The Fortress of Dr. Radiaki - Fancy Edition

Roll up, roll up. Come see the freak! The Fortress Of Doctor Radiaki (Not Radikai) is one of the worst, most backwards and baffling games from the dos era of Doom Clones, and here it is in its polished turd quality. There's new QoL adjustments, such as widescreen support, a blocky crosshair, modern controls, but each with their own quirks such as the weird camera sensitivity which would be a big problem in other games. However, this all par for TFODR's quality. It's terrible, it's not pretending to be anything else, and this is the best way to play it. It's a jank museum piece that needs to be shown off as an example of what terrible game design is. Nothing more, nothing less.

They didn't need to do it, but they did it! This is not what I would call a "good" game, and when it comes to the original version, one could argue that it's almost impossible to even play. This new Fancy Edition offers some crucial fixes and options that make the game immensely more playable! This is a totally absurd game. Everything you've heard about it is true, but now it is better than ever, and it is DRM-free! This is what game preservation looks like!

the fortress of dr. radiaki is a trash game. perhaps the worst fps of all time. but this remaster is... good? i feel like they probably just remastered this game as a joke, then threw it on steam thinking "people will buy it as a joke, it's a game that civvie made a video on" but that doesn't change the fact that this remaster is great. it is definitely the best way to play a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game. this remaster completely overhauls the controls so that they work as you'd expect in a shooter, it adds a fancy launcher, and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ radial weapon wheel. it is a concerning amount of effort for a game that i've never heard any positive opinions on. the way it's structured also fascinates me. there's a launcher in godot that just launches you into dosbox, but the launcher is able to patch the game on the fly?? and some stuff from the launcher carries over into the dosbox executable like the borders?? bottom line is: this is a terrible game with a really solid remaster. should you buy it? if you can put up with extremely janky controls, motion sickness inducing graphics, and just straight up racism at times, i guess. but probably not. i'm still giving it a thumbs up because the remaster is good though.

Why this was even decided on being remastered can only be apart of the fact the game is satire. I did buy it curious to see how much better the game is and if the game could truly be improved. Truth is, not really. The improvements are nice and absolutely necessary if you want some sort of enjoyment out of this game, but even with everything I still can't stand this game. I love 90's FPS games more than any other kind of game, and I've played a ton of them, including a number of bad, even terrible ones. This remaster even though a huge improvement on the original, still fails to make this game enjoyable. It's insanely ugly, weapons don't feel good to use, level design is just absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ atrocious, also did I mention it's extremely ugly? I have lots of respect for the people deciding to remaster this for people who want to try the game out, but the game itself is still just an absolute eyesore and isn't really fun. I like owning 90's FPS games even if they are of questionable quality, but not this, this is actually one of the worst 90's FPS games there is, even remastered. You would be better off playing a Capstone game.

this was my first pc game ever, still as awful as i remember it. will try to finish it for closure after 30 years. overall visually quality is no different from the 30 year old version, either i m missing something or this is not the fancy edition.
