A new take on the genre of survival, it dares to ask the question "Why bother surviving?" 9/9
Will check back later because survival games are my jam, but it isn't ready. Graphics: dated. Though jungle interiors can be quite beautiful at times, assets are endlessly repeated, and the rock formations and sand/dirt look like something from the PS2 era. Your avatar, a female in shorts and a tank top, is always visible when you look down, but because of the low detail this breaks immersion rather than strengthening it. UI: Mostly not there, which is good if that's your thing. Food and water meters have no indicators to draw your attention to them as they get critical, and because they're so unobtrusive you kind of forget they're there. Suddenly you're breathing hard and limping, which is your cue to eat or drink. Icons could definitely use some work (the crafting book for example). Crafting has both your recipe book and your inventory laid out in front of you physically, similarly to Green Hell, but every item is represented by only one of itself. 1 wood looks the same as 45 wood. Because of this it isn't possible to see at a glance how much of something you have, you must mouse over individually, which is clunky. Gameplay: Basic, yet unexplained. No surprises here, shift to sprint, e to pick stuff up. Crafting recipes are strange in their requirements, with 15 wood, 15 stone, 5 cloth to make a starter axe. When crafting, you right click an item from your inventory and it appears in the middle crafting area, but no matter how many you move to the crafting area, visually you only see one. So again you have to mouse over to double check how much of an item you're crafting with. Crafting an axe for example would require 35 clicks to move all the materials. This needs work. Speaking of crafting, there's no indication in game for how to get cloth, which is needed for starting tools. A dev dropped by the forums and said to kill animals for hemp(?!), which can then be made into cloth. Searched for animals for 15 minutes, never saw one. Unfortunately there's not much here yet to differentiate this from other more complete survival/crafting games, though the devs have a promising attitude. Quick fixes would be to reduce crafting requirements to something more realistic, or at least more reasonable (it takes almost as much wood to craft an axe as it does a building foundation) and have some alternate way to get cloth. I will always try to support folks making this kind of game so I will not be refunding. That said, I can't recommend it at the moment. See how the devs do for the next little while and come have a look again sometime.
BUYER BEWARE!!! This game is obviously not finished, and I don't see any comments from the developers since last year. If you want to throw away 5 bucks, that's fine... otherwise, keep looking. The simplest of tasks is impossible, there is no guide to gameplay, this is basically a halfway-made game. I wish I had read the other reviews before throwing my money away... :(
Totally Rubbish ! not even worth the sale price of 99p imo it looks like a bad copy of stranded deep, there is no info in game on what to do, the animals are lame, the dev does not seem to reply to questions in the forum. The game looks and feels just like a bad asset flip with no work done on it at all. This throws a red flag to me on this game. It is looking more and more like a cash grab as the weeks go by. DO NOT BUY NO COMMUNICATION FROM THIS DEV AND NO WORK BEEN DONE FOR AGES
dont write reviews very often... but this game deserves it. its pretty bad. i spawn in for the first time and there is already an elephant running after me. i freak, run away, straight towards a rhino apparently. i freak AGAIN and run off, straight to a LEOPARD. d*mn it. get away from the leopard and able to get back to spawn point, collect knife and all food n drink n such. no animals were safe from me, fairly easy to kill them. AND THEN THE GIANT SPIDERS STARTED SPAWNING IN. GIANT. SPIDERS. NO THANKS. i couldnt figure out how to get materials for the life of me, figured out how to get sticks, wood, and cloth. but nothing else. rest in peace. mechanics are eh. graphics arent terrible, but eh. giant spiders 0/10 do not recommend.
Honestly, The Island gave me high hopes upon launching (after it immediately crashed the first time). Once I had the game open, I was pleasantly surprised by how in depth the options menu was an all of that good stuff, however, once you get into the game there is no direction to be found. You are thrown onto with a knife, some cookies, some soda, and some big arse animals. It is the Dollar Store version of The Forest, save up a couple more dollars and pleaseeee buy that instead. Good effort developers, try again next time. Add a friggin guide to start the game please. Thanks :) 3/10
I wish I could rate with stars instead of a thumbs down. This game is not terrible I actually really like it but the problem is i'm not sure if the game has been abandoned or if they are working on updates to add to the game. The game is very beautiful but lacks ocean life, the animals take the same amount of damage which is not much and a few other things.
Its a shame that this game was abandoned. I haven't played it very long but I can't make a campfire. I have all of the items in my inventory and when I go to make it, they are taken out of my inventory but there is no campfire there. Can't cook food if I can't make a campfire. I love this type of game but this one is pretty broken and abandoned. Don't waste your money.
It's a good start but it really feels pretty incomplete. Way too much missing yet and a lot of refinement is still needed. It really shouldn't be a full release yet, it's definitely not complete.
