This game is very "of it's time." It's a very succinct criticism of the AAA game industry of the early 2010's. For the first time games were becoming so monstrously large that having half-decade gaps between releases from large teams was still relatively new. Stuff like E3 still genuinely brought hype. Experimental new tech was being brought, styles changed constantly, many series directors became miniature celebrities allowed to run wild with their creations for better or worse, and the indie scene was only just beginning to make a name for itself with games like Shovel Knight or Undertale. Is it worth playing these days? Probably not. Most of its criticisms haven't aged the best purely because a lot of the problems it was criticizing have either been addressed or have proper alternatives. But if you're looking for a blast from the past without the rose-tinted glasses this game can and will pull the blinders off, or if you're looking for a short, self-contained story about game development with some genuinely interesting mechanics, then I can certainly recommend the game.
A fun and quick game, probably about 3-5 hours. You may need a guide for some of the puzzles in the open world zone because you may or may not have relevant answers to the puzzles at hand. The final act of the game is a little out of left field in a fun way. 20 bucks is a fair price to pay.
It's amazing, its awesome, it's one of the most unique things I'ved every played. The story is good, the meta commentary is enjoyable.... aaaaaand it crashes and burns. The game is too short and leaves you longing for more. And on the final bout of the game they scrap it all and turn it into a mario maker.
This game could spark the joy of creation in those who are unsure of where to start or have never thought themselves creative. This game could rekindle the spark in creators who are in a rut and have forgotten the joy of their craft. That is the biggest possible compliment I could ever give to anything. This is not some sort of narrative-focused walking simulator now, this is a puzzle game that really makes you think outside the box, think creatively, pushes you to try something new! So many "oohhhhhhh" moments while I was playing. The voice acting is supreme, and does so much to make these characters so complex. The writing is very witty and constantly satisfying, always keeping you going forward. A very funny game. Gosh. What a masterwork. Best 4 hours of gaming I've played in a while.
Short but excellent game. Heavily recommended.
Meta game at his best!
Obsessed !!!
