This game is a must-play for any strategy game fan. The deep and complex storyline immerses you in the world of Trasamire. The gameplay is challenging and requires careful planning, making each victory feel earned. The graphics are stunning and bring the world to life. I particularly appreciated the historical references and attention to detail in the world-building. Overall, The Trasamire Campaigns is a fantastic experience that I highly recommend
Price paid: ~$1–$2 (almost free) I generally recommend this game, especially for the price. It’s a solid digital adaptation inspired by Risk and clearly has potential. The music is fine, the art style is good, and for $2 I definitely wasn’t expecting a Baldur’s Gate-level storyline—and that’s totally okay. As a digital board game, it works well. It’s also family-friendly and could be a good introduction for kids or beginners who are learning board games. The price and illustrations make it very accessible. Cons: The biggest issue is difficulty and balance. There are no difficulty settings, and once you understand the rules, the AI bots are extremely easy to beat. Your win rate quickly becomes 95–99% (if not 100%), which makes the game boring very fast. Another major downside is the lack of online PvP. Local split-screen PvP exists, but it has no balancing at all. In 1v1 matches (on any map size), the first player has a guaranteed win, which completely breaks competitive play. There really needs to be a balancing algorithm to address this. I’m leaving a negative review not to trash the game, but to urge the developers to fix these issues. If difficulty, balance, or PvP gets improved, I’ll happily change this to a positive review.
The Trasamire Campaigns is a thoughtfully designed indie strategy title that blends turn-based tactical gameplay with branching narrative structure and board-game sensibilities. Developed and published by Gemcutter Games, the experience is clearly shaped by a love for tabletop strategy and choice-driven storytelling rather than large-scale spectacle. From the outset, the game establishes itself as something more intimate and flexible than a traditional grand strategy title, focusing on meaningful decisions, compact battles, and stories that adapt organically to success and failure alike. The game is set in the troubled kingdom of Trasamire following the death of King Unmorr, an event that plunges the land into chaos as rival factions scramble for control. Rather than presenting a single linear campaign, the game is structured around a collection of interlinked scenarios and narrative arcs that evolve based on player actions. Each campaign unfolds differently depending on which factions rise, which battles are won or lost, and how the player responds to political and military dilemmas along the way. This structure gives the world a sense of motion and consequence, where defeat does not simply mean restarting, but instead reshapes the story into a new and often unexpected direction. Gameplay takes place on stylized maps that function like digital board games, with regions acting as both strategic objectives and sources of reinforcement. Battles are turn-based and revolve around positioning, timing, and risk management rather than micromanagement. One of the game’s defining mechanics is how armies grow and weaken based on connected territories, rewarding players who plan expansion carefully while punishing overextension. Combat outcomes incorporate an element of randomness, represented through dice-like mechanics, which introduces uncertainty and tension. This balance between strategy and chance gives battles an unpredictable edge, making even familiar encounters feel fresh, though it may occasionally frustrate players who prefer full control over outcomes. Beyond combat, The Trasamire Campaigns places significant emphasis on player choice. Narrative events frequently interrupt the flow of battles, presenting moral, political, or tactical decisions that can alter future encounters or shift alliances. These choices often carry long-term consequences, affecting which characters appear later, how factions behave, or how difficult future scenarios become. The writing leans toward a mix of seriousness and dry humor, giving personality to the world without overwhelming it with exposition. Characters feel distinct and reactive, helping the kingdom of Trasamire feel alive despite the game’s relatively modest scope. Visually, the game adopts a clean, colorful art style that prioritizes readability and clarity. Units, territories, and UI elements are easy to distinguish, which is essential given the strategic nature of the gameplay. While the visuals are not highly detailed or flashy, they suit the board-game-inspired design well and help maintain a smooth pacing. Animations are simple but effective, reinforcing actions without slowing the game down. The soundtrack and sound effects are similarly understated, providing atmosphere and feedback without becoming distracting or repetitive. One of the game’s strengths lies in its accessibility. The rules are easy to learn, and individual battles are short enough to fit comfortably into brief play sessions. At the same time, the branching campaign structure and variety of narrative outcomes give the game strong replay value. Each run through Trasamire can unfold very differently, encouraging experimentation with different strategies, decisions, and risk tolerances. Local multiplayer options, including shared-screen and Remote Play Together support, further extend its appeal by allowing players to compete or collaborate in a more social setting. That said, the game’s reliance on randomness is a double-edged sword. While it adds excitement and unpredictability, it can sometimes undermine carefully laid plans, making certain losses feel abrupt or undeserved. Additionally, players looking for deep unit customization, large-scale empire management, or highly complex systems may find the mechanics too streamlined. The Trasamire Campaigns is not about exhaustive control or endless optimization; it is about adapting to circumstances and telling emergent stories through play. Taken as a whole, The Trasamire Campaigns stands out as a charming and inventive strategy game that values choice, consequence, and replayability over raw complexity. It successfully captures the feel of a narrative-driven tabletop campaign brought to digital form, where every decision nudges the story in a new direction. For players who enjoy turn-based strategy with a strong sense of personality, manageable scope, and meaningful narrative variation, it offers a rewarding and distinctive experience that proves ambition and creativity can thrive even within a compact indie framework. Rating: 6/10
it's beautifully designed so i really wanted to like it, but it's just a dressed-up version of risk with little in the way of interesting decisions to be made. at best the game is a pale approximation of small world 2, an excellent game you can pick up here on steam.
If you love strategy games, this would be really fun for you. I love strategy games, and this game really challenges me to think about how I'm going to approach the map. I like that it has a plot, and it is a really good background story for the game. You can even choose which character to use for the fight for the throne, and I want to try them all to see if there's a difference in each character's story. It takes quite a while to get used to the mechanics, but once you get the hang of it, you'll enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, the mechanics are easy to understand; what takes a while is figuring out how to use them to your advantage. It's neither too hard nor too easy; the difficulty is set just fine. The result of a battle can be surprising; one minute you think you're about to lose, and then you get to turn it over to victory. I played as the Queen and got decimated by the uprising peasant army (just like many monarchies in reality ;P) in one of the maps. I highly recommend this. It's well polished. It's worth the price.
This is a digital boardgame similar to Risk but with a deeper ruleset. The difference is that you can break up the enemy so they get fewer reinforcements. There is a nice story that changes based on the outcome of the battles and story choices. The good: Great graphics and music. Good story. The battles are quick. The bad: Can get repetitive. Best played in short sessions.
Fun, simple RISK-styled game. Also, you can lead a peasant rebelion and play hotseat, both always great pluses.
Пошаговая тактика с механикой настолки. Весьма интересна, весьма затягивает.
It's just another variation of Risk game. No depth
