That was very cute. Loved every second of it. If you are looking for a game for one night (even though with new update you can spend more time) then this game is for you. Very well done, beautiful scenery, adorable dogs and amazing VA. I got it for free, but will gift this to someone probably. Oh, also.. I wish I could adopt Iggy and Stilton, absolute mvps!!
Cute game and a really fun idea, but really falls off on the execution. The RNG is the sole biggest issue with this game. Decisions don't matter and scripted encounters will often leave you without the resources you need to progress. The game tries to be a rogue-like without any of the good features of a roguelike. There is little variety in encounters, and most of the time you will have a run ended outside of your control, receive an item that completely solves the thing that killed you out of your control, then repeat until you beat the game. The story is great, and learning the dogs backgrounds is cute, but there's not much game to be had.
Not the greatest game but a good game if you wanna calm your mind and dont wanna play something rough

The Red Lantern is a relaxing adventure game with a beautiful art style and a peaceful atmosphere that makes exploring the Alaskan wilderness beautiful. The visuals are excellent, creating an experience that feels cozy and emotional. Taking care of your sled dogs and progressing through the journey gives the game plenty of charm. However, the gameplay can become a bit boring over time, as many activities start to feel repetitive and the pacing is quite slow. Some runs don't offer enough variety to keep every moment engaging. Even though, the game is still worth trying for players who appreciate atmospheric games and don't mind a more calm experience.
Every Dog Has a Story
I got The Red Lantern for free, thinking it would just be a simple dog sledding game. I wasn't expecting much beyond traveling through the snow with a team of dogs, but it ended up surprising me in the best way. It's actually built like a roguelite, with random encounters, unexpected events, and choices that can lead to completely different outcomes. Sometimes you get rewarded for exploring, sometimes you get injured, and sometimes things just don't go the way you planned. It kept each run feeling fresh. The biggest highlight for me was definitely the dogs. Each one has its own personality, and you can tell just from the way they stand, move, and react to the world. They all have their own stories, and somehow the game manages to give each dog a character arc. I ended up adopting every dog because I wanted to learn all of their stories, and watching both the dogs and the protagonist grow throughout the journey made the game surprisingly heartwarming. I also liked that you can spend time taking care of your team. Feeding the dogs, petting them, and simply spending time with them made them feel like real companions instead of just gameplay mechanics. Those little moments added a lot to the experience. After around 3-4 hours, the runs can start to feel a little repetitive, but occasionally I'd still come across a new encounter, or even make the same choice and somehow get a different outcome. That unpredictability kept me going a bit longer than I expected. I got the game for free, and I definitely don't regret giving it a chance. I probably wouldn't recommend buying it at full price, but if it goes on sale, I think it's well worth picking up. It's a cozy little roguelite full of dogs and adventure.
