Now this is a strange one. Basically, it's MS Paint but, using the magic of the internet, tied into a system where other players can view and buy whatever crazy pictures you've come up with. As you spend more time doodling you can buy more tools and colours, thus hopefully improving the quality of your pictures. I've played it on both a desktop and a Surface Pro 4 and it works well. The selecting of tools and colours can be a bit squiffy (might be because of the battery) on the Surface while using the pen, but the actual drawing part works really well. You can see that from some of the works the community has somehow managed to produce, despite the fairly limited array of tools available. My favourite part of the shop is the option to buy some inspiration. The sound effects and music are fairly minimal, but are pleasant and overall playing the game is theraputic. I really hope this takes off because the community part of the game is vital to its success. So fingers crossed and hopefully see you in Painter's Port!

I am not an artist, With this game I am able to practice and develop an ability for art. I can see what is appreciated in my style and what is not appreciated. Making paintings/drawings and selling them or putting them up in the community center is quite satisfying. I recommend this game for anyone that wants to explore an interest in art while enjoying the artwork of others.

The Painter's Playground--like all games--has its ups and downs. Nevertheless, it is still worth the buy. Ever feel stressed, creative, or just want to really relax a bit? How about take all those emotions, ideas, and concepts onto a canvas instead of out of frustration? Don't have the funds to affording painting so many pictures? Then The Painter's Playground is just for you. Allow me to summarize the positive and negatives: [b][u]Positives:[/u][/b] [list] [*][b]LOTS[/b] of options to create a masterpiece [*]Ways to share your work with the community [*]Relaxing after a series of unfortunate and stressful events [*]Can easily just be picked up on the go if started on a laptop [*]Response time on support and with bugs via email is fast and effecient [*]Using the hour per dollar ratio in pricing a game, this game would be worth approximately $285 USD (may be biased) [/list] [b][u]Negatives:[/u][/b] [list] [*]Some of the bugs can be [b][i]horrendous[/i][/b] (such as where all paintings are flagged with forgery and deleted) [*]Steam Cloud synchronization doesn't exactly sync your level well across multiple devices--especially if you forgot to close out of it on your other device(s) [*]For badge collectors, there are absolutely no trading cards that come with this game (THIS IS BIG FOR STEAM GAMES) [*]For some reason, an AMD Radeon CPU can run this at 60 FPS (or greater?) while an i3 2120 cannot [*]If you don't think you can put ten hours in this, it would not worth the buy using the hour per dollar ratio ($5 maybe?) [/list] While this game may not exactly be the definition of perfect, I will say to you that it is something I would say is worth the buy for sure. It's definitely something I like to play in my spare time.

If you enjoy Passpartout: The Starving Artist but want more to do and being able to view other peoples art and even sell to them. The UI is easy to work with and if you've ever made a piece of art with MSPaint or Photoshop then you are ready to make your masterpiece in Painter's Playground. Colors, brushes, and canvas options are available for purchase with the in game currency which include Smudge Tools, Watercolor Brushes, etc. And while you don't get the layering options of Adobe Photoshop you can atleast use the many tools to simulate a painting on real canvas. I recommend this if you're into doing digital painting, screwing around in MSPaint, or just want to show off your doodles.

Firstly, I would like to thank Ryan for allowing me to experience this game. Thank you Ryan! Review: The Painter's Playground is a pretty unique game in my opinion. It features canvas drawing with many different colors, drawing utensils, and unlockables. When I had played this game a while back I had really enjoyed it for a couple of reasons. I really like how this game favors the user taking their time with their paintings. As you create your drawing, you gather currency which is used for purchasing other artwork or purchasing unlockables. Yet another amazing feature this game brings to the table is the community-based artwork marketplace. Conclusion: I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys programs/software for drawing such as Microsoft Paint or anyone who might enjoy gathering a collection of unique user-created art. This game has a lot to offer and is (in my opinion) a major step up from the average basic drawing software. I find that this game brings tranquility to me as I am chipping away with my paintings. It is nice to have a game where I can wind down from the day if I need it!

The Painter's Playground is a social art game where you can make your paintings, share & trade them with other artists and admire others' work. I like the chilled out feeling of the game and the fact that there is a score, money etc. give you an aim to stay active. I hope they implement a proper pixel art interface.

Whether you’re a casual doodler or professional illustrator, The Painter’s Playground is a fun experience for the artist in all of us. The paints and tools can be limiting compared to simply running drawing software and using that to make things, but often times the game’s limitations do well to add to a no pressure environment. You’ll get rewarded for simply trying to make anything. The game really shines with it’s online features though. You can sell you artwork to other players using a marketplace, and use that money to either buy other people’s work, or more tools to work with in your studio. Or you could send your artwork to a gallery where people can give it a thumbs up if they like it. It’s a great feeling when you see that someone else liked what you did enough to give you a little virtual tip or thumbs up. The artwork that’s currently in the game’s online galleries covers all the bases from abstract MSpaint style doodles, to awe-inspiring masterpieces and everything in between. If you’re an artist of any skill level, I’d say The Painter’s Playground is worth jumping into, as it’s a great way to get your creative gears working. If you’re not an artist at all, but still enjoy messing around in things like MSpaint or looking at other people’s work, then I’d also say you should give it a shot.

Like MSPAINT but way more awesomer. Very astonished that penises have been filtered out of the online Gallery, there must be some crazy tech behind that. Pretty impressive to see what some people are painting!

Based on the other reviews it looks like they gave away a lot of free keys, doesn't it? Note to self: Next time this dev sells something, see if they're giving it away on another site somewhere before buying it. On topic, this is a nice little piece of software. Perfect for my needs. I'm a beginner to digital art, want to become a better digital artist and this gives me a little bit of incentive to practice. The more you paint, the better tools can buy and the higher level you get. The higher level you get, the more tools you have access to. IMO "the art collection" thing isn't well implemented. It would probably be better as part of a minigame, semi-separate from this, where you're investing or something and you've got an AI that trends for certain types of paintings. Otherwise I have no incentive to buy anyone else's stuff. In any event, the community is too small for all that to matter. Don't buy this for any social/community aspect since that seems to be non-existent. If you're like me, not good enough to create digital art that anyone would want, and just want some incentive to practice then this game is perfect and worth full price. I don't see any other reason to buy it, though.
