After playing another Tonguc Bodur game, I realized this developer creates a type of gaming environment I love. Went and purchased all the rest and am excited to play them. The Redress of Mira, which I'm less than 2 hrs in, is thoroughly enchanting so far. Definitely going to be keeping an eye on this publisher's future games. Edit: Have played through the game a few times now and am blown away. Kudos on the story writing, music, voice acting, and world building. Cannot wait for the next part of the story!
If somebody should ask me if I was a fan of Bodur I'd rather say rather yes than no, but I never thought that I'd give a recommendation to get one of the games on full price. The Redress of Mira is truly exceptional game by him not being short and simple title with few beautiful visuals and pretty story, but taking actually few hours to complete. I have a feeling that dev invested a lot for this game and it shows up! The story is nothing out of unoriginal, but is delivered well enough to keep things interesting. First up Mira, the protagonist is furiously chasing another young lady across the medieval landscape and then story takes a classic rewind sequence and the timeline is set few days before. The story takes place in a feudal fantasy land where rich feast and poor try to survive. The world is filled with mysterious animals not forgetting astonishing landscapes like dreamy valleys and cozy villages, that are the developer's bravura. I also felt The Redress of Mira much more wholesome experience than a walking sim for the tasks vary a lot from simple walking to platforming, from item finding to object pushing. There is also a couple of spooky parts as well. Among all that you also find books spread out through the game which tell you each character's backgrounds and motive why they are here and while solution is simple it is working good enough and text is comforting even saucy sometimes. Although it might promise even too much the game can offer in the end for somehow the conclusion was rushed and quite mono dimensional, that made me sneer a bit, but on the other hand perhaps we get to see the another part of the tale in some even more upgraded game. And I say upgraded for The Redress of Mira is already a huge upgrade from dev's past games and I hope that this trend is emerging. It still isn't the jackpot I am eager to see but I lift it all the way up to the second best of the franchise, in the middle of Lucid Cycle and Bottle: Pilgrim Redux, dropping Finding the Soul Orb from the podium.
A fine little walking sim with a few moments of combat, platforming and puzzling, all more-or-less made by one guy. It's nice to see him pass much of the writing duties off to someone else this time, which helps keep his overlong pseudo-philisophical mumbo-jumbo prose to a minimum. Tonguc's games are not for everyone but for those of us who enjoy a pleasant little walk through beautiful landscapes, he hits the mark far more often than he doesn't.
Lovely, as always. Interesting (albeit simple) puzzle mechanics, and even a little swordplay. Engaging story.
Though I got this for free, it will not impact my review of the game. Redress of Mira is the twentieth game released on Steam by Tonguç Bodur. This is probably in my top 3 for games by Tonguç Bodur, up to this point. This game introduces many new mechanics for his games, and brings in a lot of old ones too, to make the most complete package of any game by him up to this point. The visuals in this are fantastic as per usual for Tonguç Bodur's games. The music this time around is phenomenal. There were several times when I was looking at a beautiful view or solving a puzzle and some music started playing and it hit me just right. There is a story this time around that starts and ends with cutscenes, and to get the rest you have to rely mostly on books scattered around the areas. The fact that combat is optional (there's a god mode toggle in the menus) is perfect for a game like this, because many of Tonguç Bodur's fans are walking simulator fans that come from his past works, so this is a good compromise that allows fans to relax if they want, or partake in the combat if not. The platforming is actually really good when it's there. I never felt like I was fighting the game itself to properly do the platforming. Some of the bad in this game would be the fact that boss fights are all just copy and pasted, which, for a game of this length is kind of annoying, as it's very noticeable when you're doing them. Pushing boxes for certain puzzles is overly slow, which happens a couple times throughout the game. The crosshair doesn't really point where your projectile is actually going to go, so if you don't learn how to properly aim with it, you will miss a lot of shots in fights and puzzles. Lack of animation/animation that isn't believable at times, but that's mostly rare and doesn't affect much of the experience. This is mostly something I think would affect new players and might give them a worse expectation/experience if they judge things like this harshly. Overall, if you're a fan of Tonguç Bodur, I'd recommend picking this up. If you're not a fan, I still think this is worth your time if you like indie games and/or walking simulators. This game takes about 5ish hours to complete, so if you don't think about 5 hours is worth $10, then wait for a sale.
It's all right. Tonguc Bodur tried some new stuff in this game, like a bit of combat (which sadly sucks) and some okish platforming and climbing vines in third person. The third person animations are quite bad though. Story is ok but except for the short and the unmeaning introduction is only told via books you can find. There are a lot of them and each contains multiple pages, so there is a lot of (optional) reading involved in this game. If you don't properly look around everwhere you can miss books and therefore maybe miss crucial parts of the story, which is an odd decision from the dev.
Enjoyed playing this a lot, and I loved that the story is told entirely through the books you find as you progress, it really fits the fairytale feeling. The atmosphere, lighting, and scenery are all so lovely, and exploring the world is honestly my favorite part in walking sims like these I don’t know if it’s possible, but I would love if the dev added a 3rd person mode for this game.
