This experience can be classified as a psychological and atmospheric horror game. However... This isn't a game... Remember all of the urban legends from your childhood? Imagine if it was all real, but we just weren't performing the right rituals to summon these beings from another realm... Well, now you can...

I've posted a review of two other games by Randumb Studios that were honestly copy and pasted because those games were also copy and pasted. But this one gets its own. This game is awful. Like, really, really terrible. I'll give it a little pro first, just so show I'm not saying it's bad because I want to drag it down. It has some interesting information that was apparently compiled from various sources. It says from books, but I think it was probably gathered by a few quick Google searches, but whatever, it was still fun to read. It gives you an actual ghost to focus on, and she's alright. Mostly I liked the poems it wrote. They were pretty fun. Now on to the bad. First, the simple stuff. This game gets crazy repetitive. Like, they actually copy pasted like 15% of it. You read the exact same text box over and over. The absolute most annoying one for me is the constant insistence that THIS IS NOT A GAME. Honestly, methinks the game doth protest too much. It's eye rolling, not spooky. Next, the voice of the game, as in the one who is supposed to be talking do you, is a ♥♥♥♥. There's nothing wrong with a sassy narrator, but this isn't sassy, it's just rude. It seems that the person writing it was really just trying to be edgy. It was trying to be this cool and sassy narrator, but instead was just annoying. Like that one kid in middle school who tries so hard to convince you the bathroom is haunted and pretending they aren't scared of this stupid stuff when like...it's not real. Like, calm down Harold. The writing just...isn't good. Whoever was writing needs to be reminded of what wordiness is and why it's a bad idea to have too much of it. Second is the more important stuff. I genuinely think this game can be harmful for people who aren't as skeptical as I am. There are too many instances of saying this or that is caused by a haunting. This and that are symptoms of actual mental health problems. If you feel great anxiety going out of your house, even when your family is going and you really want to join them, you are NOT haunted. You likely have social anxiety and very possibly have agoraphobia and need to deal with that for what it is. If you feel horribly dredged down sometimes, if you get horrible depression that seems to come out of nowhere, YOU ARE DEPRESSED and you need to find a proper way to cope with that. It's not ghosts, it's mental health and it needs to be treated as such. It's one thing if these were just a part of the game, but it's constant insistence that IT'S NOT A GAME is what makes it so dangerous. Mental health is not a toy, it isn't something to use to try and convince people of your stupid ghosty haunty game. As someone with a few diagnosis with symptoms that are used for the amusement of the people who made this game, I give them a big F*CK YOU. Lastly, it sells itself like chain mail. Like, okay, yeah, you have to have someone else go through these things so you don't dieeeee! It's a shill to sell more games and I think that's absolutely ridiculous and honestly a little scummy. Basically, I understand that this is supposed to be borderline parody, I really do. But it stops being funny once you've used the same joke five times in a game that takes less than an hour to play. And once again, because this is the most important thing to me, MENTAL HEALTH IS NOT A GAME. If you have the symptoms they describe in this game, talk to people, do some research, and if you're able find a therapist. You are not haunted and there are ways to help you cope and overcome this that don't include turning off all the lights and lying in the dark for ten minutes.
Noooooope. Nope. Nope nope nope. Call me chicken, don't care. Nope. Tried it again after writing this. Got a little further, chickened out. Work in progress. UPDATE: Finished it. Felt like it was something I had to do. Very uneasy feeling by the end even after it's done.
I am mad. Honestly, like mad. Seriously. This game is a chain mail basically and would be really fun if they gave a warning somewhere for people like me with OCD or reality distortion. Now, I'm being compelled to find some poor smuck to curse... I mean to enjoy this adorable and fun creepy adventure!!! Grab some snacks and settle in for a great party game! The more smucks.... I mean friends the merrier and I would now as my name is Merry! The atmosphere is so fun and immersive it will feel like you've booted up a digital version of Jumanji that involves nothing but blood and demons. Actually, some dolls too but I adore dolls and had at least 30 of my collection watching me as I completed this game. So verrry fun and if my glowing review has convinced you to play and you've completed it in its entirety would you please let me know your name :) so I can feel accomplished (and also finish my ritual) Thank you! Honestly, I would feel less anxiety if you would let me have your name so I can assure my OCD that the people I love won't die. I am aware this is a game but my OCD disagrees. Pros: Music fun, graphics cute. Cons: Bad for people with mental health issues of all types.
