The Sea Between is fantastic RPG with great music, a good atmosphere, interesting characters, and a surprisingly emotional storyline. As far as RPGMaker games go, this is definitely one of, if not, the best I've played. The game feels like a mixture between Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem, with a focus on the different nations and the politics between them, and the relationships of the main characters. Every game has its own unique atmosphere, and this one definitely has its own, as well. It's very polished, and I can tell a great deal of effort and love was put into it. The music is absolutely incredible, and definitely a highlight of the game. It's very emotional, deep, and moving. It contains a lot of piano tunes that are a treat to listen to. The Sea Between is a true masterpiece, and I look forward to seeing what comes next from Evil Bunny Studios.
RECOMMENDED Ratings 7/10 (Enjoyable and Well-made) "The Sea Between" is another well-made and enjoyable RPG Maker game by an independent developer. My only complaint is that it is a bit short, but even so, I had 38 hours of fun, playing it twice. This game also have a few very nicely made puzzles to tease your brain as well. The story is moving, about how the main hero discovering who he really is. I love this game because it pays attention to all the little details to make a beautiful RPG Maker game world. There is also a lot of opportunities for grinding as well, which I love. It is interesting that there is a level cap of 25 levels. I did not fully understand the level cap until I finished the game. It is then that I realized that the villain did not really die, and perhaps that is why there is a level cap of 25 so that it would pave the way for a sequel to this wonderful RPG. Keep up the great work, and I really look forward to a sequel.
Highly recommended for any JRPG fans, especially those who enjoyed the SNES era gaming. The Sea Between has a immersive story, beautiful OST, and fantastic gameplay. Definitely worth the asking price!
This game is charming and sweet. The story line is interesting and the gameplay is fairly simple but not boring! I know it's the designer's first game and I appreciated the little cute meta touches like finding the little cove of "argh making a game is hard" book title puns.
The Sea Between is a fantastic homage to classic JRPGs. Visually, it's an extremely bright, clean-looking game, with thoughtfully-built tiles using assets from RPG Maker and independent artists. The combat system is classic, and it challenges you enough to encourage exploring synergistic abilities so that you don't fall into the old RPG trap of just spamming 'Attack' over and over again. The music used is charming and beautiful. All of these details are wonderful, but the game's greatest strength is its story. You begin the game as Vis, a wide-eyed protagonist who feels familiar without falling on pastiche. When Vis' previously-peaceful hometown finds itself the target of monster attacks, he is pulled into a quest to find the source and put a stop to it. The mysteries you unravel, and Vis' part in them, are well-plotted, and the game builds to a strong climax and the promise of more. If the strength of this game is its story, it stands on the back of its characters. Their voices are strong, written with real humour and, at times, genuine pathos. This includes the party members who join you along the way -- who are all undergoing their own personal arcs -- but also those who populate the world as well. The unnamed world of The Sea Between is incredibly well fleshed out; its characters, communities, and history make it feel lived-in without verging on excessively complicated or too self-referential. All of them work together to tell a rich story about the connection between ourselves and the people we look up to, and it's well worth the purchase.
I tried very hard to like this and persevere with it, but ultimately didn't finish it, since it was more frustrating than enjoyable. Enemies were very tedious, and you do need to fight a decent number of them rather than just running away. I've never needed to grind so early in a game! Random encounters were relentless and dull to fight through. The lack of save points made things worse; Majoha Temple was particularly annoying because it took hours to do the whole thing and there were no save points within, which meant exiting the temple at the end of every session and triggering more random encounters. The other negative was the female Adelyse being referred to as "Sir", which was as odd and irritating as it would have been calling her "Mister"! Everything else about the game was good, but the endless repetitive fighting made it too tedious to enjoy, and unfortunately, I doubt I'll finish it.
Great jrpg so far its your classic turned based game with a good story to follow so far if you liked old school final fantasy then your gonna like this
I love what I've played so far (Up to the point when you head to Vawn)! The writing's great and the combat is classic but fun. Aside from the start when you only have Vis in the party, you don't really end up feeling the need to spam "Attack" all the time, and I really like that! My only real complaint so far is that the game doesn't really give you much feedback about enemy weaknesses/resistances. If I can leave a suggestion, there's a plugin for RMMV from SRDude called the "Popup Status Customizer" which you can make text pop up under certain conditions, such as a target being hit by an element they're weak to or resist. I'd love to see that used in a future update if it's compatible with the rest of the plugins you used. Aside from that, I absolutely love this game so far! I highly recommend at least trying it out! Update: Arrived at Majoha Temple and the combat really shines in that battle against the Mimic on the second floor. I actually found myself using the status skills like Provoke, which I don't end up doing very often in games like this. I applaud you for being able to make the combat this engaging!
This is a fun game with a cute story line. It's shorter than I thought it would be but still fun to play.
I really enjoyed The Sea Between. The gameplay was fun and challenging. The story was immersive and the world and characters were very well developed. It's obvious that a lot of love and care was put into the game.
