Overall an okay atmospheric walking simulator. It's $2 and if you get it on sale it's even cheaper, so I wasn't expecting anything huge. Unfortunately it gets a meh from me, the atmosphere couldn't really help me ignore the problems. The BIG complaint I have is the first area is just too open and is too easy to get lost because there's no landmarks. There's also no way to know what items you have found and what you're missing, so even though. I spent a half hour looking for a single item that I couldn't find. This could be mitigated in an update or something with a map, or something that could help me not re-tread the same areas over and over because again, there's little in terms of landmarks, so I couldn't even TELL half the time if I had been there before. Eventually If found it and the second area was MUCH better. Easily half the size, and visible landmarks, still didn't know what I had but it was much more fun to search this area. In the end I completed the game, and it was meh, I didn't feel compelled to do more searching ESPECIALLY in that first map so I looked up a guide to get the rest of the hidden collectables. If you want to kill an hour or so and don't mind searching big open empty maps? Might be worth $1 if you get it on sale or something, but I can't recommend unless you're REALLY bored.
Short and sweet. Just like I remembered on the Wii U :)
The Letter is a true love letter (ahaha) to horror games. The story is a mystifying one, shrouded in secrecy, and you must uncover the truth before it’s too late. The unique areas, like a construction site and a desolate medical center, provide an atmospheric and unsettling experience. Some might say the first area is a bit large, but it adds to the eerie vibe. The game keeps you guessing, and if you’re astute enough, you’ll realize there are more tricks hidden beneath the surface. The ending is truly something to behold, and the story becomes even more intriguing the further you go. Be sure to unlock all the achievements for the full experience, as they add so much depth. Highly recommend!
Scooby doo and friends solve a murder case. bad dialogue and flat, annoying characters. Super obvious plot and no character growth. Boring gameplay, no depth, no interesting environments, terrible game, do not play.
The Letter is a love letter (ahaha) to horror games themselves. A mystifying story shrouded in secrecy unfolds in front of thee, and you must seek out the truth, lest you end up like your father. The game has many distinct areas, all with a unique design. From a construction site, to a desolate medical center. Many things, many things. One might say the first area is too big, but it is a tad atmospheric! You might say that! You may hazard a guess to the true meaning of the story, but if you’re very astute the game may have more tricks up its sleeve than you could ever imagine. The ending of the game is something to behold, and there’s only more intrigue as you carry on. I recommend getting all the achievements, as you are missing out on the full experience otherwise. Oft I imagine one posing the question: “for who is this game for?” And I would simply answer, “for the fans of games themselves”. Thank you and The Letter.
Honestly, I've played worse. After the bedroom, which is essentially a very short tutorial level, the first actual level(the valley/jobsite) pretty much nails the horror atmosphere. Then it kinda goes (intentionally) more and more silly after that, with the next level feeling very "gamey" with its platforming(as opposed to the previous level, where it kinda made sense), among other things. And the next two(possibly three) levels aren't really levels, as they're practically on par with the bedroom "level". The story is straight forward, and like the rest of the game doesn't take itself too seriously. If I was expecting a serious horror experience, I can imagine being let down, like those people who played this on WiiU and really disliked it. But going in with an understanding that that's not what this is, made it an enjoyable enough experience. Gameplay wise there's some simple, first person platforming that actually works fine. It really doesn't require much, if anything, of you either. But it's there. Other than that, you walk around and pick up items, including some that are optional and can unlock a secret ending. Basically, this is very much a walking sim with very minor platforming and collecting elements. It's technically possible to die by falling onto spikes, but extremely unlikely. The one thing I think this game could do with, is a way to see what items you've collected. The game can be completed in about 30 minutes. 100% in roughly 1 hour for me, as I needed two playthroughs for that. (But it can be done in one.)
