About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions

Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

If you enjoyed the language aspects of Heaven's Vault or Sethian, this game will do a good job of scratching the itch. I loved it, even when it got frustrating.

This is one of the best games I have ever played
I really wanted to like this game, in theory its absolutely up my street, but it suffers from a lot of problems. The biggest is that the problems are super repetitive, and the game always feels like its padding for time. Its normally spectacularly obvious when you've solved a concept after the first couple of puzzles, but the first few acts so far are a massive detour through super basic algebra and physics, with very little 'game', repeating the same class of puzzles again and again and again The fun part of the game is trying to decode the meaning of new symbols and learning about the aliens, but its actually a surprisingly small portion of the game. In fact, interacting with the story, or the fact that there are extraterrestrials takes a backseat to solving incredibly repetitive geometry and basic maths problems. Why? I have no idea, but its very boring a lot of the time. I was pretty surprised that there wasn't more alien in my game about contact with extraterrestrials It feels like there's the core of a good idea here that was absolutely padded to the gills to stretch the game's runtime out. It'd be a much more fun game if there were 1/3rd of the puzzles, but as it is its hard to recommend given how much of it is spent re-solving the same incredibly basic set of maths/logic puzzles while nothing happens
Absolutely enthralling start to finish. I had my little pen and paper out the entire time and I think I filled up about 8 pages of notes trying to recall high school level maths. It was challenging but never frustrating, with an absolutely banging soundtrack in the background to keep me going. The characters and story are super fun and emotional and I started tearing up at multiple points. My Game Of The Year for sure, please please please play this.
That's COOL!
I never thought a puzzle game that is basically just typing messages into a computer might make me cry, but the story of this game has most certainly had a profound impact on me. It's absolutely incredible
This is perhaps the most pleasant surprise that I've ever had with a game in a long time. It had a great amount of depth with the puzzles for a simple premise, but what really locked it down as an all-time favorite for me was the story and the characters surrounding it. Nothing is wasted - the little anecdotes from the characters and the quirks of their personalities build up lovely individual story arcs for each one of them. There's a real sense of emotional connection between you, the characters, and the aliens through their message, and that's what elevates this good codebreaker game to great. Some of the puzzles are a little obtuse with answer format (there's a number of times where I know the SEMANTICS of what to respond, but the SYNTAX is just not accepted), but the overarching narrative and wanting to see more interactions from the characters was more than enough to motivate me to continue. Overall, just a lovely experience, one that I'll be thinking about for a long time.
