I have a love and hate relationship with this game. In some ways, it’s wonderful, and in others, not so much. This review covers how the game works based on my experience, along with my own opinions to help with your purchase decision.
[b]Money Making[/b]
There are three main ways to make money: competitions, horse auctions, and farming/ranching. Competitions are the most obvious and are required to progress the story and unlock future horse breeds and variants, but early and mid-game they give you under 3K and take the longest.
Horse auctions, however, are incredibly lucrative. Even a horse bought at auction will sell for more if you win competitions with them. I spent most of the game breeding generations of horses, primarily from wild horses to cut costs (capitalism!), and easily reached 100K+ this way. The downside is that it takes time, although I personally enjoy it.
Farming and ranching are decent passive income, but they’re the least engaging part of the gameplay loop for me. You essentially place crops in the correct season and return later to harvest them; ranching works similarly with animal feed, eggs, and fur. It requires little input for a decent return, but nowhere near as much as horse selling. Its biggest benefit is leaving you free to focus on your horses. I mostly use farming to avoid buying harvestables directly from the Farmer NPC.
[b]Horse Training & Competitions[/b]
The only actual race type is cross-country. Festivals occasionally offer a barrel-style flexibility competition, but these happen roughly every two weeks. I understand why people wish there were other disciplines like dressage, especially since multiple competition types could have made the game stand out.
Because there’s only one main race type, there’s little reason to seriously strategize around horse training and skills. This makes the game accessible for casual players, but without difficulty customization, it can also become boring.
Training is mostly a time investment rather than an active activity. You can put horses or foals in the training corral and let them train themselves, but this takes a long time and is extremely hands-off. Adult horses can use specialty arenas like the Speed or Flexibility Arena, which drain stamina quickly and let you finish training in under a minute. Riding your horse around can also train them, but it’s slow and becomes impractical with multiple horses.
Honestly, none of these options feel particularly satisfying. The training corral requires you to basically tab out and wait, while the specialty arenas feel like you magically increased your horse’s stats rather than actually trained them. Riding is potentially more fun, but quickly becomes repetitive and time-consuming.
[b]NPCs[/b]
The NPCs are one of the weaker parts of the game. Their 2D designs and portraits are adorable, but their 3D models are uncanny, and the only interactable NPCs are shopkeepers. NPCs have very little impact beyond buying and selling. Their quests are essentially fetch quests, and there’s no real way to get to know them through horse-related activities. They have a relationship bar, but the only real interaction is a once-a-day “chat.” There are no long-term relationship goals, romance options, or meaningful changes from befriending them.
[b]Horse Care & Breeding[/b]
This is where the game truly shines.
The horses are beautiful and well-made, with tons of colors and markings. The best part is breeding them and seeing what combinations you get, then taking those horses into competitions and showing them off.
Horses have personality traits, but most have minimal gameplay impact. Some can improve skills, competition earnings, or collectible harvesting, but they don’t do much to make horses feel fundamentally different. They’re mostly the same horse in different colors. Personally, I enjoy the brushing and stall-cleaning activities, so traits that remove those tasks aren’t particularly useful to me.
Breeding does have a real purpose. Each generation can increase a horse’s skill tier based on its parents, breeding is required for certain achievements, and some coat variations can only be obtained through breeding. Foals also inherit aspects of their parents’ skills.
The breeding system honestly feels a lot like a fashion/dress-up game. The horse is essentially the same “character,” but you can create different “outfits” through genetics, rare combinations, and careful breeding. I find this incredibly fun, especially alongside the customization options.
[b]Customization[/b]
There’s no difficulty customization, but there’s plenty of customization for horses and your character.
You can dye manes and tails, change hairstyles, alter tack, add blankets, and more. Your player character can also have their hair and appearance changed at any time. You can buy additional horse and human customization from shopkeepers, save outfits, and create special competition outfits.
Like breeding, this game often feels like a fashion/dress-up game, and I enjoy that aspect. Customization also gives you a reason to earn money so you can buy the things you want.
[b]Regions: Environment & Trail Rides[/b]
The game has several regions, including a sandy coastline, a meadow filled with sheep and wildflowers, and a dense pine forest with rabbits. Each region has unique collectibles, wild horse traits, a specialty arena, and its own music track. And speaking of music: music GOOD! Music also repetitive. End of music discussion.
Collecting items is somewhat annoying early on because you repeatedly have to dismount, pick things up, and remount. Later, pets can collect items for you while you remain on horseback. The unique collectibles do give you reasons to keep visiting different regions.
The trail rides themselves are more mixed. I initially found them charming, but the more I played, the more I noticed how much empty space there is. The regions are visually distinct and have different purposes, but they often feel more focused on size than meaningful design. There aren’t many memorable landmarks beyond the shopkeeper house, arenas, and wild horse pen.
For example, a pond with frogs and lily pads that you ride across via stepping stones feels memorable. But if you encounter endless copy-pasted ponds, none of them feel particularly meaningful. The environments are pretty, but they can become repetitive.
[b]Wild Horses[/b]
Wild horses are an alternative to auctions and can be found in almost every unlocked region except town. You can purchase upgrades that increase their skill tiers as you progress, meaning wild horses remain relevant throughout the game. Each region also has its own wild horse traits.
Wild horses have historically been a little buggy. Before the most recent update, you had to corral them one at a time. As of this review on 9/11/2026, you can now corral entire herds, and they stay at your horse’s pace.They can still get stuck on things, especially in dense areas, so some finagling is occasionally required.
The taming process is straightforward: find a herd, herd it into the pen, interact with each horse to learn its traits, then choose whether you want one. Herds disappear after a horse is chosen. I personally find this pretty fun, even when it bugs out. You can also rescue sick horses from the wild, which makes it easier to become emotionally invested in them.
[b]Conclusion[/b]
This game is great for people who love horses, dress-up, and don’t mind a time investment or a casual playstyle. Even if you only enjoy one of those things, you’ll probably find something to like.
Compared to other horse games, it depends on what you want. This game focuses exclusively on cross-country, while others often focus on flat racing or different aspects of horse management. I think this game is especially good if you enjoy breeding, genetics, cross-country, and customization.
