There are 206 achievements and you can get half of them by starting the game and letting it idle for a while. The other ones are obtained through playing, some of them are rather difficult to obtain, actually. On top of that, there are a few that are broken, and cannot be obtained at all. So, if you are looking at this game to add one to your 100% collection, better stay away. If you just want a bunch of achievements rather quickly, while playing a platformer of sorts, this is a possibility for you. (I got about 160 of them in 1 hour of playing time). This is a basic platformer that has been designed with some thought, though with a good share of its own bugs, has a repetitive playing pattern, but some of the difficult sections are really tough. That is the primary reason why I am giving this game a thumbs up, because it's actually trying to be decent for its asking price of 0.99 USD. The art is rather unique, with several different common enemy sprites, and some others for uncommon enemies and bosses. There is some individuality, and I think that is done rather well. Some of the animations adds to the overall desired effects. The music and sound-effects sound basic but gives enough of an eerie feel that I would say fits well. There are three weapons that you can use and switch between in rapid succession. They do different amounts of damage. Each weapon has limited ammo, so if you are out, you are out. But it is really difficult to run out, because when you die, your ammo stays with you. And where you spawn there is usually always ammo to be picked up nearby.
Problems With This Game
1. The platforming should be done with using not the Up button or joystick up to jump. This induces a lot of unnecessary jumping. The controls should be reconfigured or at least the player given the options to do that. The joystick up for jump is the most problematic way to jump in a platformer. 2. The bugs mostly involve clipping issues, invisible boxes, or places that get you stuck, even though nothing is seemingly keeping you there. Fortunately these are consistent, and if you figure out where they are, they are not too difficult to deal with. Most notably, around level 2, jumping around the "open hand" platforms, this is seriously bugged. 3. There really shouldn't be any broken achievements. I unlocked levels 1-8, of 12 total, and you are supposed to get achievements with every level unlock. Some of the earlier ones failed.
Conclusion
The game is a 0.99 USD achievement hunting game with a decent platforming attempt, lots of devil/ghost killing, so I actually sat there and tried to finish the game. I died probably close to 200 times, but eventually managed to decently far. For those who find a difficult jump or needing to do so with the right timing and has addictions to trying to outdo yourself, as I do, some parts of this can be a bit addictive. The controls are all right, could be better (see above). For what it is, it's really halfway decent. Definitely not a game for everyone, but I might go back and try to finish it some day. Can dev fix the broken achievements?
Retro style and very addictive and cheap. https://youtu.be/GPjy69vXVmQ
Terrible game. The dialogue is awful and overall gameplay was boring. As a fan of platformers, I was highly disappointed. Just wasn't worth the money (even on sale).
Nice 2D platformer game. Atmosphere is relatively scary for a pixel game. Quite hard due to clunky controls, especially jumping, took me almost 30 mins to make that damn jump at level one. A few broken achievements and the working ones are very grinding. The game has even a little plot. + unlimited lifes + auto save - no checkpoints Time to get +90% - approx. 60-90 mins. 6/10
If you love to collect achievements very easily this game is for you! It is so retro and difficult to play which makes the game fun and it is also cheap.
This retro horror platform game is not perfect. You can finish it in an hour, and it doesn't have the depth or polish of other retro horror platformers (Possum Hollow comes to mind) to keep you coming back to replay it. Some of the achievements require grinding and seemingly must be completed in a single playthrough. You can stockpile a boatload of ammo by repeatedly dying (infinite lives) and collecting the powerups (rather useful, actually, for one boss and for the final timed survival level). The engine, apparently the same used in the developer's Smashing Pumpkins game, is buggy and not that smooth or fun. It really feels comparable to a The Games Factory or early MultiMedia Fusion engine. But oddly enough, therein lies a lot of the game's charm. It stirs up memories of the freeware games of twenty years ago. Plenty of which were from relatively inexperienced programmers who got a game creation program and tried their hand at it. This developer has put in work above and beyond the average, making some creative design choices with what the program can do. Some levels are standard mindless action fare, albeit with some differences. Others, however, are mostly simple exloration levels with a couple of hazards and some spooky effets. They're simple but unusual and effective, not spooky but a kind of Halloween scare-houser fun. There is also a surprising amount of plot in the game involving several characters. It doesn't have a lot of logic or traditional progression but ads to the overall fun factor. All this combines to give a smiple horror platformer a bit of substance and evoke a different time, one we don't often recall. Yeah, I'm recommending it, with the understanding that the gameplay is on the poor side. It's worth a playthrough and it's fairly priced. One can imagine the developers toying with the idea of making a series of games about this ghost-busting crew's cases (and they definitely throw in some humor). I'll never be the biggest fan of that engine, but the devs didn't half-ass it and have made . . . an experience. So good on you chaps.
