The Sand Knight

This is a really well made game. I am not normally an arcade-like game player. I haven't been since the 90's when I was a kid. But this is a blast to play and easy to lose yourself in. It's very polished, and has some great though put into the gameplay, like environmental things that can aid you. For example, destroying support columns in a cave sends down chunks of ceiling onto the surrounding area, allowing you to really gain the upper hand against a flood of enemies. The only thing that isn't as good as it could be is the voice acting. Easily a 9/10 though.

This game is alot of fun! If you like fast paced retro style shooters or games where you pilot a mech then this is a game for you. This game comes out of the gate turned up to 9 and finishes at 11. When you finish this game you'll want to start again just to see how much better you can do on the next run. Eat your heart out Armored Core 6.

Came for the narrative, stayed for the explosions. There are a lot of cool Easter eggs in this game, and little attentions to detail that set the level design apart. You'll enjoy challenging yourself (and yelling a little as your pilot panics at the 80+ bullets coming your way - seriously, there's a reason it's called "bullet hell"). Overall, its a great launch game from an indie studio. Also pro-tip: big boss rooms = all the missiles. Dash swiftly, friends.

Sand Knight is a satisfying retro 16-bit style bullet hell from the 90's with a campaign which can be a bit challenging. Just the way I like it. It remains me of some of the classic bullet hell's from my childhood. I find that I had an even better time trying to get the top score in the arena battle mode. I got to level 8 wave 10 with a score of 22675. I am sure that I can do even better next time. I enjoyed the combat system and upgrade mechanics. The story and music have a good charm to them. The developers even have some interesting level mechanics/design as well. Worth a pickup. I want to see some more levels in some kind of DLC at some point in the future. I would recommend.

Had a blast playing this game! Upgrading your mech, mowing down enemies, and stomping on baddies when your guns overheat never gets old. You can even up the challenge by hopping out of your mech and taking down enemies on foot. Still, my favorite parts are the boss fights, I'm a sucker for a good boss fight and these don't disappoint. Also, the retro theme is well done, 10-year old me would have loved to have a game like this on the NES, it's the perfect companion for a snow day like today!

The Sand Knight is exactly what its store page advertises: a frantic mech-based twin stick shooter-style game with exciting combat. Despite its appearance as a twin stick game, the gameplay is the most fun with mouse and keyboard. The UI is occasionally a little rough around the edges, but the core game is absolutely solid and with an amount and variety of content that may surprise you. There are tons of different enemy types, interesting boss fights, different biomes, and lots of upgrade options for your mech. You can even hop out of your mech and run-and-gun as a little pilot. If you're looking for a pixel art bullet hell / action game, you'll probably have a lot of fun with The Sand Knight.

[/h2] [b] Pros: [/b] -Fun Retro Graphics - They look great and all fit together. -Great Controls - I never felt like I was cheated when attacking or dodging. -Excellent elaborate upgrade system - This was so good. You were able to really improve your mech and see yourself do more damage than before. Which you really need because the levels have great progression of enemies that the extra firepower and speed really come in handy. -Ability to leave the mech (by choice, or by explosion), there are some parts of levels that are only accessible out of the mech, which is kind of a Blaster Master throw back. -Most of what you see on the map can be interacted with or destroyed. -Good game length A few times I found myself losing my mech, but then I was able to keep fighting as a person where I could roll to avoid fire and I was able to earn another mech back, which I thought was a great touch. [b] Cons [/b] -I really wish this game had a New Game +. After I finished the game I really wanted to continue upgrading my mech to see just how powerful I could get it to be. I don't think additional content is necessarily needed, but give me a chance to jump back in that mech and level until I max it out. Then I could speed run the game while annihilating everything in sight. -I really loved the upgrade system, but because it was so elaborate, you could really screw yourself. I upgraded my machine guns a few times. Then I decided I wanted to try out the flame thrower. But because my machine guns were so powerful, swapping one of my two machine guns for my weak flame thrower really screwed me. I was able to make it to the next upgrade where I changed back to using two machine guns. I really recommend this game! It would be great to see another in the series or get an update for New Game +. The Sand Knight is a 2d pixel art mech shooter with a lot of care put into it. Controlling the mech is really satisfying. Basically the player has 2 weapon slots that are controlled by the left and right mouse buttons. It was really fun to take out ranged enemies with a machine gun on one arm and dealing with closer enemies with an energy sword on the right arm. Before playing I didn't expect to find a full on upgrade system in the game. After progressing a little into the story and purchasing a few upgrades the combat really picks up. The difficulty curve is spot on. Combat can often feel frantic but always fair. I recommend this game if you are into old school pixel art style games with fast and satisfying combat.
