About
The Promise Tree of Alden is a short, atmospheric narrative experience about remorse, memory, and the silence of a forest once alive.
You play as Alden — a man burdened by the past, haunted by what he surrendered: his home among the trees.
Most of the journey unfolds as a contemplative walking experience, where every step deepens the bond between man and nature. Yet, at times, you’ll ascend into the mist — soaring among ethereal orbs that drift through the air. These fragile lights aren’t always easy to find, turning your search into a quiet challenge of discovery and perception.
Breathe in the lingering fog of what once was. Let the forest tell its story — not through words, but through light, sound, and stillness. The Promise Tree of Alden is a brief but heartfelt passage through loss, memory, and the faint glow of redemption.
PS: The core aspect of this game is the atmosphere. It is recommended for those who mostly seek to experience the mood.

The Promise Tree of Alden
Alright. The Promise Tree of Alden is done and dusted. This is very much a Tonguç Bodur walking sim, which is to say that you have an introspective story married with spectacular visuals and a couple on-brand moments where Tonguç experiments by adding new gameplay wrinkles. It took maybe 40 minutes to complete. Ish. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3687356200 From a story perspective, this is a monologue game. The narrator, Alden, takes you through his personal darkness, in this instance, his grief and remorse at having broken a promise. A promise that in my estimation, he needs to forgive himself for his perceived failure, which in my opinion, wasn't in any way his failure, nor could he really have prevented it. And in the end, I do think he finds a place of forgiveness in his own heart. But IDK, was he supposed to be the guardian of this one place and forego everything else in life? Nah. IRL, I'd be like, "stop being so hard on yourself". Anyway, it's well written and presented with appropriate level of drama to drive home the sense of guilt the narrator is wrestling with. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3687356216 This is made in Unreal IIRC. Unreal 5 maybe? I forgot to look at the end. It's a stunner. I really enjoy how Tonguc is able to incorporate assets in a sensible manner that helps him realize the vision he has for telling the story he wishes to tell. This is really how you should do this. The world is crafted and arranged with care and thoughtfulness and is a visual feast by any metric. In this instance, Tonguc plays around a lot with filtered lighting and even some B&W to provide stark contrast in environments. He also seems to have an innate sense for the Rule of Thirds, something I sometimes ignore while screen archering, lol. The structure of this game is linear, with no branching paths. There are four chapters to enjoy, each with cool adjustments to the visual experience. Key moments are highlighted by memory globes, floating wisps that light your path. There are also cool looking philosopher's statues which light up the path at various places. And, there are special sequences that fly you from wisp to wisp to reveal even more snippets of memory that enhance the story. These are examples of those experimental moments Tonguc likes to add to his games to try new concepts out. You can skip these sequences, but you will miss out on some story by doing so. There are also two completely minor puzzles which you will breeze through in a couple seconds. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3687458345 One other thing that Tonguc does that I always find clever when he includes it. He offers fast walking, which every walking sim fan expects, but during key moments where he wants you to really focus on the environment and a significant part of the story, he takes the fast walking away and directly controls your walking pace. Which lets you know that this is a moment he really wants you to fully experience. I'm a fan of this approach. I would recommend toning down the mouse sensitivity when you play this, because there's so much going on visually that it can be motion sickness inducing if you let it go at its default sensitivity settings depending on how sensitive you are to this. Also, there is one moment, where a rock wall opens up, that the game freezes. It picks right back up where it left off, but that singular activity does seem to strain the game. Yeah, if you're a fan of Tonguc's games or simply a fan of storytelling focused walking sims, you kind of owe it to yourself to play this game. Additionally, if you are a screen archer, this is a must own must play. Give it a look when you have an hour to spare. I bought this for $3.19 and have no regrets. Tonguc is so back with this game! I've played most of his games and liked them all, and this one really delivers once again. I really loved the narration and the atmosphere. It's an experience that’s better discovered when you play it yourself, it really felt like journeying through someone’s memories. Calm and open to interpretation. Highly recommended!
This is your typical Tonguç Bodur walking simulator game with beautiful scenery and story voice over actor. Unreal engine game set at epic took a while to load. i recommend toning it down to high without ambiant occlusion, bloom and motion blur if you have patato computer. The game also includes great classical music. Thumbs up recommended if you like walking sims.
Tonguc "The God of Walking Sim´" is back! This is 110% What Walking Simulator should be!! + Beautiful graphic + Nice voices + Nice story + Atmospheric + Did I say... Beautiful Graphic!!! Many times I stopped and dropped my jaw... Just looking around... + No JumpScare + No Escape Running + Chapter Selection + I didn't find any flaws or bugs. - B/W Scenes :( This is Walking Sim as it's Best... Just walk, enjoy the scenery and follow the story... Achievements, 100% / ~1h. (No missable cheevos..) Ps. I just want to go back... 1 More time, to look around...
Many first-person indie games make me a bit nauseous, but this one felt really comfortable to play. I appreciated all the settings that let you adjust things like motion blur and other visual effects. The game itself is very calm and relaxing. It’s the kind of experience you can play when you’re feeling a little overwhelmed and just want something quiet and atmospheric. I especially enjoyed listening to the narrator while exploring.I highly recommend this!
Total linear walking simulator, about 30 mins, looks amazing, lots of settings. it's mostly walking and not very much playing. If you're curious what I mean, download the Demo (NOTE: if you're streaming the game, every second of the soundtrack is copywritten so turn the music OFF) SPOILER Full Game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLoaKCbTGAg
I really loved the environment and the story. It’s bittersweet and carries something very important. In this game, you walk through the memories you have of the forest as it no longer exists. But one could also say the forest isn’t entirely gone, since it lives on in someone’s memory. The atmosphere and narration made it a deeply memorable experience. I also think it can be connected not only to forests but to other parts of life.. just like any piece of art, it’s open to interpretation. I loved it and highly recommend playing this, as well as every other game from this dev!
Atmospheric, somewhat repetitive, and leaning into that symbolic walking sim story style, but for me it was hard to connect emotionally. It feels like it's trying to be deep and poetic through fragments, strange imagery and vague mystery, rather than giving you a story that actually grabs you. Which is a shame, because the whole experience has a great potential. In a weird way, instead of getting the emotional weight of the narrative, it feels like you're being given the short text version. The one your nana sends you, cause she doesn't know how to text. The weird little jumping lights, odd voices, and the main character often sounding like a mildly distressed Christopher Walken with that unnatural stop-start delivery, completely throttled my interest at times. It did make me laugh. Which, I'm fairly certain wasn't the intended emotional response. Overall, not bad if you like artsy, abstract games, but if you don't want to spend your time guessing someone else's symbolism without enough actual story to bite into, this probably won't land for you.
The Promise Tree of Alden
Finally I feel like I’ve been waiting for so long to get my yearly walking sim from Tonguç Bodur! The Promise Tree of Alden has everything I enjoy, it’s relaxing, beautiful, and I like the narrative.
