieco rozczarowało. 5/10
A relatively short, solid atmospheric story game about discovering the secrets of a strange village. The puzzles and story were relatively linear, which made it easy to figure out the progression of the game, without being too challenging. The story is told mostly under the form of notes that you find through the game, which progressively clear up the story over the course of the game. I would definitely recommend the game if you like a good story and I think it is best enjoyed in one session (about 2 hours) as the tension and the scary atmosphere builds up well throughout the game, all the way until the end.

The Whispering Valley is a point 'n click adventure with fixed positions, but you can look around in 3d. Graphics are a bit low budget but things like desks and props have a good amount of details. After playing the prologue (The Whisperer), I was worried this game would be a total letdown, but it wasn't. I actually was intrigued about the story from start to finish and enjoyed playing this. You play as a priest investiging a little village after receiving a letter with a warning not to go there. So, of course he did go. And it's a horror game, so what could possibly go wrong... Well, not that much. It's very light on the horror elements. No jump scares, a bit graphic here and there. And let's say that the villagers had a reason to be afraid. Gameplay consists of finding the right objects to use in order to progress. The village is one large area and you can walk the entire end and back whenever you want. Indoor areas and certain outdoor segments do require loadings screens though and that was a bit of a bummer because you need to traverse the area a lot. It's not a difficult game. Just be sure to check every area closely. Like in the prologue, although less bad, the game doesn't hold hands. Sometimes there isn't even a cursor for spots to interact with. It's designed to let the player think about what's needed to deal with situations I guess. This can be a pro or a con depending on your taste. Overall I liked the game. It's low budget but has kept me interested. Looking forward to seeing more from this studio. By the way, voice acting is in French with either English or French subtitles. No other languages included.
Wonderfully atmospheric, great story, but I think I spent at least a third of the playtime on loading screens. Especially getting back and forth through the mill with like 3 loads in short succession. The game is still absolutely worth it, but the constant loading took me out of it.
Very enjoyable and short folk horror that doesn't rely on cheap jump scares and doesn't feel the need to drag out its story line. While it's nothing unique, it does have fun and easy game play to figure out what's going on in the village. The puzzles aren't hard and I liked the creepiness of the village and the "What was that?" moments. If you want a short story game, especially around the fall, I recommend this.
