There's a really annoying bug where the gold value doesn't update when purchasing an item, so it looks like you have more gold than you do.
The core idea is really good. The mix of auto battle and economy using zombies is neat. However, the game is also clearly not finished. If it were in early access in this state, I'd understand, but it isn't. I'll give some examples: You create your zombies using multiple organs. (Brain, Heart, Lungs, Liver and Intestines) But there is nothing special about any of them. A zombie made from 5 brains, 5 lungs or a mix can have the same attributes. Is there a bonus, when you use all different organs? Or a malus when you repeat organs? Well, if there is, then I never noticed... This is one of the most important features in the game and it is clearly not done. There are some serious bugs that you can use to cheese the game. Enemies sometimes drop demon parts, which can be used for bonuses. But once you have 4 of them, you can just abuse a bug for infinite gold. The same goes for zombie health and damage. So, yeah: Neat idea for a game, but in it's current state it's at best on par with a beta version. And yes, I realise, that it is very cheap, but it's still unfinished.
So much about this game appealed to me - the dark gory themes, the genre blending, interesting mechanics - but after only a little while Praise Dead's charm wore off and I found myself bored. It feels bad to leave a bad review because of that voice that still wants to like the game, but if I can't even to bring myself to give it another go for the sake of a more 'fair' review, I can't in good faith recommend it.
+Cool aesthetics and idea +SFXs are pretty neat -Feels extremely unfair; e.g. you might get a wave with an armored enemy that you cannot damage -> not enjoyable -Music = Disappointment. I wouldn't recommend the game for myself. ............................................________........................ ....................................,.-‘”...................``~.,.................. .............................,.-”...................................“-.,............ .........................,/...............................................”:,........ .....................,?......................................................\,..... .................../...........................................................,}.... ................./......................................................,:`^`..}.... .............../...................................................,:”........./..... ..............?.....__.........................................:`.........../..... ............./__.(.....“~-,_..............................,:`........../........ .........../(_....”~,_........“~,_....................,:`........_/........... ..........{.._$;_......”=,_.......“-,_.......,.-~-,},.~”;/....}........... ...........((.....*~_.......”=-._......“;,,./`..../”............../............ ...,,,___.\`~,......“~.,....................`.....}............../............. ............(....`=-,,.......`........................(......;_,,-”............... ............/.`~,......`-...............................\....../\................... .............\`~.*-,.....................................|,./.....\,__........... ,,_..........}.>-._\...................................|..............`=~-,.... .....`=~-,_\_......`\,.................................\........................ ...................`=~-,,.\,...............................\....................... ................................`:,,...........................`\..............__.. .....................................`=-,...................,%`>--==``....... ........................................_\..........._,-%.......`\............... ...................................,<`.._|_,-&``................`\..............
TLDR: It's a nice little game and I give it a cautious recommendation. However be wary that it can get very repetitive and requires a lot of clicking. --- You play as a necromancer in a world in such a turmoil that you are a "good" guy. Using your zombies to protect a village you are trying to survive another day while managing various resources. There are three phases. First, you manage resources you have. You start by getting tax income from the living villagers you have and sometimes you also get an event. You buy new body parts, rebuild your zombies, buy new equipment and relics (passive items)... You can also buy some more general upgrades in various shops. You can also preview the next enemy wave and enrage them for more rewards. Second, you assign your zombies to work in various ways. Building barricades (you lose barricades upon losing a battle, if you reach 0 you lose the run). How effective they are is based on their stats AND randomised "activity slots" which offer a multiplier (at least 1x). So if you see that everything in the field has 1x multiplier this might not be worth it this turn unless you are losing villagers due to hunger. On the other hand, if everything in the mining slots is lik 3-7x you can mine a lot so you prioritise that. Third, the battle. In the first phase you previewed the wave and bought your body parts and equipment. In the second you strengthened you barricades and gained some energy for casting spells. Now you will fight. You set the order in which your zombies march in. You can also cast spells on both friends and enemies before the battle starts (faster attack, more health, decrease damage, deal damage). You then start the battle and intervene with your spells. After the battle you get some stuff depending on whether you won or lost and if the enemy was enraged or boss. Then you go back to the first phase. The artstyle is nice and sound design and music, while somewhat minimal, get the job done. First things first. If you bought the game for being an auto-battler (ie. wanted lighter game play or less clicking) you were mistaken. The battle phase is only a part of the game and it's relatively short. Everything else has to be done by you and it's all very mouse heavy. The only quality of life things there are are that you can enable RMB organ recycling when in one shop, RMG organ placement when building zombies (both of which mean you don't need to drag and drop) and backspace when building zombies disassembles them (hate this one because I activate it all the time when trying to rename zombies instead). There is not that many items or events (although there are quite a few). There are various difficulties and different player characters (sprite + some bonuses and starting items) and meta-progression. But after a few tries, unlocking the next difficulty and the next character (which I didn't use because I like the first one more and runs take an hour) I feel like there's not much to do. All the upgrades are passives and introduce very little new, only make some numbers bigger. And the starting items are few, generic (I am pretty sure you can buy them as other necromancers) and really impact the game only early. It just becomes a chore really quick. Not every game has to be either a masterpiece or a revolution. This one really needs some QoL improvements. New buttons I'd like to see: Phase 1 - Auto-upgrade organs so you don't have to search where to place every single one. - Mass recycle all organs in inventory except demon ones. - Mass recycle all organs in inventory. - Mass scrap all equipment in inventory. - Fill slots with demon organs (in demonologist shop, one button for each upgrade, takes in lowest rarity first)\ Phase 2 - Auto-assign zombies. (I don't care if it's not the most efficient way OR you could add buttons that could allow me to maximise something, say I want to prioritise mining so computer will assign zombies in such a way that gives me the most iron possible and leaves the surplus unassigned) - Rearrange zombies in an activity. (button next to each activity, reshuffles zombies place on that activity for the maximum gain) Phase 3 - Add different "stances" to rearrange zombies: Weakest to front. Strongest to front. Bulkiest to front. Bulkiest last. Unarmed to front. Unarmed to back. Ranged to back... Would these suggestion make the game easier? Not really. You can do all of those actions yourself. But it would make the game so much faster.
This is a very tentative 'recommended'. I like the idea, and in sale it's very fun for a few hours, but there's a few flaws that make it hard to recommend full price. - The music is very repetitive, basically just a few notes repeating themselves. - The combat is very basic. There is a lot of fun to be had constructing the zombies, but not so much using them in combat. - The game is very buggy, things I encountered: parts duplicating themselves after equipping, gold not updating after buying a part, my first run that I won didn't register as such, villager loss because of lack of food is inconsistent, sometimes you lose barricade while no demons got through. - There was an event near the end of the game where I suddenly lost all my zombies, gear and parts included. Not sure if this was intended, but losing everything after investing so much rescources just feels bad. - I just spend 15 minutes in a fight against a demon with 90% dodge rating and 1500% lifesteal. I think it would have taken at least 15 more minutes to actually kill it. Still, on sale it was 3,90, which is a fair price to me, just don't expect it to be a polished experience.
Really bad game, avoid at all costs, do not waste money on this and move on
