This game is a retro-style 2D side-scrolling shooting game. Easy one-button operation. It is expressed with graphics and sounds (MSX) typical of the Japanese 80's. The overall structure is psychedelic and crazy, but that's the kind of game it is, so don't worry about it.

About
It's a pseudo-retro 2D side-scrolling shooter with a variety of gameplay in 8 stages, with visuals (TMS9918A spec V9938 palette) and sound (PSG+SCC) enhanced to mimic the MSX standard popular in Japan in the 1980s. Formerly released for smartphones in 2014 and then passed through Steam Greenlight, the release was delayed for about 10 years due to the production company's busy schedule (Final Re:Quest The Movie). The overall volume of the game has been increased to compensate for this. The controls are very simple and familiar. The player controls a cute little girl with dots, and defeats various enemies with a series of automatic shots. The game is inspired by good old Japanese culture, Gunma's nature and customs, in the 80's style, and the ending may change some by discovering various hidden items in the stage. We aimed to create a simple and kitschy shooting game before the bullet-hell shooters. We hope you will enjoy this game if you are tired of complicated modern games.
For those of you who want a more detailed description, let me add an even more special description! There are a generous 5 aircraft, 2 barriers to withstand enemy bullets, and 5 continues available! Basically, there are 8 stages in total, but there are 3 hidden stages. It may seem like an easy game, but the conditions for the appearance of the third stage are so strict that an ordinary person will not be able to clear it. The only method of attack is shot. There are no soft elements such as bombers. What's more, there are no saves and no achievements. Aren't you tired of competing for watered-down achievements by now? Rest assured that this game does not have them from the start.

Works very well on the Steam Deck! Great fun, varied opponents and environments, visually engaging! Like being cast back in time 30+ years! Also the soundtrack slaps!

Gunma is the greatest. Death to Tochigi. Death to Ibaraki. Curse on Tochigi. Victory to Gunma.
There are many games that are retro inspired, or strive for a retro aesthetic. But there are few games that truly capture the precise essence of the system it seeks to emulate. The Girl from Gunma kai is one such game. Clearly coming from the heart of an artist with complete love for the bygone eras of his gaming youth, The Girl from Gunma kai looks, feels, sounds and plays like it really is a cheap Casio game on the MSX. It is gorgeous in its deliberate flaws, as much as it is gorgeous for shaping beauty through its graphical limitations and its bombastic music. It's also a game of two sides. Casually, playing through the game normally, finding secrets, collecting powerups, you get a simple but enjoyable shmup that takes you on a tour of Gunma. When you try for secret bosses and hidden endings, the game becomes progressively more difficult and a true challenge. And now the elephant in the room: The dancing anime girl. Some people are uncomfortable with the dancing anime on the right, with worry that it might be some kind of sexualized child thing. The character Coyotl is not a child, and the game makes a running gag in how she's never drawn the same way twice - different art in the game and in the instruction manual give her different faces, and the dancing girl on the side is basically her chibi form. It's never sexualized, and is basically just acting as an energetic cheerleader. But since some folks I speak to are put off by it, it Is possible to remove her dancing chibi by disabling the border element in the options menu. Play as you like. So overall, an incredible love letter to the MSX from someone who expertly recreated the experience. Play it for the fun and casual shooting tour through Gunma and its landmarks, play it for an intense challenge that I still haven't fully overcome.
Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
Just brilliant. played the demo alot and needed to get the full game. Seems the dev has something to do with Compile heart (who are releasing a new Aleste game this year I belöieve). It's very good for the reasons the dev gives in the description. Reminds me a bit of Zombie Nation , but this is a much better game imho. Hope to see more games from the dev in the future.
