Edit (The dev reached out to me and genuinly wants to try incorporated the criticism into the game.) I respect this game's effort to remake the original but if you're making it 3d lots of things must change. The largest problem with this lack of change is it's just way too easy. Like the enemy's ai is so simple, it doesn't try to flank or anything. It just belines towards you. They're turrets there too, but your fire rate is just too quick for it to be much of a challenge. That and maybe adding some interesting geometry to levels would be nice but may go against the goal of making a 3d adaptation of the game for steam. And like come on, there's so many games that does the whole retro shooter throwback better. Dusk is built off of the same engine but includes enemies that while don't have mindblowing ai, are enough of a threat to pose a challenge. Something else I got to to touch on are the god-awful sound effects used for the menus. They're way too sharp and piercing for my liking that and the music is pretty annoying too. Some positives for this game, the visual style of the game replicates the original game pretty well. Only reason I'm so damn critical on this game is that I want it to be good and I care.
Been a while since I've written a review for a game, but seeing as I'm genuinely interested in seeing this game finished, I might as well give it another go. As a huge fan of action-heavy FPSes, this game does a really good job of tapping into that arcade feel that I love so much despite its simplistic nature and visuals. The gameplay focuses on dashing around enemies while utilizing your projectile weapons to land shots. The weapons are fun enough to play around with. The sound effects that come from your weapons and the sound effects for shots that land and kill enemies have a pop-ish nature to them, which is satisfying to hear. Although some weapons feel overshadowed by others (the Laser vs. the Big Shot immediately comes to mind). But I'm a shotgun enthusiast, and this game's Spread Gun is very satisfying to use, and that's all that matters. The regions in this game are also demonstrated very well. You'll quickly figure out which exclusive hazards or obstacles do and learn to adapt around it. My favorite thus far was walking into the desert region and immediately noticing that there was quicksand in that area because I started sinking a bit. That's some nice silent communication right there. Speaking of the desert region, it also has occasional sandstorms that obscure your vison and push you, which are a little aggrevating because there's no indication when they'll arrive (which actually threw me off one time and pushed me into an enemy, which resulted in my death). I'm not asking that it be removed completely, but just that the game at least gives you a heads up. One thing I see plenty of others criticizing as well is the difficulty. The game really doesn't pick up in difficulty until the final zone in the Early Access beta. A lot of enemies run straight toward you with not goal other than bumping into you. Even the final zone is pretty easy, as it only has a few geniunely hard rooms and recycles the previous regions' bosses, which were easy. The final boss of the beta kicked my butt a few times though, because I had to condition my strafing skills for that fireball attack. Game's also got a good sense of humor. The protaginst has a very nonchalant nature and is more concerned with killing things than actually saving the indie devs. He also often smart-mouths his guide, which usually got a good laugh out of me or two. As for the music? It's really catchy repetitive tunes that never really bothered me. Although I could see it easily annoying someone else. Maybe extend them a bit? Also there's a very obvious loop in the final zone as well as the theme of the final boss, but I'm sure the devs are aware of that. Overall, the game's really solid. With more aggressive and projectile-based enemies to justify your movement, this game has the potential to be an absolute blast. But as the game is in its current state, I still had a really good time.
This game is very simple, very enjoyable and very nostalgiac. It takes the art style of Megaman and puts it into the gameplay of Doom and contains minigames that are essentially mini Starfox levels. Matching the general theme the art and spritework is very simple and appealing to the eyes and helps you identify secrets and what you need to use to progress. The sense of progression is always there as you unlock new weapons fairly regularly. The map assures that you'll never get lost in the grid-style gameworld and its fast-paced combat makes sure youre clearing a typical room in under 30 seconds. For 9 bucks i can recommend it. It's in early access so not finished yet but i feel like i got a fair amount of enjoyment out of it.
Freaking fun, gives me a very much so retro vibes, much like the original doom/wolfenstein games. Ill write more to this when i finish the entire game, but yeah, definitely worth well more than $10 in my opinion.
Always been a fan of these indie games, I love this game in particular because of the rlly easy and intuitive controls, funny and original storyline and most importantly the retro aesthetic of early 3D fps shooters. Highly recommend this game, it's worth it even at its full price, if it ever goes on sale, it's going to be a steal for sure.
Its like The Legend of Zelda meets Wolfenstein 3D
P.S. Играть всем!!!
Game is great, simple shooter, good chalenge just the way i like it. Worth evry penny
Easy but a fun quicky time passer
The game is pure fun nearly all the time. Lots of content and challenge. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's into retro games.
