The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu

An awesome game to play if you've got the right group to do it with. It definitely has more depth and variety than I was expecting. It really nails the Extract game-adjacent thing, I really like the loadout system. You might get spooked!

The only thing that this game needs is a friends list for cross play. I spend 20 minutes each night on PC searching for wife's server on Playstation...

So much fun. There are a lot of comments complaining about ammo or the intensity. Nah, it's genuinely fine. I only use melee anyway (and throw the axe lol). (and I got more kills than anyone)

A lot of the negative reviews are irrelevant, complaining about optimization. I have not really had major issues beyond some stutter, and being that it JUST RELEASED I am sure the devs will optimize. That is the issue with reviews on steam, they are nonsense. as for gameplay, so far it has been a lot of fun particularly if you have some buddies to play with. the sounds and visual hallucinations are very unique and bring something new that I have not experienced before. It is difficult to know what is going to happen next. At one point, one of my buddies and I kept hearing horrid screaming while the other couldn't hear anything. the game does a great job of screwing with your head. The combat is good and utilizing the flintlock guns is actually really well done. overall I would say it is worthwhile especially if you have people to play with, and I think the devs are on to something here as long as they make some good decisions with future updates.

Lots of fun. Definitely better with friends. The single player bot is serviceable. The roguelite loop is enjoyable, though I wish there was more choice in what could be brought, maybe though a purchase system where each expedition gets a budget. I hope they add a block and/or dodge system. I don't mind the lack of jumping. I don't think it would add anything to the game. I do have an issue where sometimes I will get a fatal error when launching the game. To bypass it I have to keep launching the game over and over until it finally loads.

I had like 30 or so hours in the demo. Optimization is probably a problem, but I haven't had that issue. There is a learning curve to working within the system. It is possible to solo salvage, portals, survivor and occult items. Some contracts have bad tools to work with. Spend your tokens on helpful tools relevant to the mission. Axe/Bow Bis. Save guns for when forest wakes up. Honestly aside from optimization and the inherent jank of UE, any issues with mechanics seems like a skill issue.
