Game is a very cool horror point and click adventure with a great art style that puts a dark twist on the work of Doctor Seuss, or... is it a more cartoony twist on the dark world of H.P. Lovecraft? The gameplay is very solid though takes a bit of getting used to. Characters are all some form of mysterious and interesting or charming and fun. The continuous rhymes and dialogue are an impressive and very well done aspect of the game as well. The world of Seussian-Eldritch beings and mad science monsters is so incredibly fascinating that I hunger for more from this universe and hope to see more from it in the future in one way or another. Functionally there is the occasional glitch but the developers have been doing a very good job of touching things up, fixing things, and adding to the game after release. So if it's not to your personal liking as it is right now I'd say consider coming back later and giving it another shot then. Game is not at all system intensive so you don't need an expensive gaming PC to play which is always good. Menus are also easy and clear to navigate though things like the collectable text entries could use a "New"/"Unread" icon next to them when you first add them to your inventory. The instrument based text voices are very charming, and the voice acting as very well done. Especially the guy who plays Doctor Morose himself, I bet that guy is so cool and really hot in real life. I have absolutely 0 bias when it comes to this specific opinion... Definitely an amazing labor of love by some passionate people, and pretty solid for their studio's first published game. Would definitely recommend it for any horror gaming fan, especially any looking for something that really deviates from what you tend to see dominate the market these days.
This game was honestly really great, A eight out of ten, I would rate. The music, atmosphere, and the Doctor Seuss artstyle gives this game a lot of charm, Though the gameplay is slightly a bit rough, that doesn't do the game harm. The gameplay is still fun, and it managed to spook me a bit, (Especially one certain part, that moose monster thing can go eat spit.) I am also a sucker for rhyming, that much is true Even though I suck at it, the rhyming in game was fun, and clever too! Its no surprise then, as this review comes to a close, I'd recommend this game, ten dollars is worth it for The Island of Doctor Morose.
Genuinely love this game, it's charming and delightful fun. Not too hard, and I didn't really have any moments I'd describe as pixel hunting or moon logic. One puzzle was a *bit* more of a stretch, in that I didn't realize I had the right answer but didn't click the center to 'submit' it, but honestly aside from that I didn't have any moments that felt unreasonable. The game isn't too long, honestly just about the perfect length for the price. I'll be watching the devs for future projects for sure! Only drawback is that I am now expecting everything outside the game to rhyme, but hey, there's worse fates.
This game was gorgeous and very well made. It has a few quirks in its puzzle solutions, but I expect that from point-and-click adventure style games. That aside, this was astounding, the writing had me genuinely thinking in rhyme for a while, and I just wanted to find every little thing to click on and read. Kudos to the whole team!
i may or may not have grown addicted to speedrunning this game, the story is well written, the environments are fun to explore, and the characters are lovable. please support the devs in anyway you can
Great game with an interesting story and wonderful visuals! Can't wait for the next update!
This game accomplishes everything it sets out to do perfectly! The art style could not be more accurate to what inspired it. From start to finish, I was impressed by the character designs. Especially the shopkeeper; he was so fun to visit. Even something as simple as a spiders-web is depicted in such a creative way. Writing-wise, you got yourself a cute little Lovecraft story here that's honestly pretty engaging. While I played, I was worried the constant rhyming would get old after a while; but it really really doesn't (it actually made me want to click on just about everything just to see how what rhymes it brought about). The only criticisms I would have for the game were the occassional bugs/jank I encountered; but reloading a save takes no time at all, so it's easy to overlook. I highly recommend playing it for yourself!
good game
Good game with amazing style. Very original. I am afraid the Walking Antler will walk into my dreams one day.
Story was truly inspiring, the character designs were absolutely admiring. The chases and enemies were frightful and mean, but terrifying as they may seem, their music and battles were supreme. The map design was truly impeccable, And the corresponding area music was unforgettable. 10/10*, would recommend to a friend.
