I'm really enjoyed this puzzle game! The levels are challenging but not frustrating, and the graphics are nice. The variety of puzzles keeps things fresh, and the hints are helpful when I get stuck. The game's relaxing atmosphere is perfect for unwinding, and the music is pleasant If you like puzzle games, you'll probably enjoy this one. Recommended!
A solid escape room experience with well-designed puzzles. The progression feels rewarding, and the environments are varied and immersive.
In 2023, Flat Cat Games released The Lab Escape Room which was a fun puzzler that required the player to interpret the environment, looking for patterns and identifying clues. I liked the game and was delighted to see a second title from this developer. I jumped into The Island Escape Room and had a good time exploring and puzzling my way around the island. The focus of the game is on puzzles, with only a bare hint of a backstory. The island is divided into distinct areas which are accessed in sequence. Each area contains a set of puzzles which are solved by discovering hidden clues. Some are stand-alone and require nothing extra. The good news is that there was only one mechanical puzzle (a slider) which I survived. Solution clues tend to be found close to each puzzle which means you do not need to do a lot of wandering. While puzzles are point-and-click, you can freely move around the environment using the WASD keys. There are no voice-overs and the background is instrumental music. I admit that I turned my headphones off, as I prefer the quiet when I’m busy thinking. There is a spoiler-free hint system that points you towards the clue or provides some extra insight. Puzzles cannot be skipped and all must be completed to progress to the next area. To help those who get truly stuck or are just feeling lazy, the developer has posted a full solution guide on the Steam Forum. I thought the puzzles were quite fair. Once I started looking for clues in the immediate vicinity of each puzzle, I progressed at a steady rate. At no point did I end up hopelessly stuck or frustrated. With one exception, achievements are earned by progressing through the game. There are notes to collect along the way which will earn you the final achievement but add little to the story. Notes are all in plain sight if you are paying attention and searching each area before moving on. For those who enjoy Escaping the Room and are not looking for characters or stories, I recommend The Island Escape Room. It took me about 4 hours to complete. For me, it was the right level of challenge to hold my interest without requiring extensive mental gymnastics. Fun puzzleish game. Kind of cozy (music is really nice), but puzzles are quite challenging and demand the best of you. I had to make some breaks because my brain was melting. A little better than the Lab (previous game from the same guys). Works really nice on steam deck too.
Amazing game! The puzzles are clever and just the right level of challenging and the environments are beautifully designed, is very fun! Love it!
Positives up front: It looks fine, sound scape is fine. it is a bit of fun. Now to the rest: the puzzles are crytic and illogical. Some do not seem to have hints in the environment or there are no hints to the environment. The hint system has only one stage and is either vague or gives away the solution. The story as it is is meh. If it were not there no one would notice. There are collectible notes in the world but at least was not able read them as in I was unable to see letters on the papers. Some kind of show text option would have been nice. It was mostly tedious and not much fun. Also there is a sliding block puzzle. The devs created a guide but it is basically the solutions. So the all or nothing option. There is often not even an explanation on what one should do. If you can get it for really cheap give it a go. Otherwise nah. At least there is a demo to try. Score: 4/9
What a great escape room game! The puzzles are challenging and satisfying without being frustrating. The interface is smooth and easy to use. Recommended if you like this type of game.
Some puzzles are insoluble and hints are no help at all. Gave up in the last room trying to solve the filing cabinet puzzle.
Enjoyable and thoughtfully crafted. The puzzles are logical and satisfying to solve, with just the right level of difficulty. Visuals and sound design add to the immersion. A good pick if you like escape room games with a clear structure.
Very solid escape room game. Love the island vibes and how it slowly pulls you down the rabbit hole, and the puzzles are smart in a not annoying way (you know, a common sin in this kind of games). Exploring around can also be a lot of fun if you have the time for it. If you like solving stuff without too much hand-holding, give it a try.
