The Incident at Galley House

Great game. If only there was a way I could forget it so I could play it again.

Murder mystery games have many boxes that they need to tick for them to work. Character writing, the plot (and the mystery) itself, the atmosphere - things that are necessary for any similar book or movie as well. One of the main, distinct hurdles that games of the genre have is, of course, the gameplay - the framing of it and the level of interaction the player has. Up till now, my top game that manages to mix and match all of those together has been Return of the Obra Dinn, and boy, is The Incident at Galley House a worthy successor of the title. The atmosphere of this game is phenomenal, with distinct and very lively characters (the voice actors did a fantastic job here, across the board), an incredibly immersive soundtrack, and lovely art-style. The plot itself expands on the original web-version of the game (Type Help), and, having played both, I believe it offers a more complete experience in comparison, embracing, however, the strengths of the original. This game makes me mentally unwell in the most positively distressing way possible. Also, the gameplay makes it extremely satisfying when you figure stuff out - don't know how, but I went "ehehehe" every time I got something right. If you also like going "ehehehe", you should immediately play the game.
