About
On Sunday the 7th of March, 1936, a group of locals made their way up the long, muddy track to Galley House. As far as any of them knew, the house had stood empty for decades.
Inside, they discovered the bloody aftermath of something horrific.
The authorities were summoned, and the crime scene was eventually cleared away. But nobody ever figured out what happened that dreadful night. It seemed likely that no one ever would.
Now, many years later, you have access to a peculiar machine — one that lets you listen in on echoes of the past. Can you piece together the events behind The Incident at Galley House?

I can't believe how such a simple concept could be so much fun. It's a cold case. You must pick a time, a place and who was there. If you pick correctly, you get to watch an event. Every event gives you clues to find other events and unravel the mystery.
Such a unique way to tell a story. Incredible and bittersweet

This is a good mystery death sleuthing game that plays out like a visual novel when you identify a scene correctly. You need to figure out when in the timeline a scene occurred, what room it was in, and who was in the room. Get all three correct and you watch the scene play out. based on conversations you can piece together previous and future scenes to fill in the gaps and find out why everyone in Galley House is dying tonight. The game feels like The Roottrees or Obra Dinn where knowledge begets knowledge. A few times I did brute force a scene by guessing because I didn't feel like I had enough information. I do think the UI is a little clunky at times. especially when you initially start the game.
wow better than roottrees are dead
It's a nice story about an eerie murder mystery, reminding me of the closed room mysteries I enjoy reading. The game mechanics aren't much so go into it expecting an interactive novel more than anything. I liked following the non-linear story telling and figuring out where to go next wasn't too hard, which is something I like because I hate getting stuck for too long. I did use the hint option a couple of times to give me an extra boost when I was about to lose patience with re-reading scenes to find clues, and I liked that the hints came in stages to help you figure it out, but also eventually told you outright where to look once you'd exhausted your own braincells. Overall I can recommend this game and it gave me a similar feeling as when I played Immortality or The Madness of Dr. Dekker.
Another fantastic game in the underexplored "dinn-like" genre of deduction games. Here the Narrative takes center stage, with a massive amount of well written, fully voice acted scenes with a wide cast of characters. Howver the game plays out closer to a visual novel than obra dinn or the roottrees are dead, lacking some of the sprawling deduction required in those. Unlike other games in the genre, you are not trying to find out who people are and information about them (names and relationships are directly stated in various scenes for all characters) instead you must deduce when, where, and who is in each scene to view it. This is what makes the game play out as less of a pure puzzle game and more of a psuedo-linear visual novel. Thankfully the story is incredibly strong so I do not mind it, better than any other dinn-like ive played and had me entirely hooked throughout. I wont spoil the concept but it works amazingly well with the mechanics and there were multiple twists that left me floored with full chills. My only quibble is the very end of the story felt slightly underwhelming but it didn't take too much from the experience. Incident at Galley House sits opposite The Rootress are Dead, the previous game from Evil Trout inc. Rootrees had fantastic deduction and a weaker/less interesting story, whereas incident at galley house lacks the great deduction and makes up for it with narrative. It makes me very excited for future projects as clearly this team can nail story and deduction, just not yet in the same game.
Goes in places you might not expect!
I still feel like Type Help had a little more charm to it, and left the ending a little more ambiguous, this new version was still a lot of fun. If the text-only nature of Type Help turned you off, this is a great way to experience it. I recommend having a notes document open or pen and paper, because you are probably going to want to scribble notes. There is a way to do it in game, but it is easier to do through an app or paper.