I played through this "Game" twice. The first time, I just read through it but didn't complete any of the actual "In Real Life" tasks. Then... I noticed things started... happening... Now, I'm a very sceptical person. I typically don't believe in "spirits" or "ghosts" and the such. But... I decided to give this game another try and actually perform the tasks as intended... I can't explain what started to happen around me and in my home, including experiences my family started to have... I wish I could explain it, but I can't... Could it be a coincidence? Sure. IS it a coincidence? I sure hope so... Play at your own risk if you believe in the supernatural... I usually don't, but this game might have convinced me it's real...
Just started playing this game and it's a very unique game. It's very psychological and gripping and I like that it's more immersive and interactive than just perhaps sitting at your desk and playing through the game (by means of the tasks etc). I don't scare very easily but the game certainly gave me an uneasy feeling and was very creepy. Thoroughly enjoyable, would recommend giving it a go!
I thought this game was going to be dumb the first five minutes in. Turns out its actually real, Not sleeping tonight. Also gifting this to my friends so they can suffer with me
Take a stroll into any historic town and you're almost guaranteed to see tours highlighting the town's mysterious and sometime heinous past. These tours provide not only a guided journey through the lives of previous notable citizens, but a chance to discover an otherworldly experience that will broaden the horizon what you choose to believe. But what if you didn't need the help of a guide to communicate with the dead? What if, instead of traveling to visit the dead, they were with you all along? Grab a pen and paper, a mirror, and turn off every light, and indulge in the instructions of The Summoning. This RPG Maker constructed psychological horror experience tasks you with a spattering of rituals to perform either by yourself, or with friends. These rituals are to be performed exactly as instructed, for fear of the ritual not working, or the spirits you've awakened not being controlled as you hope. When dealing with supernatural spirits, it is imperative to follow everything to the finest detail, for you are never sure who will heed your call...or what they plan to do once they've answered. For the uninitiated, The Summoning is essentially a “ghost-tour” experience on your PC. You're able to freely walk around the house area, and inspect various items strewn about. These items will give insight on past spiritual experiences people have witnessed, which The Summoning boasts some decadently creepy writing to wind the room into a tense grip. These scrolls of text, alongside fleeting binaural sounds and some blink-and-you'll-miss-it graphic misdirection, directly tie into the main rituals you're given to complete. These rituals are not done in game, but through physical means in your own home. Drawing Occult signs on paper, reciting rites into mirrors, and letting the spirits take a deep dive into your mind await those who accept the responsibilities that lay before them. Did I experience anything during my hour run through The Summoning? Personally, no. But these experiences are different among every person that decides to dip their foot in the proverbial water. If you don't buy into supernatural occurrences and the creepy appeal of spirits and afterlife: don't bother. But if you do, The Summoning will do a decent job in establishing an unsettling atmosphere that will have you second guess your wants to connect with the dead, especially when what you do may keep them around for much longer than you hoped for. I didn't like this game as much as this dev's quiz games. It had a nice little atmosphere (though I think it went a bit too hard on the "THIS IS REAL" stuff) but at the end it didn't really feel like anything had happened.
Tedious. Takes itself a bit too seriously.
I think this game lives up to the psychological horror genre, but the end was a bit... well, it crossed a line. It made me feel a bit uncomfortable and I think that's good. Focusing on the legends and stuff, I think it's pretty interesting and it made me feel bad for the lady. That's just my nature I guess. Then focusing on the mental disorders as mentioned in game. I think it's wrong to modify set definitons of mental disorders, because it can confuse people and/or teach them wrong information about them. As a person who went through depression I know for sure, that mental disorders are not caused by evil spirits and such, for that reason, it's a bit insulting. And I am holding myself back with that statement. I would reccomend this game, because of the atmosphere. If you really enjoy being a bit scared this is a game just for you, but please keep in mind, no matter what they tell you, this is just a game and I hope you can be a little sceptical about it. That's for your own safety.
