this is my first review so hopefully it reads okay! this game blew my expectations out of the water. if you are looking for a lesbian-filled, in depth horror story, then you will love this. my partner and i played through the mona route on her account over the last few days and we both absolutely loved it. the ghost of you is a story about gay ladies and the complex world around them. something terrible is going on for poor libretto, and it's upto you to find out why. it took us quite a while to finish one route considering that we assumed a text-based game wouldn't take too long, so value for money was an incredibly pleasant surprise. but what really impressed me about this game was the attention to detail - i've read a few text adventure books in my time, and this was a genuinely unique experience. every room has lots of vivid description and i felt very engaged with the writing. i also thought that the soundtrack was lovely and personally added great atmosphere for me reading it. in short, i would recommend this game to anyone as it is a very unique story, there is nothing out there like it and that was exactly why i decided to buy!
I just finished my first playthrough of this game, and I must say that I am absolutely blown away! The characters, both the main cast and villains alike, are all endearing and loveable in their own ways. Everyone here has a story, and I felt myself driven to uncover as much as I could about everyone, and delightfully frustrated when the answers I wanted dangled just out of reach. The horror was well placed without coming across as cheesey or forced, and the music as well as charming 8bit visuals did an excellent job of setting the mood. What I loved most about this game was the lesbian representation. As a lesbian myself, playing through a game with a cast of characters who are just like me was the most refreshing experience I have had in a long, long time. And the romance absolutely delivers, being one of the most heartfelt experiences I have experienced in a game in ages. The emotions evoked in this game are ones that we can all relate to, and I felt the full spectrum over the course of this game, to the point that I was driven to tears by the end with how attached I had grown to the characters. If you want a good gay experience that both spooks and charms you, then I cannot recommend this game enough, and for only $6, the experience is well worth it!
I haven't finished this game but it let me, in the middle of a super dramatic horror scenario, start flirting with the mysterious minion of the Big Bad who is also a sexy butch priest while my ex was there. RIGHT THERE. And you are going to need a LOT to make me not recommend a game that has that.
I'm not playing games without unhinged lesbian vicars from now on my standards are too high
Don't mind my in-game time since it seems bugged. I have around 14h in by the time of writing this review. I completed one route and got a couple of endings and I'm reading the extras before starting a new one. I liked it very much! You can see there was a lot of love put into this game. Things as simple as random sounds or the text backgrounds, they put a lot of care in every little thing and it shows. The story itself is very entertaining! It makes you want to keep playing and know what gonna happen next, and discover the story behind it all. Characters are good too, made me invested in them and be actually worried they don't die. The romance itself it's cute too (and you can skip it if you are not interested). The experience overall is fantastic. Oh, and it might seem dumb, but I loved the font. Good job! We need more games like this, definitely. Will be throwing money at their next game for sure :) The only thing I didnt like much is that on some puzzles there are no way you gonna do it wrong, because another character will tell you "I dont think thats option is right" unless you pick the correct answer. I felt a bit cheated there lol Let me die a horrible death if I pick wrong. Also I'd like some kind of indicator of which ending I got and which ones are left for me to discover, even if it's not that hard to imagine which is which. But anyway, game is good, buy it and have a good time yourself. In top of that, it's cheap! Also, the chef is a cutie, you can't change my mind.
alright, in my last review, I did not give this game justice.
THIS REVIEW IS SPOILER-FREE.
this is an amazing example of "yes you did not know that word even if your english is fluent" where do I begin? from the attention to detail, to giving the player the freedom of choice, in such a simple novel? I'm all about detail, honestly. The more you describe things, the better. and oh boy did they do that alot! It's one of these storytelling styles where you'd make the story go alive in your head. imagining every detail, every description, every shadow, light, glance, and expression... that's why I enjoy reading in general. but not every writer can achieve this. not every writer makes it *fun* to read and make their characters, their stories, come to life. But this one did it. and it was an absolutely amazing experience, thrilling and fun. Exciting, which just also means thrilling... you get the point. You also have to take in consideration on how many visual novels/novels on steam have choices. Choices and routes, things that you choose, will affect the game, and will result in different outcomes. For this small team, of writer and programmer, this is absolutely outstanding, and I'd be on cloud 9 if I had their skills. I've tried not to sound biased, since I happened to stumble upon this writer's work on "Archive of Our Own" and realized really, I should've given this game the review it deserves. [b] tl;dr - If you like reading, lesbian romance, horror, and if you want to know some music related trivia... then this game is for you.
Have not finished playing yet, but so far I'm loving this game. The music, the simple background really added the gore in the game and hell I love the 8bit looks on it as well. Will do a full review once I finish the game. Couldn't help writing it now because I want it to generate a score lol and too excited to wait.
The Ghost of You is a text yuri horror story. That alone was enough to sell me on at least trying it and I am very glad that I did. I don't have much time to play games with work and life often getting in the way so each game I try is one I want to be able to really enjoy. I can definitely say that this game did that. This is a game that was apparently written and programmed by two people, which is impressive. A great amount of effort went into this product and I think that it really shows - it reads like a horror-mystery-crime novel with the added dynamics of choice, which I loved. It has nicely constructed and well-rounded characters–I really liked Vicar Sterling! There’s good pacing with plenty of fear and tension and a very intriguing plot. There are dead ends that can trip you up unexpectedly, and well-thought out descriptions of the places and people. There are moments within it that will play on your mind. There are very vivid descriptions of unique rooms - I thought the rust room was creepy and full of menace. Each place you’re guided to (as the main character Libretto) has a powerful impact on your imagination. Good storytelling ability is key for a text-based adventure and this game has nailed it. It is not what I would call an easy game to play as you must think about the choices you make. Bad ends can pop up out of nowhere which maintains the tension for me. It has a lot of horror, backed up with sound effects and music that perfectly fits the atmosphere of the game. It expresses universal themes of both grief and love, which I think everyone can relate to. It has everything you could want in a story. There is a lot of replayability from the two routes and extras. I loved it and really feel that you get your money's worth. Really glad I bought it and I would recommend this game to anyone. I think that the Noodletub Games developers have a great future ahead of them if they continually develop games of this quality.
I love this game so far! I'm not all the way through the story yet but I'm already in love with all the characters. I can already tell I'm going to have to play multiple times so I can try the other routes. If you like yuri then you'll love this game. The villains are completely swoon worthy. I went the Mona route for my first playthrough and I love the romance between her and Libretto, they are so sweet together.
