Great indie roguelike, quite close to Isaac with some interesting new mechanics. I've been playing since alpha, and there's already a nice pool of items, which allows for fun builds and combos. It's also nice that the dev takes feedback and ideas into account !
This game is a bit like the OG Star Trek. It's not much to look at but it is fun and has a sense of adventure.
If you like Isaac, then you should enjoy this one. Positive - Lots of items even if the game is still in Early access - You will have to choose to explore longer and find more items/pickups, but take the risk to be overwhelm by enemies - You can choose to increase the run difficulty like in Hades - Pirates ! Negative: - the "manipulate the item pool" mechanism is very basic (like a skill tree), I hope the dev will improve that at release
Video: https://youtu.be/oG-Er24QSlk If you enjoyed The Binding of Isaac you're going to likely have a good time here. It's a pretty fun arcade style game where you clear various rooms on your way to a boss. Defeat 5 floors at the moment, multiple bosses and enemy types, many weapons and combos, and gameplay that gets right to the action. Visually the rooms could use a bit of variation so we're not always seeing the same kind of brown, reddish brown? Auburn? I don't know my colors, but I do know there's not a huge variation in what we see during our treks. I'd of liked to have seen more variation for each floor, but perhaps that'll come in the future. There's a fairly varied amount of enemies, and bosses will occasionally appear as mini-bosses. Personally I'm a big fan of how the game looks because it reminds me of some late 90s era DOS games I'd play. Memories of the past aren't always easy to come by, so I relish the things that give me this sense of happy nostalgia. Not a ton of music going on, and the sound effects could use a bit more to them. There's sound when the enemy dies, but not always when you're attacking. Minor complaint, but hopefully we get a change in the future. Pretty catchy tunes though. I played 3 of the characters available, which all feel pretty close to the same. They essentially have a starting trait that'll help you out, but otherwise I think you're good to go with any of the characters you choose. Rather fun experience that takes about 30 minutes or so to do a full run.
My playthrough: https://youtu.be/lhCt0D2iM8U Overall: 5/10, Average Graphics: 4/10, Average, feels amateurish. Audio: 5/10, Average Gameplay: 7/10, • I thought the easy mode was the "normal mode," like in other games, but it's indeed VERY easy. I reached the ending(?) in 24 minutes with no challenge at all, it's TOO easy. • I love that I can get the most broken OP ♥♥♥♥ ever, like fire projectiles + fork + bleed + 20% culling + bigger projectiles. Some games are too conservative with this type of broken combo, so great job here. • That said, I think items are too powerful with negligible downsides. It's always a straight upgrade, there's no need to think about whether to pick it up or not. • The fog level is too thick. • I finished the game without pressing space to drink or something even once, so maybe make it more relevant? • Some monsters need a visual indicator or telegraph for when they'll attack. For example, the bird one that dashes at you at intervals, basic "glowing red" or something would be enough. • Those flying arrows or whatever in the first levels are so annoying, they add no challenge and just waste my time shooting them down. • A clearer indicator on explosive barrels would be good, for example, make them red? • Those cannons on the walls sometimes shoot simple bullets, and sometimes they shoot huge-ass streams of fire. Again, a visual indicator would be welcome, maybe a fire symbol on the door? • Bosses are too easy with uninteresting patterns, the only one that piqued my interest was the final? boss, which can ......... your items. (Leaving blank for spoilers.) But even then, it was still too easy. Bugs: • When pressing left on the left door, the character moves up. • When the sword boss dies and disappears, it still summons the last set of swords seconds later. • When I reached the room with four rewards, after picking one, the others disappeared, but I could still get them by bumping into them, so I got all four rewards. Maybe this isn't intended? • Those summoning circles stay far too long, even when no more monsters are going to spawn. • Lacks sound effects for many things, such as the boss introduction scene when the name appears, buying potions, opening doors, etc.
