This was an interesting little game. As usual, the plot is completely disconnected from what you're actually doing. The plot is that as a good member of your village and a true believer in the goddess Yemanjá, you want to help prepare for a village festival but the entire village is traumatized by various losses and deaths. You take quests from them, solve their problems and get them back in the festival mood. You do this by, uh, platforming underwater. You put on a big clunky diving suit and stomp around underwater a while, collecting coins and pages of ... something? possibly your motivational speech? ... and then you come back up out of the water and deliver the speech when you have all the pages. It's a relaxing, soothing sort of game with some very chunky DOS-game-esqe pixel art. If you have fond memories of shareware titles of the mid-to-late nineties, you're probably going to enjoy the visuals and music here. The game starts out feeling quite difficult, but upgrading your suit soon has you zipping around the seafloor double-jumping and throwing nets over sea life and just generally storming the levels. There is a bug or glitch you can exploit, where if you take a quest and then use your "memories" box in the ship's hold to replay an earlier level, you finish the quest you were on. This can be useful if you're stuck on a harder level -- just pop down to the hold and replay an easier level instead. It can feel a little cheaty and it might get patched, but I'm not here to judge anyone. It's not your college exams or resume. You're not hurting anyone. Cheat as you like. Anyway I found this pretty engaging and it gave me a morning's worth of entertainment plus it got me researching a goddess I'd never heard of while music from the game looped in my head. All missions accomplished, I think. The devs can be proud of this one.
Fan of platformers? Don't play this game then, it's an insult to the genre. As of writing this review, I have not finished the game, but plan to in the future and will update my review to reflect when I have. So, first off the story. The story is pretty basic, and doesn't keep me engaged in any way, especially because the gaemplay has nothing to do with the story. In order to help people believe in Yemanja again you need to... find books on the bottom of the ocean? and then whern you come back, the books have nothing to do with the solution to their problem as your character just explains the situation to them. Why couldn't he do that before jumping around the ocean floor? The music is the most redeeming quality of the game to be honest, it's fine. It didn't really bother me and fit quite well but I'd never listen to it outside of the game. Eventually I got tired of it and muted the game in favor of my own music however. The actual gameplay, which is platforming around the ocean floor, is the worst part of this game. The controls are very floaty, and a huge issue is that your jump is always the same height, regardless of how long you are holding the jump button. This means you better be committed to the jump or you're screwed. Also makes the jump upgrades almost a downgrade, because you jump higher without the option to go lower. This results in you flying to the moon for every small ledge you need to jump up, and I hit many things I should not have hit from it. Level design is decent, but there is never an explanation for anything, so you just have to assume everything will kill you and avoid it. The crabs blow bubbles that kill you. Yes, the very same thing that is all around us (AIR) also hurts you. The double jump upgrade is the most helpful upgrade you can have and makes the platforming waaaay easier, but once again you can't cancel and falling is pretty damn slow so you're usually spending a lot of time floating around hoping you aren't gonna hit anything. Lastly, a couple small nitpicks. When in the overworld, there is never any prompt to show that you can interact with something, so I usually walked around spamming spacebar to see if I could search barrels, or interact with things like the lighthouse. When transitioning screens (which also has no indicator, meaning often I didn't know if I could go somewhere or not until I ran into it) your momentum isn't carried over, so for example if I weas walking downward and changed screens I would need to lift my finger and press down again to keep walking because you stop moving on new screens. overall 3/10, and a lot could be fixed if the controls were less floaty and objectives made more clear. Update: Finished the game, complaints still valid. Although I learned the Manta suit starts with a double jump, so definintely pick that instead of the other craptastic one.

In short, Queen of Seas 2 is a simple retro platformer, with some heavy subjects and great soundtrack. Although the player's overworld speed is a bit slow for my taste, I'm sure that was the purpose. Got a lot of relax vibes, to enjoy the ride. Even so, I think a "run" button would have been nice, for those who like to GO FAST!!! Since I'm talking about the game's world, I loved the sidequests, especially "When life gives you lemons". There's a decent amount of stuff to explore, which is nice. About the suits, the new one is faster and jumps higher than the old suit, great for those who like mobility. The old one is good for late-game stages, since it has more health upgrades and can get almost as good as the new one, but it requires you to grid a little bit before getting to that point. Both get acess to double jump and net throwing if you buy the upgrade for it, so the old one is better overall, but I prefer the new suit because of its mobility right from the get-go. Also loved the ending, really felt good when I finished the game. I'm not spoiling it, though. The story, while somewhat dark, was a nice feel to it. Good presentation, overall. The soundtrack is also good, especially the emotional pieces. You can almost feel the story within them. I definitely recommend this game, it's cheap considering everything it has to offer.

"Queen of Seas 2" is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This Brazilian diving themed platformer has a lightweight "adventure game" frontend as you move around various Brazilian coastal scenes, then put on a diving suit and do some really, really bad platforming. Like, Cuphead/Super Meat Boy, Hollow Knight, this is very very far from. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing or polish done. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Queen of Seas 2" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
This game is MUCH better than the prequel, seriously, don't bother getting QoS 1. Queen of Seas 2 is an almost mario like platformer with some upgrades reminiscent of the late 00s flash games. The story is kind of meh, but its got an overworld and a few quests that are fun little things. Plainly, this game has content, and while not an amazing game, it's entertaining enough to warrant playing. If you are into trying new indie platformers, for $1 I think you might like it. I didn't enjoy the grinding for all the gear, but at the same time, you're able to beat the levels without the gear. The only complaint I have is that the game starts you off SO SLOW, but once you get the upgrades you're golden. This is a show of progress from the dev and I commend them for this. The game is original and someone put work and effort into making it, and it shows.
