The Great War: Western Front™

In the end this game was cringe.

The Great War ist empfehlenswert, die historischen Ereignisse im 1. Weltkrieg sind sehr gut in das Spiel integriert, auch die Kampfhandlungen sind sehr nah den realen Ereignissen nachempfunden. Das Spiel ist sehr kurzweilig und von der Komplexität noch überschaubar. Diese Spiel ist auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert, allerdings ist es für mich nach knapp 40 Stunden Spielzeit kein Long Player Spiel. Dafür sind die Kampfhandlungen, sowohl im Angriff als auch in der Verteidigung immer sehr ähnlich ohne größere Abwechslung, das auf längere Zeit zu einer Ermüdung führen kann.

The best way to play World War 1 to date. An excellent game!

I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys and understands World War I. It is very faithful to the WWI battlefield experience. Trench warfare is slow and repetitive by nature, but if you pay attention, you will notice that the gameplay evolves alongside technological advances, and the AI also improves throughout the campaign. If you want a real strategic challenge, you can customize the game settings to give the AI much more freedom to create difficult situations, set traps, launch surprise assaults, coordinate concentrated artillery barrages, execute massive infantry attacks (and later tank assaults), reinforce trenches, position troops effectively, and deploy machine guns and mortars intelligently. You can also adjust troop and equipment health, accuracy, morale, damage, response time, and many other parameters, dramatically increasing the difficulty. So, if you want a smart AI that constantly pressures you across the entire front line and forces you to struggle to keep up, it is absolutely possible. A single troop movement or piece of equipment left unattended can cost you months to recover—if you recover at all. In other words, you can tailor the game to your taste. However, it is important to remember that this was a static war: slow-paced, marked by massive casualties, frontal assaults, and the concentration of resources. If you want more movement on the campaign map, I would recommend WWII games instead. But if you want to experience the strategic and military mindset of World War I, this is an excellent game. In summary, do not buy into the complaints about "stupid AI" and repetitiveness. Those players are likely playing on the easier settings and did not realize that you can completely transform the experience through the options menu. For beginners, I recommend leaving the default settings unchanged until you fully understand your tactical and strategic options on both the battlefield and the campaign map. After that, you can modify the settings to make the AI much more aggressive or to simulate the historical advantages and disadvantages of each side, adding another layer of authenticity. I did exactly that, and it gave me one of my best experiences with the game. :)

Я прошёл эту игру на среднем уровне сложности, победил, имел поражения, сделал Германию великой и получил море удовольствия. Что я могу сказать о игре в общем? Кому понравится на 100%: Если вы обожаете созидание, сохранность человеческой жизни, мир и логику, то это игра не для вас. Здесь с двух сторон вы будете побеждать и проигрываться мясом, а танки сделают только ваши потери меньше. Если вы обожаете литературу Ремарка из трилогии о потерянном поколении(Западный фронт, Возвращение, Три товарища) то вам зайдёт стилистика и вся игра в общем. Если вы любите стратегии и сложные игры, то это для вас. Если вы любите тематику ПМВ - качайте и не пожалеете. Особенности: Вы сначала будете всегда проигрывать, а когда поймёте, что оборону нужно строить не линией, а сеткой вокруг точек, то разнесете игру на раз два. Онлайна нету, что очень расстраивает. Именно для этого нужно искать друзей, что бы играть в кооп(а такой есть, просто ни разу не видел открытых комнат для игры*хнык-хнык*) Как историческая игра она хороша, как стратегия тоже, а кто говорит, что она короткая, то они просто не играли по-нормальному. Я прошёл за 54 хода, и то из-за воли нации. Мне понравилось, всем советую!
