https://store.steampowered.com/app/378270/Putrefaction/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/567060/Putrefaction_2_Void_Walker/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/715690/Putrefaction_2_Rumble_in_the_hometown/
More broken, more repetitive & more dull, compared to the main entry. Expect getting bored to tears, constantly stuck in geometry and the sponge enemies that sometimes get 4 times as spongy due to some damage multiplier bug. Nothing stands out about this 'add-on' that adds nothing, and with the dour looking urban / industrial locales and zombie enemies you'd be excused to mistake this game for Slaughtering Grounds or any other generic asset-flip Unity FPS. Pass!
Pretty good game for €1 by a single developer. Short but good.
"Putrefaction 2: Rumble in the hometown" is, well, right on the border of what an asset flip consists of. Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. However, the assets have been assembled into some semblance of a game... a lot of work went into making this somewhat mediocre product. It's certainly not good enough that it would ever be handled by a professional game publisher. It's a very basic level based FPS game where you shoot asset flipped zombies. There's a bit of polish beyond most asset flips, with customisable controls and resolution, and a couple of visual tweaks thanks to Unity. If the developer had been honest and not resorted to plagiarism, this might even have escaped the pure asset flip epitaph. The plagiarised game assets are far from bleeding edge, with lowish polygon counts and somewhat low resolution textures, making this look like it's at least 10 years old. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks poor in comparison to more professionally produced games as a result of their decisions. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 10 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. A lot of the reviews for this game are "joke" reviews, like "This game cured my cancer, saved my marriage" etc... the positive review score should be taken with a grain of salt due to these insincere reviews. "Putrefaction 2: Rumble in the hometown" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
And again great work. Oleg pls tell me what can't I just buy the whole soundtrack it is fcing pleasent sooo pleasent. Fantastic art work again that music muuuaaahhhh <3
Funny game
I really wish this standalone expansion was just more of the same, but it simply isn’t… while the technical aspects are retained in the same form and nothing about the quick movement has been altered, the change of setting and a drastic drop in level design quality accumulate to an awful note Oleg concluded his series on: it’s sad that I have to admit, but Rumble in the Hometown is easily the worst of all 3 games. Whereas the base game was all about defeating ancient beings abusing their powers to hurt the innocent, the story here is almost non-existent to begin with: the Void Walker, now back on his home planet, wakes up in his oddly empty apartment to find zombies roaming the streets. What’s left to do? The only thing our nameless protagonist is good at: shoot them mother@#kers, of course! By the way, the campaign is completely devoid of any dialogue or commentary and to some degree, I’m glad that’s the case as the base game’s writing missed the mark anyway. Instead of 9 levels, you blast your way through 4 scenarios: the corset-alleys with pathetically small arenas, a sewer level (everyone loves these!), a tunnel system with even more pointless corridors and the final central park battle with an insultingly difficult boss that luckily can be dealt with quicker if you purchased the double-damage upgrade for your MP40. Mhm, about that: both the progression and firearm-enhancements are kept the same and the body count of all levels combined is probably higher than the base game, yet somehow there is just barely enough energy to max out 2 guns and only one stat column at best. There is no new guns, the laser-rifle has been left out and enemies are reskinned versions of the previous bestiary, but with less variety. The soundtrack adds a few more tracks, but continues to be the same 10-seconds-loop you’d rather turn off in the options. The majority of all secrets are items placed in plain sight and are hard to miss, thus discouraging exploration. I didn’t encounter any major glitches, except falling through the floor once: it could almost pass as a trademark easter-egg. The only positive aspect about Rumble in the Hometown is the absence of dark environments and only because I can't think of anything else. At least you obtain 20 achievements in less than 2 hours with little effort. As for my final verdict, this DLC didn’t need to exist and you wouldn’t want to be met with such a letdown after playing through the well-paced Doom 2016 clone that is Void Walker. I don’t know if we’ll ever see Oleg’s work or perhaps even a third Putrefaction entry but he should most definitely continue fleshing out the foundation he established with the second game and certainly not this dismissible garbage.
