The Lost Art of Innkeeping

This game is the first installment in a mini-series of inn-keeping and management games set in a low-magic world with a technological level comparable to that of the early 20th century. To be honest, it’s a small-scale production. However, small-scale doesn’t mean simple, and it’s clear that the developer is doing an excellent job with the tools at their disposal. [b]Would I recommend it? Yes. [/b] I had a lot of fun playing this game. Due to my own mistake (I played the series in reverse order), I accidentally spoiled the plot for myself. Despite that, I enjoyed learning about the origins and backstories of some of the NPCs who will appear in the sequel. Unfortunately, the flaws are more noticeable in this game - mainly because it was the first installment, serving as both a first attempt and a test of the concept. ✅[list] [*] Well prepared tutorial. Everything is presented in a clear and concise manner, some of the bigger games could learn a thing or two from this. [*] Cleverly implanted hint system. [*] 2 difficulty levels: classic and relaxing, so you can play without the stress of a deadline. [*] Enjoyable story. You’re renovating an inherited estate and, in the process, breathing new life into a nearby village. [*] It is clear at first glance that the creator put his heart and soul into it. The locations are appropriately detailed and have been carefully refined. The creator really used the potential of the ‘engine’ to create it. [*] Game features elements of art and literature taken from real life. [*] Achievements are engaging and easy to get. Unfortunately, you’ll need several playthroughs to collect all of them. [*] Well-optimized and bug-free. [*] Price/length ratio is well balanced. [/list] 😐 I don't like the background graphic in the main menu. In my opinion, it just doesn't fit with the game's aesthetic and concept. A semi-open world (its openness depends on our hotel’s level), but maps should be bigger. ❌[list] [*] Short. [*] Unfortunately, the management aspect is lacking. We build a hotel, but we can't decide how to use the rooms outside of the layout and concept imposed by the game dev. [*] Game is a bit too linear. Some tasks require you to perform specific actions, but you can't do them in advance or prepare for them in any way. The game doesn't let you take the initiative and forces you to adopt a passive approach. [*] Although the game offers an “relaxing” difficulty level, it's clear that it was designed with the “classic” mode in mind. All the interesting events and upgrades will be completed within the first 30 days. [/list]

I am so happy that I found this game amongs the chaos of the Steam platform. It's amazing that a small RPG Maker game can give me the satisfaction of time management/resource allocation gameplay that other games couldn't. Simple UI, simple graphics. Charming, witty dialogues. A really exciting and fun story that have multiple endings and twists! This game is the definition of a 'hidden gem' if I ever saw one.

LOVED this game. Only downside is the short playtime. It's cozy, it's cute, good muisic, good vibes. Would highly recommend.

Super cute game with a fun storyline. The characters have different personalities (and needs and desires) and your job is to set the rooms up to accommodate your guests. There are several different endings and achievements, so going through all of the content takes about 20 hours, making the $5 price tag very reasonable.

Oh my goodness, this was such a fun, cozy simulation pixel game. I absolutely loved The Lost Art of Innkeeping. It's super easygoing and peaceful to play, and I love that it has a mystery behind just improving the manor. There's no worrying about combat, farming, or fishing. You just focus on improving the town and your inn and figuring out the mystery in the manor. I cannot recommend this game enough for people who love cozy gaming. It's very addicting. Please give it a shot! 10/10

I've played this game through twice, exclusively in complete 8 hour sessions. I do not know why I find it so addictive. I have to recommend it.
