The Letter is an interactive, horror/drama visual novel inspired by classic Asian horror films, Ju-ON: The Grudge and The Ring. Told through an immersive branching narrative, the game puts the players into the shoes of seven characters as they find themselves falling prey to a vicious curse plaguing the Ermengarde Mansion for centuries.
In this game, your choices will shape and drive the story forward: will you mend a relationship on the verge of collapse, or will you let it fall apart? Will you risk saving them, despite the consequences, or leave them to die a gruesome death? The fate of all the characters is in your hands.
This is a hardcore visual novel with over 700K words. Expect a lot of reading!

One of the better horror-themed visual novels, and it is partly voice acted that I really love. But it is an achievement printer, and the constant achievement-popping is annoying in the first playthrough.
Dont trust the reviews its not even a game It should be a free youtube video NOT A GAME! U get literally nothing to do, just sit and listen/read boring BORING BORING dialogue REALLY bad artstyle that reminds me of terrible phone games with 1000 ads like Homescapes Literally the worst game ive ever played (or in top5 list) AVOID AT ALL COST!
This game is absolutely phenomenal. From the artwork, to the storyline, full voice acting, and the jumpscares. You can tell a lot of love was put into this game and how every choice was planned out to lead the player down certain routes/endings. I really appreciate how each choice has a consequence whether big or small that can influence other characters' routes. It's really interesting to be able to experiment with that and see each of the characters' deaths, good or bad endings and everything between. Even after playing through this game MULTIPLE times there's still lots of content to be had with finding new dialogue and achievements. I HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone interested in a captivating story about a silly, little haunted piece of paper and all of Isabella's friends that get dragged into this.
Nice story, characters and gameplay overall!
great story, i'm late, but the story, the dialogue, the gameplay itself, 10/10
I'm truly torn about my mixed feelings towards this game. On one hand we have an amazing, beautifully drawn novel with great voice acting and creepy atmosphere - and on the other hand we have unnecessary extreme racism and misogynistic views from one specific character. I'm aware that his character needed to be portrayed as an entitled aristocrat therefore including his nasty attitude and views, but I also believe that his portrayal could've been done in a less extreme fashion. Just 3 hours or so into the novel, he already uses the hard R and when that happened, it completely turned me off to the rest of the game. It was just really hard to look past it as it left a nasty taste in my mouth for the rest of the game. Aside from that, I enjoyed the creepy factor of the novel in general, there were plenty awesome jumpscares, and it did a great job with eerie background noises as well. The novel reminded me of the vhs movie concept from the movie The Ring, along with the paranormal factor from the movie The Grudge. Absolutely loved the friend group dynamic, and all the different personalities within them. It truly felt like watching a horror movie at times which was super cool. I sometimes found myself so immersed, that the QTE's would scare me and bring me back to reality- all just to fail it in seconds lol. All in all, I give the experience a 6/10 sadly because of the heavy and unnecessary way Luke's lines were written. If those specific racist lines weren't written so horribly, I would've loved to do more play-throughs, but I can't read those parts all over again. p.s I was highly disappointed when I unlocked the achievement for refusing to sleep with Luke and it only had like 30% global unlock rate...ugh
The Best Visual Horror Game, Good game play Mechanics and Nice story But the Good Ending its Unsatisfied.
Played this game long ago on my phone but never finished it, so when it came to steam I was like shoot I remember this and can finished it finally. Even years later it still holds up nicely, it really is a well made visual novel with fleshed out characters and numerous branching paths. I originally intended to 100% it but the branching paths are so numerous that after 2-3 days of skipping through the story to get all the branches i missed I still have half left, and that just became boring.
