Based on the other reviews it looks like they gave away a lot of free keys, doesn't it? Note to self: Next time this dev sells something, see if they're giving it away on another site somewhere before buying it. On topic, this is a nice little piece of software. Perfect for my needs. I'm a beginner to digital art, want to become a better digital artist and this gives me a little bit of incentive to practice. The more you paint, the better tools can buy and the higher level you get. The higher level you get, the more tools you have access to. IMO "the art collection" thing isn't well implemented. It would probably be better as part of a minigame, semi-separate from this, where you're investing or something and you've got an AI that trends for certain types of paintings. Otherwise I have no incentive to buy anyone else's stuff. In any event, the community is too small for all that to matter. Don't buy this for any social/community aspect since that seems to be non-existent. If you're like me, not good enough to create digital art that anyone would want, and just want some incentive to practice then this game is perfect and worth full price. I don't see any other reason to buy it, though.

Great space to get creative in! This game has been fun to come back to over the last few days and play with. The tools are restricted in the beginning which gives you time to explore them one by one as you unclock them. The game has a light touch otherwise and leaves it to you to create. I enjoy seeing all my art in one place and it's nice to think others can look too. The daily challenge mode is a nice way to get the ball rolling with a new prompt once a day. I hope some new sound effects for brushes could be added but currently just play with the SFX low. The ocean/shore sounds plus light guitar make for a soothing atmosphere. I wouldn't mind painting to whale noises or jungle sounds too, just saying..

It's not quite Photoshop but a novel, relaxing "game" with redux painting tools, where you progressively unlock colors, tools and canvases, exhibit and buy and sell artwork in the community market, including other players' works of art. give it a try! I very much enjoy coming back to view other people's haphazard artwork. The community is like five people, but it's there.

The Painter's Playground is really a very nice game with unique possibilities. There are two different ways to play it. It is possible to start a Career mode and earn experience points and gold, sell your own artwork in the online community and buy from other artists' artworks. With the gold one can buy different canvases, different colors, brushes, artwork gallery squares, artwork sales places, backgrounds and painting tools. The second style of play is a kind of god mode with direct access to all colors and art supplies from the beginning. In the background is very pleasant guitar music / tones, the whole is loosened up or replaced by occasional sound of the sea and other everyday sounds. The game backgrounds are all together with real oil paintings and give the whole a nice atmosphere. The nice thing about it is if you can present your own piece of art to the community or sell it to someone. It's also nice to show the painted picture on your own profile under Artworks or share it in the Community Hub and see how others react. It is also possible to have your own gallery in the game and to exhibit your own or purchased works of art. Positive: - Create your own artwork - Career and God mode - Wide selection of colors, canvases, painting tools - many possibilities of interaction with other people - very nice music and backgrounds - Game maker communicates with the players Negative: - I have not noticed anything yet For 9.99 you get here a never-ending gaming experience :) German Review: The Painter's Playground ist wirklich ein sehr schönes Spiel mit einzigartigen Möglichkeiten. Es gibt zwei verschiedene arten es zu spielen. Es ist möglich einen kariere Modus zu starten und Erfahrungspunkte und Gold zu verdienen, die eigenen Kunstwerke in der Online Community zu verkaufen und von andere Kunstwerke von anderen Spielern zu kaufen. Mit dem Gold kann man verschiedenen Leinwände kaufen, verschiedene Farben, Pinsel, Kunstwerk Gallery Plätze, Kunstwerk Verkaufsplätze, Hintergründe und Malwerkzeuge. Die zweite Spielweise ist eine art Gott Mode mit direkten Zugang zu allen Farben und Malutensilien von Anfang an. Im Hintergrund läuft sehr angenehme Gitarrenmusik / töne, das Ganze wird von gelegentlichen Meeresrauschen und anderen alltäglichen Geräuschen aufgelockert bzw. abgelöst. Die Spielhintergründe sind alle samt echte Ölbilder und geben dem ganzen eine schöne Atmosphäre. Das schöne am ganzen ist es wenn man das eigene Kunstwerk der Community präsentieren kann bzw. es an jemanden verkauft. Es ist auch schön das gemalte Bild auf dem eigenen Profil unter Artworks auszustellen oder es im Community Hub zu teilen, und zu schauen wie andere reagieren. Es ist auch möglich im Spiel eine eigene Galerie zu haben und die eigenen oder gekaufte Kunstwerke auszustellen. Positiv: - Eigene Kunstwerke krerieren - Kariere und Gott Modus - große auswahl an Farben, Leinwände, Malwerkzeuge - sehr viele möglichkeiten der interaktion mit anderen Menschen - sehr schöne Musik und Hintergründe - Spielemacher kommuniziert mit den Spielern Negativ: - es ist mir bis jetzt nichts aufgefallen Für 9,99 € kriegt man hier ein nie endendes Spielerlebnis :)

I was interested to try this game after enjoying Passepartout - The Starving Artist, it seemed to be a depthier and more social painting experience. However, it misses the mark by some distance. Though the drawing tools are deliberately primitive, they are implemented dreadfully. For example, you'd expect a paintbrush tool to flow continuously as long as you hold the button down, and maybe taper off towards the end of a stroke. Instead it makes a line of blobby circles, there's no brush texture, no flow control. For tablet users, there's no pressure sensitivity or even a vague attempt at it. The fine work pen tool is a single pixel with an anti-aliased "smear" which looks hideous. The spray can is a bog-standard flat colour circular spray as in MSPaint - no spray control, no opacity. The developers state that the game is more of a "painting simulator" but when your base tools are as shabby as these, you've got problems. The game structure is also suspect - you start with a palette of primary colours and the paintbrush tool, and from there spend your in-game currency to unlock individual colours. Obstensibly you are supposed to "sell" your paintings to other users as a source of income. However, as you amass currency by simply sitting with a picture open, and can exchange currency for renown (the level mechanism needed for more canvas sizes and tools), it's purely a time-gate. There is a sandbox mode with all tools and colours unlocked, but when MSPaint offers a better standard of tools, I was left wondering what the point was.
