It started off pretty good and interesting, the padre is a great character with amazing voice over, but after a while I just completely lost the will to play. The teleport levels really did it for me... turned me away completely. Most of the puzzles I did not enjoy either... and the combat is bad. In conclusion, I wasted too much time in this not very enjoyable game, I personally do not recommend it.
Games menu isn't helpful. There are no descriptors. Melee is a joke with enemies pushing you back with hits and then moving out of range, which you can't move closer while trying to swing. Prepare to move the camera yourself as you move and the camera will not move for you.

I like it! :) Fancy graphics, nice jokes, scary tale :) Old-school Point&Click - nicely done!
The Padre, developed by Shotgun with Glitters and published by Feardemic, is a survival-horror adventure that blends retro design sensibilities with a distinctive voxel-based aesthetic and dark humor. Positioned as a modern homage to classic survival horror titles, the game combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and deliberate combat pacing within a compact but atmospheric setting. Its identity is shaped as much by its stylized visuals and sarcastic protagonist as by its commitment to old-school mechanics. The story centers on a mysterious priest known simply as the Padre, who travels to investigate the disappearance of a cardinal within a sprawling, ominous mansion. The narrative unfolds gradually through environmental storytelling, notes, and character encounters. Rather than presenting a straightforward horror plot, the game balances ominous supernatural themes with the Padre’s sardonic commentary. His constant quips and wry observations create an unusual tonal mix, oscillating between tension and irreverent humor. Visually, The Padre stands apart due to its voxel art style. Characters and environments are constructed from blocky, stylized forms that evoke retro 3D design while maintaining modern lighting effects. Shadows and flickering light sources contribute to a moody atmosphere, and the angular geometry lends the mansion a surreal, almost dreamlike quality. While some players may find the aesthetic unconventional for horror, it reinforces the game’s commitment to blending nostalgia with originality. Exploration lies at the heart of the experience. The mansion’s interconnected rooms require methodical navigation, key discovery, and puzzle-solving to unlock new areas. Environmental puzzles range from inventory-based challenges to pattern recognition tasks that demand careful observation. At times, the game offers satisfying “aha” moments when solutions click into place. However, certain puzzles can feel opaque, occasionally lacking sufficient guidance and requiring trial-and-error experimentation. Combat exists but is secondary to exploration. Encounters with grotesque creatures require cautious movement and strategic use of limited resources. The Padre can utilize melee weapons and ranged options, but combat is intentionally stiff and deliberate, echoing the pacing of early survival horror games. This design choice heightens tension during encounters but may also frustrate players accustomed to smoother, more responsive action systems. A notable mechanic ties player death to narrative stakes. Rather than offering unlimited retries without consequence, repeated failures impact progression through an in-game resource system. This adds weight to each confrontation and encourages careful play. While this system enhances tension, it can also amplify frustration when combined with unclear puzzle solutions or challenging enemy encounters. The game’s audio design reinforces its eerie tone. Ambient soundscapes echo through hallways, and subtle musical cues build suspense during exploration. Voice acting for the Padre injects personality into the experience, grounding the narrative even when supernatural events escalate. The contrast between his humor and the grim environment creates a distinctive rhythm throughout the adventure. Pacing varies across the game’s runtime. Early sections establish atmosphere and mystery effectively, while later segments escalate enemy presence and puzzle complexity. The contained scope means the adventure does not overstay its welcome, typically concluding within several hours. Replay value is moderate, primarily driven by revisiting puzzles and uncovering missed narrative details rather than branching storylines. Ultimately, The Padre succeeds as a niche survival-horror experience that embraces retro design while carving out a unique stylistic identity. Its voxel visuals, atmospheric mansion setting, and sardonic protagonist create a memorable blend of tension and humor. While technical quirks and occasionally obtuse puzzles may limit its accessibility, the game appeals strongly to players who appreciate classic horror mechanics and unconventional presentation. Rating: 6/10
Had a lot of fun playing The Padre; the dark humour was funny, the story line was bonkers as were the characters. The Puzzles gave just enough difficulty that you have to think a little bit and the combat takes a little practice as the "click box" is finnicky but once you get it locked down its good. It doesn't try to punish you, just lets you enjoy a chill time gaming with a laugh. I would have liked map (like Binding of Isaac style?) but i made it around just fine anyway.
Wanted to like this game so much, as the art and music are really well done. But I just couldn't get past the lack of directionality and absolute garbage combat system. And after spending well over an hour on one puzzle only to have perma death occur, was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Just a bit naff
The moment I first started The Padre, and heard the gravelly voice of the narrator, I thought I was in for something good. Maybe good isn't the right word, but it certainly seemed like it would be amusing to play through. The voice actor playing the main character (named The Padre, whodathunkit) sounded like an eighteen year old amateur with a sore throat, trying to deepen their voice in order to sound grizzled. Instead, it made every line of dialogue laughable, as if our protagonist was delivering them while acutely constipated but powering through regardless. Unfortunately, when I actually began to play the game itself, there was nothing particularly exceptional to note. G R A P H I C S

The game adopts a voxel art style. As such, in tandem with the sub-par voice acting, it feels like some teenager's Minecraft mod rather than a horror game.
The lighting isn't bad, but the settings aren't exactly masterfully crafted. It didn't help that I had been playing The Sexy Brutale just an hour before this, which only highlighted The Padre's shortcomings. Both are set in a rustic mansion, and both adopt an isometric-esque style. The thing is, The Sexy Brutale is far more polished in every regard. This comparison might seem unfair, seeing as The Padre clearly had a smaller team and development budget than The Sexy Brutale, but The Padre actually costs more than The Sexy Brutale on Steam by about $0.50. If the developers of this game are willing to charge the price of a highly polished indie game, then it seems reasonable to hold it to the standard of a similar product.
It's sometimes difficult to determine what things even are on account of the blocky artstyle. I may have laughed out loud when The Padre nonchalantly declared that an amorphous mass I came across in a bedroom was "a zombie reading a book".
G A M E P L A Y

I don't know what's up with the people who are nostalgic for Resident Evil 1's controls. RE1 controlled horribly, and we all know it. The Padre fortunately doesn't force the player to suffer through the pain of using 'tank controls', but it's definitely slow and a little clunky.
The puzzles are asinine and obtuse, and they aren't worth trudging from room to room to complete.
It's not unfinished, it's not unpolished, it's just not very fun, and there are other indie projects out there that are more worth your time and money. 5/10
