I really enjoyed this story. That being said...is it possible Dev, ...to actually follow through, put your WIP here I'm sure some supporters would appreciate it.
Overall great game and story! The storyline had me invested from the beginning and the ending? Shocked and damn that had me tearing up. I do not necessarily like how all romance paths feel tailored for Poly couples, its not really my thing but it seems to be a running theme, if anything the relationships feel like it wants you to go there and I feel it could have been handle a bit better. The ROs are nice, I was not able to completely get into them again due to the previous statement but still worth going for it
While I really enjoyed playing the game, I am very confused and sad after finishing it. I see people say that there is no different ending and that it is a cliffhanger - but it pretty much feels like a bad ending for me and I don't know if I messed up something somewhere or this is really the end of it. The game itself was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat all the time. It was a great game to play with a ton of choices and mysteries, so I recommend it, but
the ending felt like all those choices were in vain.
I don't want to be a downer and maybe I got a bad ending somehow - but I can't really find any information out there.
And honest to godness awesome read. The world is rich, the lore is very interesting, characters well written and if not likeable than definitely belieavable and the overall plot keeps you very much engaged, even if it falls second to the inter-character drama and relationships. There are several routes, all the characters get their time to shine, you can define your own character quite well and while there is more or less only a single ending (To my knowledge) the context of it and how you get there is wildly different, as will be the feelings associated with it. Very little in this game has done anything but interest, invest and delight me, during the early accesss there were moments when I ran into bugs which soured my experience a bit (especially when I got locked out of a very important conversation) but that will not be a problem anymore. This game paints a picture, puts you into a magical world and makes you care, or least be interested in everyone and everything. While not at the very top, it absolutely does graze the highest positions on my personal ranking. The only real issue I took with the game during my two playthroughs is that it can get overly verbose, painting a picture is all well and good, brilliant most of the time in fact, but oftentimes I found myself wondering what exactly was I supposed to imagine instead and had to spend what seemed like pages on descriptions over dialogue or moving the plot forward. And of course, as with everything I truly enjoy, there simply isnt enough of it, the second book is well underway but after having finished this I wanted to know what will happen next immidiately, I was loathed to be apart from the characters and loved ones I created and got to know, that is to say, I cant wait for the sequel. All in all, well recommended. Hazel best girl and I know I will be crucified for this, but I do not like Milo :P
One of my favorite interactive fiction games. The author's writing itself is polished and professional, the characters are complex, the world unique, the plot compelling- everything you could ask for, really. I'm really looking forward to Book 2.
I'm quite on the fence about this one. On one hand, I enjoyed the story well enough, found the characters pleasant within scenes, and many of the situations to have satisfying branching paths. However, as someone else has pointed out there are several instances of pretty basic grammatical and spelling errors that take me out of the long sections of text. The descriptions are generally enjoyable so it's a shame when this happens. For the price point especially I would expect more of a polished presentation Another gripe I personally have is the game absolutely railroading you within a romance route. I haven't finished it yet because I've been too annoyed with one specific scene –
i.e. if you're romancing Gabe, there's no way to not rant at him about the future of the night market and his workplace ethics after the Caliban sequence. I think this is a worthwhile storyline but having multiple dialogue options all ending with the same rant feels out of place for a game that's otherwise pretty willing to let you ♥♥♥♥ things up to see what will happen. I was left with the feeling that you as the player are trying to solve the issues of the night market as opposed to having the freedom to roleplay a character who might make altruistic choices but unwilling to forcibly push their romantic interest strongly in that same direction.
Overall I'd say if you like the standard visual novel format, this one is alright. If you're looking for something more like CYOA (The game is tagged as interactive fiction, after all) it falls a little flat. I'm also not sure about the RPG elements because there's no stat management or special interactivity with your character choices as far as I can tell. I designated myself as female when given the choice and characters still called me they in dialogue. I would be interested in playing another installment of this series and hope for more UI elements like hosting character profiles and portraits in the game! Strong effort even with my personal gripes considered and I think there's some good potential here for a sequel or future expansion.
I'm a few years late. The setting is interesting, and the characters compelling. The author should be proud of what she has created. Be aware that this is merely book one, and not a complete story by itself.
I followed this IF from when it was published chapter by chapter on itch and I supported this on Kickstarter. I love this story and I really suggest you to give it a try. The world building is phenomenal and I hope to see more in book 2. The characters are well-rounded and behave realistically. I love the writing style, it's very descriptive but doesn't get lost in details. The dialogues feel natural and, when needed, can be very profound. Be aware that your choices won't modify the story that much or change the story ending but mostly dictate the relationship you'll have with the characters. However, I think this decision suits the story well and doesn't feel forced on the reader, or rather, it's a little bit forced but it has a really valid reason. There are some minor mistakes here and there, but compared to the magnitude of this book, they can be ignored. Moreover, the writer periodically checks for bugs or errors in general (using also a public bug-report channel on her discord) and she's very active on social media, so if you have questions or just want to discover more about this world, you can check her tumblr and/or discord. All in all, a very well-written story (with a positively shocking ending) that I hope will charm others as it charmed me more than a year ago
I enjoyed it. Would recommend.
