The Purge Day is a virtual reality horror shooter that reflects both the ambition and the limitations of early VR game design. Developed and published by Red Limb Studio, the game places players in a bleak, alien-ravaged world where civilization has collapsed almost overnight. You step into the role of Jack Bowman, an ordinary man caught in an extraordinary catastrophe, driven forward by the desperate need to survive and reunite with his wife. The narrative framing is simple and direct, serving primarily to give context to the relentless action rather than to unfold a deeply layered story. From the outset, The Purge Day leans heavily on immersion as its core strength. Experiencing the game in VR heightens tension significantly, as enemies approach from all directions and force constant awareness of your surroundings. Sound design plays an important role here, with alien noises, weapon effects, and environmental cues creating a sense of urgency and threat. The ruined urban environments, loosely inspired by densely populated Asian cityscapes, reinforce the feeling of a world overwhelmed by an unstoppable invasion, even if the environmental storytelling itself remains fairly sparse. Gameplay is built around fast-paced, wave-based combat. Rather than encouraging exploration or puzzle solving, the game focuses on survival, positioning, and accuracy as increasingly aggressive enemies flood the battlefield. Players have access to a variety of weapons, and mastering their handling in VR is key to staying alive. Boss encounters punctuate the progression, acting as skill checks that test endurance and situational awareness more than tactical creativity. While the combat can be intense and satisfying in short bursts, the repetition of enemy waves and limited variation in encounter design can eventually wear thin, especially during longer play sessions. Visually, The Purge Day opts for functional clarity over detail. Enemy models and environments are straightforward, prioritizing smooth performance and comfort over graphical sophistication. This approach makes sense given the game’s origins during an earlier phase of VR development, where maintaining stable frame rates and reducing motion sickness were critical design concerns. However, the trade-off is a presentation that can feel dated, with simple textures, basic animations, and environments that lack the depth and interactivity seen in more modern VR shooters. The game’s horror elements are rooted more in constant pressure than in psychological dread. There are few quiet moments to build tension slowly; instead, fear emerges from being overwhelmed by numbers and speed, knowing that mistakes in VR feel more immediate and personal. This design choice works well for players seeking adrenaline-driven action, but it may disappoint those hoping for a more atmospheric or story-focused horror experience. The narrative rarely evolves beyond its initial setup, and character development is minimal, reinforcing the sense that the story exists mainly to justify the action. Overall, The Purge Day is a straightforward VR shooter that delivers bursts of intense, immersive combat but struggles to sustain long-term engagement due to repetitive structure and limited depth. It is best approached as a product of its time: an early attempt to translate traditional arcade-style shooting into virtual reality. For VR enthusiasts interested in experiencing a no-frills alien survival shooter, especially at a budget price, it can still offer moments of genuine tension and excitement. However, players expecting modern VR polish, rich storytelling, or varied gameplay systems may find the experience uneven and dated. Rating: 6/10
1/10 Oh my word this is poor. Avoid.
Ok. Fun but pretty dated by now. It feels very 2016. If you are looking for a cheap wave shooter and are not too fussy about graphics you might enjoy this. The aliens are pretty freaky when they come up close.
The Purge Day (2016, разработчик и издатель — Red Limb Studio) — VR‑шутер от первого лица в жанре хоррора.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
Why is my body half way through the floor?