A cheap looking FPS with pretty lumpy combat, dull weapons, no cohesive enemy design and rather poorly made levels. AI is similarly simplistic either hanging back and pinging you from a mile away or heading straight towards you and camping on top of your face. There`s always something not right when your shot misses an enemy by sticking straight through him and out the other side. It`s got the usual monsters like Zombies but also Gangs, Luchadors, bare-chested samurai guys and some Vin Diesel/The Rock hybrid dude that barely flinches when you shoot him in the face point blank with a shotgun. Some enemies die in 1 hit others take 4 from the same guns. I`m still not sure if head shots are a thing or not ? None of it matters if the game is fun to play and while it`s not terrible it`s not exactly good either. If the weapons felt like they had some impact or the enemies were better fun to fight but like a lot of the cheaper FPS clones none of it really feels that good. Also the end boss fight must have glitched as I ended up on the outside of the arena trying to pick him off with a machine gun as the heavy weapons simply wouldn`t shoot through the barrier. Took a while but it was probably way easier. It`s cheap and silly enough I didn`t hate it.
Putrefaction 2: Rumble in the Hometown, developed and published by Kazakov Oleg, is a standalone expansion to the original Putrefaction 2: Void Walker, released in October 2017. The game continues the series’ fast-paced, arcade-style first-person shooter formula, placing players in the role of the Void Walker, who must defend his hometown from a fanatical cult worshipping ancient gods. Combining high-octane combat, intricate level design, and a dark, immersive atmosphere, the game offers both a continuation and an expansion of the core mechanics that defined its predecessor. The gameplay focuses on rapid movement and relentless action, requiring players to think quickly and respond to threats with precision. Players navigate through urban environments filled with waves of enemies, environmental hazards, and hidden secrets. The addition of new enemy types and varied attack patterns forces players to adapt their strategies on the fly, keeping the combat engaging and challenging. The arsenal of weapons, from conventional firearms to more exotic tools of destruction, allows for diverse combat approaches, though success often depends on mastering the game's speed and timing. The difficulty is intentionally high, appealing to fans of hardcore shooters who enjoy testing their reflexes and strategic thinking. Visually, the game maintains the gritty, industrial aesthetic of the Putrefaction series. The hometown is depicted as a decaying urban landscape, with detailed textures and atmospheric lighting that enhance the sense of tension and danger. While the graphics are not cutting-edge, they are effective in conveying the oppressive, chaotic environment that complements the game’s fast-paced combat. Enemy designs are distinctive, and level layouts are crafted to encourage exploration while simultaneously challenging the player’s reflexes and decision-making skills. Audio design plays a crucial role in reinforcing the game’s intense atmosphere. The soundtrack is energetic and often tense, heightening the sense of urgency during combat encounters. Sound effects, from the firing of weapons to the impacts of enemy attacks, are crisp and satisfying, providing immediate feedback and immersion. Together, the audio elements complement the visual and gameplay design, creating a cohesive sensory experience that keeps players engaged and on edge throughout each level. Critically, Rumble in the Hometown has been praised for its challenging gameplay and faithful expansion of the Putrefaction formula. Players appreciate the intensity of combat, the variety of enemy encounters, and the attention to level design. While the game’s steep difficulty curve may be intimidating for newcomers, it offers a rewarding experience for those who enjoy mastering tough, fast-paced shooters. The addition of new content and the standalone nature of the expansion make it accessible to both returning fans and newcomers willing to embrace its challenge. In summary, Putrefaction 2: Rumble in the Hometown successfully builds upon the foundations of the original game, offering a challenging and engaging first-person shooter experience. Its combination of rapid combat, detailed urban environments, atmospheric audio, and high difficulty creates a compelling experience for players seeking a hardcore, adrenaline-fueled adventure. While it may not appeal to those looking for a casual experience, fans of fast, intense shooters will find a rewarding and memorable game in this standalone expansion. Rating: 7/10
