Overall a very dope classic side-scroller experience in a flashy, retro, and futuristic slide-scrolling roguelike format. Sorry, maybe that was a mouth full of a description. But yeah, this game is very fun and it feels great to get better and better weapons to blow away more and more enemies and even when you die you don't feel too frustrated because being a roguelike you keep some progress through your upgrades and also it just feels good to get better and quicker at the levels over-time (at least, if you don't pick the permadeath mode, which is available for more hardcore gamers). Banger soundtrack as well, and very surreal yet iconic bosses. Just recently made it past the Mantis and still have yet to beat what I think was intermediate mode (or a similar title of difficulty) but anyway yeah, fun game. My only complaint is personally, though I'm no "snowflake", some of the political themes are a bit on the nose though maybe that's part of the parody/absurdity the developers intended. I will gladly be blessed by a seraphim for free "negative social credit" in the name of the Father. I see this game as having pretty wide appeal, the only requirements to enjoy it are that you like side-scrollers and enjoy shooting things (and appreciating sound design and music is a plus), and don't mind unapologetic "right-wing" themes.
Just played this game this year(2025) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While this style of gameplay not a part of my usual wheel-house. I enjoyed it a great deal, accompanied with a kickass synth soundtrack and hilariously over the top satirical storyline that isn't intrusive and lets you go about replaying levels and taking out enemies as need be to level yourself up and keep pressing through each new stage. Definitely give it a go.
uses AI generation. didn't see it at the time and wanted to support what nintendo did to them. wouldn't have bought it since it used AI. that's about it. will say it's decent but it's incredibly short and a bit lackluster.
good multi stick action
Right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ and white-supremacist ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. There is literally nothing cyberpunk about this. More like cyberbootlicking. ♥♥♥♥ you guys.
First off I'm not a regular retro/platform type of gamer. But this has hooked me. Definitely would recommend. Great game from a great dev team. 10/10.
I played a lot of 2D shooters when was a midget, and playing this game takes me back to those golden ages of 2D shooter games, besides that. pick up gun. inspect gun. brain happy. shoot gun. gun go pew pew. sad head voice goes quiet. shoot enemies. increase thirst to kill more. create chaos. get a adrenaline rush. take guns and kick ass. run out of ammo. resort to fists rebel and chew gum. run out of gum. continue killing.
Easy to pick up and play. Good progression. Plays great on the Steam Deck.
Absolutely love this game. Especially the inclusion of heroes like Joan of Arc and The Red Baron.
I own The Great Rebellion and I am happy. In a gaming landscape filled to the brim with the message™, this game is a breath of fresh air. Finally, the other side of the political spectrum gets their own game. And what a game it is! It was made with love, and it shows. Lots of little inside jokes have me chuckling constantly. TGR is an impressive first project and I hope we’ll see more from this very promising studio.
