Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/VSKGb5M5NnA This game does have a fun & challenging core gameplay loop. The problem is that there are some development decisions that hold back the experience for most people. Currently, only 11.7% of players for this game have even beaten the 2nd boss (Bang Bang Bus, not to be confused with the Bang Bus). The gameplay is just not balanced correctly. The game feels too much like a grind where you have to get certain permanent upgrades, before you can get far (at least for most people per the Steam numbers). Gazzlers is a roguelite, 180 wave on-rails shooter. It does have a high skill ceiling. You need to hit your shots, hit the weak spot of enemies, just to keep up with all the enemies on screen or dangers, and a lot of enemies are bullet sponges where you just can't keep up with the damage unless you have both the permanent upgrades and the temporary mod upgrades to be able to kill enemies in a few shots. You also have to decide whether to dodge or block the projectiles, except when they're missiles then you'll need to shoot them down quickly. There is a huge variety of enemies / dangers. The other problem is that many of the mod upgrades are just not worth it. You can basically forget the laser, pellet (shotgun), or overheated gun. They just cannot keep up the damage as you get further in the game. You can use rockets or fire bombs. The best mod upgrades are those that increase damage (especially weakness damage), increase magazine size, or shields. Some upgrades you get can actually be downgrades and you have to pick one. Again, you'll need to grind permanent upgrades to increase your chances of getting far. That's a shame because the game is otherwise fun. The game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps. However, I did experience some frame rate drops & even some micro-stutters on rare occasion. The frame rate drops seemed to effect the reloads as well. You reach out to the ammo to reload and put it near your gun and most times it works, except when the frame rate drops then it seems it only works most of the time. However, that is enough to screw you over as one empty reload is enough to get you killed. Rate 6.5/10. I think with some minor adjustments, this could be a much better experience, especially making various builds viable.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program.
Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me!
Gazzlers is a wave shooter roguelite VR game where you have to shoot this strange monsters ridding bikes, cars and airplanes and in the process you get scraps used for improve your stats as a roguelite. I have a lot of fun play the game but for me it's extremly difficult, I tried on easy mode with all the perks unlock which don't give enought boost for complete the run successfully. You need to be pretty skilled since I was nearly to complete the game on easy mode being the 2nd of the leaderboard. Still it's a good game with a fair target price/hours of gaming.
This game is a very good rails shooter. I enjoy playing it each time I do. It takes a long time to get all the powerups but once you do it makes the game much easier. I look forward to beating the whole run! 8/10, good vr controls, good gameplay, overall fun to play.
GAZZLERS is a paid on-rails VR arcade shooter that features a roguelite-inspired encounter system. It worked on my Index and HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Maybe buy this game, if you like roguelite shooters. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. the game is good my issue is that im forced into a position that makes the game unplayable i have even tried changing my boundary but that doesnt fix the problem
Works on Reverb G2. Rogue-lite standing wave shooter similar to Mothergunship:Forge. It has much less build variety, but feels more dynamic. The combat is frantic and well designed: there are just enough enemies and projectiles on screen to make it challenging without being overwhelming. Enemy shots also make sounds while traveling, allowing dodging them even when looking in another direction. Rogue-lite part is a bit lacking: there are not that many components and mods to install, and a lot of them are mediocre. Also using any equipment, that asks for slow and precise shots is not worth the effort: enemies just move too fast. Stylistic Borderlands-like visuals look nice in VR, despite obviously being designed for Quest hardware. Everything looks sharp and drawing distance is huge. Also animations are really nice: enemies move smoothly and do not clip into each other and environments. It took me 4 hours to beat the game on normal for the first time, than 2 more hours to improve the highscore and try higher difficulties.
A great VR game! I can start a quick game and enjoy some sweet roguelike gunplay. The problem is, I can't stop because I want to find all the coolest gun mod combos!
Just a quick review, I really like this one. It's addictive and fun. There's not a lot of games that make me keep wanting to come back and try to get farther. It's a good workout, and the action is fast paced. Highly recommended.
one of the best VR games out there
